Chapter 322 Edward Gets Injured for Her Again!
The reporters snickered.
Schadenfreude, malice, mockery, disdain, and hatred—these sharp, piercing gazes scrutinized Joyce, enveloping her in overwhelming pain.
"Mom, don't be afraid, I'll protect you!"
Jennifer tightly embraced Joyce, shielding her from those sinister stares one by one!
Jennifer was usually cautious and timid, but her eyes were now resolute and strong, without a trace of fear. "I will never let anyone hurt you, never!"
"Jennifer, I'm fine, I'm fine." Joyce shook her head dazedly, her once clear eyes now muddled and confused.
Jennifer saw this and couldn't help but cry, her tears falling onto Joyce's hair.
"What did you say? Say it again!" Susan pointed directly at the male reporter's face, her face flushed with anger, on the verge of losing her temper!
"Susan, this has nothing to do with you. Why are you so angry?" another reporter mocked.
Donna's eyebrows furrowed, instantly seeing through it.
These reporters must have been sent to stir up trouble!
"Why shouldn't I be angry? Joyce is my family. Insulting her is the same as insulting me!" Susan was so furious she wanted to break the reporter's ribs one by one!
"Family? In front of the media, you all seem like a loving family, but who knows what happens off-camera."
"Susan, let's go. Don't stoop to their level." Donna turned and pulled Susan towards the nanny van.
The middle-aged reporter who started the trouble sneered, "Indeed, after all, Joyce once left the entertainment industry due to drug-related aftereffects. She must still feel ashamed to face people, right?"
Before the male reporter could finish, he suddenly felt a blur before his eyes!
Everyone was shocked.
No one saw where Evelyn came from; she parted the crowd and stood directly in front of her family!
The male reporter was stunned by Evelyn's beautiful face!
"You, you were the one who insulted Joyce."
"You, you were the one who insulted Joyce." Evelyn said coldly, grabbed the male reporter's collar with her left hand, and raised her right hand high!
In front of all the media reporters, she hit the male reporter hard!
Everyone was dumbfounded, including the Taylor family!
Jennifer was completely frozen, her admiration for Evelyn reaching its peak!
"Evelyn!" Susan clapped excitedly for her, wanting to rush up and help Evelyn.
Donna held her back.
"You, you dare to hit me? You dare to hit me in public?" The male reporter clutched his stinging face, staring at Evelyn in horror.
"Just hitting you isn't enough. I'm going to sue you, take legal action against you, and make you pay for your despicable behavior."
Evelyn showed no fear and said in a cold tone, "You spread rumors and slander. You fabricate stories without knowing the truth, defaming my relative's character and reputation.
"Don't think that just because you're a reporter, you can say whatever you want. Those you've hurt before didn't want to waste public resources or make a big deal out of it, and you thought you were invincible?"
"Sorry, tonight I'm going to clear the water in your head and show everyone with malicious intent the consequences of speaking evil and distorting the truth!"
Everyone was intimidated by Evelyn's powerful presence!
He retorted, "I distort the truth?"
The male reporter laughed angrily, "We know what happened back then, even if the younger reporters don't. The internet wasn't as developed then, but we remember!"
"You remember, but do you have evidence?" Evelyn's tone was steady, looking at him coldly.
The male reporter's confidence wavered, his righteous expression softening.
Evelyn continued, "What's wrong? You were so sharp-tongued when asking questions earlier. What happened now? Cat got your tongue?"
Evelyn glanced at his press card, "Alright, adults should be responsible for their words and actions. The KnightSpear Group's legal department will be waiting for you."
The male reporter trembled with fear!
After speaking, she turned and led her family towards the nanny van.
"Evelyn, you really don't need to do this for me, really," Joyce tugged at Evelyn's sleeve, her eyes red like a wronged little girl, her face pale and pitiful.
Evelyn said, "What are you saying, Joyce?"
Evelyn gazed at her gently, her eyes giving her firm reassurance, "If a dog comes to bite you, as your family, I have to help you fight it off.
Aunt Donna and Aunt Susan can't fight, but I'm young, not afraid of trouble, and have no worries."
At that moment, a commotion erupted in the crowd!
"Joyce! How dare you show your face? Go to hell!"
With a hoarse shout, a man wearing a black mask and a baseball cap suddenly rushed out of the crowd, shocking everyone!
In the chaos, he wielded an iron rod, leaping up and swinging it directly at Joyce's head!
"Watch out!" Jennifer screamed, her heart stopping in fear!
Although the bodyguards were well-trained, the assailant's swift and targeted attack caught them off guard!
But Evelyn reacted immediately, turning and tightly embracing Joyce to shield her.
Donna and Susan both screamed, "Evelyn!"
Evelyn's heart pounded, her eyes shut tight, bracing for the impending disaster!
The pain didn't come.
Instead, she heard Edward's familiar heavy breathing in her ear, making her heart tighten with intense shock!
It was Edward!
Evelyn slowly turned her eyes, tears welling up in her reddened eyes.
Edward's broad and tall figure shielded her, his breathing growing labored and heavy.
"Evelyn, are you okay?"
"Are you stupid? I should be asking you that!" Evelyn yelled at him, with tears in her eyes.
Edward's head throbbed with pain, his vision blurring, but he still smiled gently at her, "If you're worried about me, then I..."
Suddenly, his mind went blank, and everything went dark.
Evelyn's heart trembled as she opened her arms to catch his staggering body, hoarsely calling his name, "Edward!"
