Chapter 232 He Has a Backup Plan!
When Tiffany heard that, she was totally clueless, almost passing out from sheer rage.
Now, the person she despised the most wasn't Evelyn, but Jessica, who had totally played Debra for a fool!
The crowd went wild, buzzing with chatter!
With solid proof now, it was clear as day that Debra wasn't a victim but the mastermind behind the fake jewelry scheme!
The reporters started typing like crazy, sending out updates.
[OMG! Evelyn from the Taylor family is actually the legendary designer Alexa!]
[She could've coasted on her looks but chose to flex her talent. How many more secrets does Evelyn from the Taylor family have?]
[Debra from the Wellington family gives fake jewelry to Ada?]
[Deep dive: When will Tiffany and Debra stop their shady moves?]
No one saw it coming, but in just six months, Debra was trending again, and this time, it was even more explosive than her last apology press conference!
Seeing things go off the rails, Tiffany wanted to dump the mess on Edward, so she snapped, "Edward! As the president of the Wellington Group and Debra's brother, are you just gonna stand there and let them attack Debra? Even though I'm not your real mom, Debra is still your sister. How can you side with outsiders and ignore us?"
"Side with outsiders? Who are the outsiders?" Edward's eyes went cold as he shot back.
"Who else? Obviously, the woman next to you!" Tiffany spat out.
Edward glanced coolly at Evelyn. "She doesn't count."
Evelyn frowned, looking up at Edward's sharp profile, thinking, 'Are you serious?'
Tiffany fumed, "You! You're just blinded by her looks!"
"Blinded by looks is better than blinded by greed." Edward's eyes flashed with a cold light as he pulled out his phone and called Bart. "Bring the person in."
Evelyn was confused, not getting what Edward was up to.
Just then, the door of the venue swung open again.
Everyone watched as Bart slowly pushed a wheelchair inside.
In the wheelchair sat someone wearing a baseball cap and a mask. You could tell it was a woman, but her features were hidden.
"Edward, what the heck are you doing?" Evelyn whispered, instinctively grabbing Edward's sleeve.
Edward's Adam's apple bobbed as he said, "Helping you get back what's yours."
'What's mine?' she thought.
Evelyn looked at the person in the wheelchair, blinking her pretty eyes.
At that moment, the woman in the wheelchair raised her trembling hand, slowly taking off her hat and mask.
It was Dorothy!
The crowd stared at her worn-out face, puzzled and exchanging looks.
Only Debra was so freaked out that she kept backing away, like she'd been struck by lightning, her face numb, and all the blood seemed to drain from her body!
Evelyn looked in shock at the very alive Dorothy, then at Edward, whose face was as calm as ever.
In a flash, she connected all the dots and got the whole picture!
Dorothy had been in the hospital after a car crash, but she wasn't brain-dead or be in a vegetative state.
Edward spread that rumor to make Debra think she was in the clear, to make her feel safe. Then, when she got all comfy, Edward would hit her where it hurt, making sure she couldn't bounce back!
Evelyn squinted, giving Edward a look that said a lot.
"Why does she look so familiar?" someone asked.
"Oh! I remember! Isn't she the side chick of the A-Headline president? The one who got busted on live stream!"
"She's still kicking? If it were me, I'd have dug a hole and hid. How does she still have the guts to show her face?"
"What's she doing here?"
Dorothy's hands shook as she clenched them, taking a deep breath and saying, "Everyone, I'm here to spill the beans and make up for my mistakes. I want to apologize to Ms. Taylor of KS WORLD."
"My name is Dorothy, and I'm a reporter for A-Headline. I got greedy and broke all the rules. I bribed someone close to Ms. Taylor to steal the design plans for Ada's wedding and sold them to other media for exposure, causing Ms. Taylor to breach her contract and ultimately cancel her collaboration with Ada."
Everyone was floored, not expecting the story behind Evelyn and Ada's contract fallout to be so messy!
People started looking at Evelyn with sympathy and understanding.
With her being revealed as Alexa, everyone thought Evelyn was as pure and holy as an angel.
"Dorothy! So you were bribed?"
"Who bribed you?"
"Why did you suddenly have a car accident? Was it because the person who hired you was scared you'd rat them out and wanted to get rid of you?"
Reporters swarmed around Dorothy, quickly surrounding her.
Dorothy closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them again, raising her hand without hesitation to point directly at Debra as she shouted, "It was Miss Wellington who told me to do it!"
Debra's ears rang, and she felt like she couldn't see or hear anything.
Five days ago. Night. Hospital.
In the quiet hospital room, Dorothy leaned against the headboard, clutching the sheets tightly, looking down at Edward, who sat in front of her with an overwhelming presence, cold sweat soaking through her hospital gown.
Edward's sharp features were expressionless as he sat in the chair.
Bart stood by his side, glaring at her.
"Edward, thank you for saving me," Dorothy said, trembling.
"Do you know why I saved you?" Edward asked coldly, playing with a silver lighter.
Dorothy didn't dare to respond.
"Because you still have some use to me." Edward closed the lighter, his long lashes lowered. "With one word, I can make your body recover, or I can make you a cripple for life. I can even make you disappear from this world without a trace."
"Edward! Please, just tell me what to do!" Dorothy was so scared she went limp. "As long as I can help you, I will do my utmost!"
Edward held an unlit cigarette between his fingers, his dark eyes narrowing slightly, and said, "Identify Debra's crime and clear Evelyn's name."
