Chapter 498 Be My Date
The previous second, Edward's gaze was as cold as ice when facing Jessica.
But the moment he saw Evelyn, his expression softened like melting snow, radiant as spring sunshine.
She had known Edward for many years, and even when she was a child, he treated her gently but indifferently.
It was clear how special, how much he cared, and how important Evelyn was to him!
Jessica was so angry that she almost ground her teeth to pieces, her eyes bloodshot as she watched Edward walk towards his goddess, his one true love.
Evelyn noticed Edward approaching.
Edward, with his striking presence, immediately drew everyone's attention as he walked over.
"Evelyn, Edward is coming for you," Landon whispered in her ear, his usually serious tone now tinged with teasing.
"Why bother with him? Just pretend you don't see him."
Evelyn pouted in defiance, though her heart was pounding wildly. "We agreed in private that we'd go our separate ways today and not cause any trouble. Why can't he just follow the plan?"
"He used to listen to everything I said, but now he's not! Liar!"
Evelyn cursed in frustration.
Landon's stern face broke into a smile.
At this moment, Charlie and Joyce, arm in arm, walked down the red carpet under the astonished gazes of the crowd.
Joyce's outfit for the horse race today was also secretly tailored by Evelyn to her measurements.
Joyce's dress was the same color as Evelyn's but more dignified, designed as a well-fitted suit dress. Her hat had an extra layer of dreamy gauze, half-concealing her delicate and gentle beauty, exuding an elegant charm like an orchid in a secluded valley.
"It's Charlie! No wonder he's a big shot. Even though he's older, look at that charisma and upright posture. From the back, he looks just over forty!"
"Thirty years ago, he must have been a stunningly handsome man, no less than Mr. Wellington! And his genes are incredibly strong; all the Taylor family children look like him!"
"Indeed!"
"Joyce is so beautiful!"
"It made sense that she outshone Tiffany back then."
"What a pity! You young people don't know how popular Joyce was back in the day! If it weren't for that incident that made her retire from the entertainment industry, Tiffany wouldn't have had a chance to shine!"
"Tiffany owes her current success to Joyce giving her that opportunity!"
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Joyce heard the discussions, her cheeks flushing red with embarrassment, and she clung tightly to Charlie's arm.
"With me here, what are you afraid of?"
Charlie glanced at her, his gentle and steady voice giving her immense courage. "Look, they're all praising you."
"Besides, you're my woman. Who dares to speak ill of you? They must not want to live well."
Joyce's nose tingled, and she couldn't help but look up at Charlie, her voice slightly choked, "I'm just afraid of embarrassing you, Landon, and Evelyn."
Charlie took a deep breath, his hand slowly moving down to hold her delicate hand tightly. "No, don't overthink it. If anything, it's you who has been wronged by being with me."
Joyce lowered her long lashes and just shook her head.
She knew she could never have all of Charlie's love, nor could she become his greatest love.
But since joining the Taylor family, she never felt wronged for a single day. She knew that if it weren't for following Charlie, she might not even be alive today.
She was too content, even feeling that she had received too much.
The appearance of the Taylor family once again stirred up the crowd.
And the scene of Edward walking towards Evelyn drew even more attention.
Charlie coldly stared at Edward, who was causing him trouble, feeling a surge of anger and wanting to slap him.
"Mr. Taylor, may I have the honor of entering with your daughter?"
Edward gazed deeply at Evelyn, his heart racing, his eyes full of sincerity. "I hope Ms. Taylor can be my date."
Evelyn pressed her rosy lips together, feeling extremely embarrassed, a rare occurrence for her.
"Mr. Wellington, there are plenty of girls who want to be your date, right? Does it have to be Evelyn?" Charlie's eyes were sharp, his tone cold, giving no face at all.
"Yes, it has to be Evelyn." Edward took a deep breath and extended his hand to Evelyn. "By my side, there can only be her, only for her."
The crowd gasped.
Jessica, standing far away, couldn't hear what Edward said.
But seeing the excited expressions of the reporters, she knew it wouldn't be something she wanted to hear!
Charlie looked at Evelyn with a grim expression.
Evelyn was never one to be ostentatious, and she was still angry with Edward, so she coolly said, "Mr. Wellington, I think you should..."
Before she could finish, Edward leaned in and boldly took her hand!
Evelyn's breath quickened, and the next second, he pulled her into his chest, his domineering and assertive stance as if declaring to the world: Evelyn of the Taylor family was his woman."Evelyn, let's go." Edward's eyes were filled with deep affection as he held her hand tightly.
Her face turned red, "Damn it! You're too domineering!"
"It's not domineering; it's creating opportunities for myself." Edward smiled, whispering in her ear, "You should have noticed by now, I'm very clingy."
The two strikingly handsome and perfectly matched young people left under the envious eyes of the crowd, even getting a close-up on the big screen at the entrance of the racetrack.
"Charlie, look at them, how well-matched they are," Joyce couldn't help but sigh.
"I don't see it!"
Charlie was furious, "Edward took my Evelyn right in front of me. Does he have any respect for me?"
"How can it be taking? They are mutually in love. Evelyn naturally wants to be led by him, to go with him."
Joyce advised earnestly, "Charlie, you've been through this. You should understand that no matter what, you can't stop two hearts that want to touch and embrace each other."
Charlie shook his head repeatedly, "If he truly loves Evelyn, he should plan a proper path for her, should let her cut her losses in time!"
"For the past ten years, I've spoiled her too much, causing her to suffer. From now on, I won't let that happen again!"
Joyce didn't dare to speak further, fearing it would seem like she didn't love Evelyn.
Evelyn held onto Edward's arm, playfully complaining, "You're too bold."
"If you don't take a chance, how can you get a wife?" Edward looked at her affectionately, his voice husky.
"Charlie hates three things the most: taking his woman, taking his daughter, and taking both his woman and daughter."
Edward fell silent.
