Chapter 607 The Enemy Is Anxious

Police cars and ambulances gathered in front of the block.

Residents heard it was a serious home invasion incident and crowded around anxiously to watch.

Peter was worried, so he had his men take the criminal back to the station first while he followed the ambulance to the hospital to settle Bart and Anna. He also called Evelyn.

In the ambulance, Anna, who had passed out from suffocation, wore an oxygen mask. The physiological purple-red color had now faded, revealing a heartbreaking pale white.

"Anna... please be okay."

Bart, beaten black and blue, didn't care about himself at all. He only worried about Anna's condition, holding her small hand tightly the whole time.

"Her vital signs are relatively stable for now, don't worry too much." Peter comforted him gently.

It was clear that Bart's deep concern for Anna wasn't just because she was a witness who could bring down Randy.

"Mr. Taylor, how did you suddenly come here?" Bart calmed his chaotic thoughts and asked in surprise.

"Evelyn felt that having Anna testify was a big deal. After all, she's still a minor, so we should notify her guardian. So she sent me over with some people to check on the mother and daughter's situation, and also to talk to Anna's mother. After all, Evelyn figured that in Anna's mother's eyes, the police would be much more credible than her."

Peter's expression became serious, thinking about how terrible the consequences would have been if he'd arrived a step later. "But we didn't expect to run into this kind of thing. It seems some people can't wait anymore."

Bart was shocked.

He was sent by Edward, and Peter was sent by Evelyn.

The two hadn't communicated privately, yet their thoughts and actions were surprisingly in sync!

"Oh, this is for you."

Bart reached his trembling, painful hand into his dirty suit pants pocket, pulled out the butterfly knife and handed it to Peter. "You forgot to take it."

Seeing that he was so badly injured yet still remembered his butterfly knife, Peter was moved. He took it and held it in his palm. "Look at my memory... Thank you, Bart, thank you so much."

"I remember Mrs. Wellington also has one."

"Yes, Evelyn and I have the same one. Landon gave them to us."

Peter's childhood memories were touched, and gentle smiles rippled in his eyes. "Landon was the knife master in all our hearts. His skills with knives, guns, and hidden weapons were actually even better than Ulysses's."

"When we were kids, other people's brothers would play games with their younger siblings, but Landon played with knives with Evelyn and me. All kinds of exquisitely crafted knives were his favorite things. He had over a thousand in his collection at home alone."

Bart's back went cold, and sweat broke out on his nose.

After Edward successfully married into the family in the future, he must constantly remind him: be very careful with words and actions.

"Landon discovered that both Evelyn and I had a talent for playing with knives, so he not only taught us everything he knew, but also gave each of us a butterfly knife."

Peter opened his palm, and looking at the beautiful, delicate knife, his smile deepened. "Evelyn is much better at it than I am. I usually just show it off, since my skill level is still pretty poor, and of course I can't bear to use it."

"But tonight the situation was urgent. If I fired a gun in a residential area, it would cause bigger trouble and chaos, so I could only use the knife. Fortunately, my skills haven't gotten too rusty."

Bart's mouth hung half open, his jaw frozen as if dislocated.

KnightSpear Hospital.

Evelyn and Edward got the news and rushed over, arranging everything.

Anna was rescued in time and passed the critical period, then transferred to a regular ward. Apart from facial injuries and a fractured left arm, Bart wasn't seriously hurt. He stayed in the room next to Anna's.

But he was in no mood to lie down. As soon as his bone was set, he went to check on Anna's condition.

The hospital was left to Evelyn and Edward, while Peter immediately returned to the police station to personally deal with that vicious criminal who tried to murder a witness!

At this moment, Paul came specially to examine Anna personally.

Edward's strong, powerful arm wrapped around Evelyn's waist, holding her gently as he softly comforted her:

"Evelyn, don't worry anymore. No matter what, Anna is okay, and that's the best outcome."

Evelyn stared at the unconscious Anna with bloodshot eyes, her chest filled with bitter guilt that stabbed her heart painfully. "Thank goodness... you thought to send Bart over today, and I thought to have Peter go talk to Anna's mother. But what if we'd been careless? What if... what if Bart and Peter had arrived a step later?"

Though it was hypothetical, the "what if" still left them shaken.

If that "what if" had really happened, the result would either be that they'd caused the death of an innocent girl, or that they'd forever lost a loyal comrade.

Either one would be enough to make them repent and suffer for life.

Seeing Evelyn's eyes fill with tears, Edward's throat tightened, his heart aching and softening. He pulled her into his arms.

He gently stroked her back, saying comforting words, not even knowing what he was saying, just wanting to make her feel less upset, less guilty.

Bart was even more at a loss. "Mrs. Wellington! Anna and I are both fine! Please, please don't cry! If you cry, I'll want to cry too!"

"I could have done better, I could have protected her well."

Evelyn suppressed her emotions, but a tear still rolled down her beautiful face. "But I gave the bad guys a chance. I'm as stupid as a pig!"

"I won't let you talk about yourself like that. You've actually done your best."

Edward smiled indulgently, his forehead pressed against her smooth forehead. "It's the enemy who's too shameless, with no bottom line at all. At least now we know our opponent is getting anxious."

Evelyn nodded, took a deep breath, and recovered somewhat, clearly agreeing with Edward's assessment.

After examining Anna, the doctor sighed sympathetically. "Ah, this poor girl. You can tell right away she's malnourished. She's at the age when she should be growing. How can her parents be so careless?"

Evelyn and Edward were too heartbroken to speak, and Bart's eyes immediately turned red.

"Look at the bruises on her neck. I'd say with a bit more force, it could have been broken completely! This was meant to kill!"

The doctor shook his head glumly and left.

Evelyn bit her teeth viciously, her whole body wrapped in furious flames. "Who else could strike Anna so viciously... besides the Alexander family?"