The assailant who attempted to harm Joyce was immediately subdued by the Taylor family and was taken to the police station by Peter.
Before the assailant was put into the police car, Evelyn, with bloodshot eyes, rushed over to attack him!
Peter quickly held her back to calm her down, "Evelyn! Leave it to me, let me handle this scum! It's not worth dirtying your hands over this filth!"
Evelyn shouted, "I want to kill him, I want to kill him!"
Evelyn's beautiful eyes were filled with tears as she struggled hysterically in Peter's arms, still wanting to attack the assailant.
Landon and Simon arrived, both shocked by the scene.
In their impression, Evelyn, though fiery, was generally a calm person. They had never seen her lose control like this!
The assailant was handcuffed and put into the police car.
Before the car drove off, he even stuck his head out and gave Evelyn a sinister, mocking smile!
"Peter! Make sure he doesn't get off easy, make sure!" Evelyn's heart was filled with pain and anger, her eyes burning with hatred.
"Don't worry, Evelyn." Peter nodded firmly and got into the police car.
Evelyn stood trembling in the cold wind, her fists clenched tightly.
Landon said, "Evelyn."
Landon walked over and put his arm around Evelyn's shoulders, pulling her into his embrace. "Edward has been taken by ambulance to the nearest Taylor family hospital. Dad heard about it and rushed over, and he would arrange for the best doctors to treat him. He will be fine."
"Yes, Evelyn." Simon also came to comfort her, "He was in the military, he's tough. It's just a hit; he can probably take it."
"Take it?" Evelyn's heart ached, and she almost ground her teeth to dust. "That was an iron rod! No matter how strong he is, he's still flesh and blood. It's a miracle he's not dead on the spot, and you think he can take it?"
Simon's pupils contracted, realizing it was no time for jokes, and he felt a pang of guilt.
Simon said, "The doctors at KnightSpear Hospital, I know them all. Who's better than me?"
Evelyn took a deep breath and broke free from Landon's embrace. "I'm going to the hospital now. If anything happens to Edward, I'll take that man's life!"
Watching Evelyn's determined figure leave, Landon and Simon sighed.
"Landon, did I say something wrong just now?" Simon asked nervously.
"Yes. Edward saved Evelyn, and he's in critical condition now. You shouldn't joke about it." Landon replied seriously.
Simon replied, "My bad, my bad. I know Edward saved Evelyn, and if it weren't for him, it would be Evelyn in the hospital. But my mouth is faster than my brain, I meant no harm."
The more Simon thought about it, the more regretful he felt, almost to the point of tears. "You have to help me; I'm really scared Evelyn will be mad at me!"
Landon continued, "She won't be mad at us."
Landon's eyes turned serious as he patted Simon's shoulder. "But in the future, be careful with your words when you mention Edward in front of Evelyn."
Simon realized something, feeling a mix of emotions, and nodded.
Meanwhile, on the second floor of the KS WORLD hotel.
Gilbert stood by the railing, overlooking the anxious figures of Charlie and Byron below, his eyes behind the glasses filled with a cold, dark gloom.
"Mr. Alexander."
Curtis quickly walked up behind him, leaning in to whisper, "I found out that Ms. Taylor was almost attacked by an assailant in the parking lot while protecting Joyce. Edward suddenly appeared and took the blow to the head."
Gilbert frowned.
"Taking it to the head, my God, he dared," Curtis said in surprise.
"Say what you need to say, and shut up about the rest!" Gilbert coldly glared at him.
Curtis quickly clamped his mouth shut.
"What happened next? Did he die on the spot?" Gilbert asked in a grim voice.
Curtis said, "No, but he fell into a deep coma, severely injured and bleeding."
Gilbert asked, "And Ms. Taylor?"
Curtis nervously swallowed, "Ms. Taylor went to the hospital with him."
Gilbert said, "Good, very good."
Gilbert suddenly let out a cold laugh, his eyes turning red.
"I like it when someone plays hardball with me, Edward. For Evelyn, you're willing to go all out, using self-inflicted injuries to gain her sympathy, huh?
"Enjoy your moment of triumph, because soon, I'll make all your efforts go to waste. As long as I'm alive, you'll never win Evelyn's heart back!"
Edward was rushed into the emergency room at KnightSpear Hospital.
Charlie and Landon personally supported Byron and hurried to the hospital with their entourage.
Byron shouted, "Edward! Edward! My grandson!"
Byron was worried about Edward and stumbled along the way. If he hadn't been supported, he wouldn't have been able to take a single step.
"Byron, don't worry! This hospital has the best doctors and the most advanced medical equipment under the Taylor family."
"I've already instructed Landon to notify them to conduct a specialist consultation for Edward. They will come up with a foolproof solution, and Edward will be fine!" Charlie was also anxious but tried his best to comfort Byron.
Byron said, "How did it come to this?"
Byron sat heavily on a chair, tears welling up in his eyes. "Edward, you must hold on!"
Evelyn said, "Grandpa."
Hearing the call, everyone turned around.
Evelyn, looking travel-worn, slowly walked up to Byron, kneeling on one knee before him.
"Lily." Byron was taken aback by her pale face and red eyes.
Evelyn replied, "Grandpa, I'm sorry."
Evelyn's throat felt like it was being squeezed by a giant hand. After a long pause, she finally spoke softly, filled with guilt, "Edward ended up like this because of me."
