Chapter 47 They Were All Lifesavers
As night fell, Edward's mood became extremely depressed, so he unprecedentedly went to Alahle Club to have a drink with Eric. Alahle Club was Eric's establishment.
Eric willingly drove to pick him up since Edward had rarely taken the initiative to seek him out.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm your mistress outside," Eric muttered into Edward's ear. In front of others, he was a fearless playboy, but in front of Edward, he was a talkative gossip.
"I've never been this submissive in front of a woman, but in front of you, I'm like a lonely mistress. As long as you call me, I will dress up without hesitation to accompany you. Look, I treat you so well! Just talking about it makes me want to cry!"
"Have you ever acted subservient in front of women?" Edward glanced at him coldly and said, "I've seen you act pretty subservient in front of Lily."
"That only happened once in my life! It was mainly because my ex-wife was too outstanding, and I couldn't help myself," he explained.
Edward frowned, his thin lips twitching, restraining the urge to scold him.
At that moment, two sexy women walked past them. One of them even winked at Eric.
"They're so sexy," Eric squinted his eyes and licked his upper teeth.
"Boring. Not as attractive as her."
"Who? Your ex-wife?!" Eric's eyes bulged in surprise as if he had discovered a new continent. "Edward! Did you sleep with her behind my back? Didn't you say you and Ms. Brown had a marriage of convenience? Men always lie!"
As expected... with a beauty like Lily by your side for so long, and you're not impotent, you definitely couldn't resist," Edward suddenly startled himself with his unintended words. He clenched the whisky glass with his thumb and forefinger as if he had really seen Lily's body, really intimately entangled with her. Even his fingertips could feel her tender and smooth skin...
"I didn't touch her, don't overthink it," Edward said, his cheeks inexplicably flushed, his Adam's apple rolled up and down, and he hastily took a sip of his drink.
Damn, how could he harbor such inappropriate thoughts about Lily?!
Taking advantage of his tipsiness, Eric asked, "Edward, can I ask you something? I've been curious about it for a while."
"Mm?"
"Why did you have to choose Nicole? Why?" Eric wrapped his arm around Edward's neck and defended Lily, "You saw it today as well. Those women would devour Ms. Brown alive! If it weren't for Molly's timely appearance to testify for Ms. Brown, she wouldn't be able to explain herself even if she grew a mouth all over her body. She's been so wronged!"
Edward was slightly taken aback, his gaze hazy as he fell into a memory.
"Back then, my mother suffered from depression, and she couldn't bear Patrick's cold treatment and the rumors from others anymore, so she jumped off a building and committed suicide. During those dark days, I was immersed in grief and even attempted suicide to follow my mother out of this world. I tried."
As he spoke, Edward took off his steel watch strap, revealing a long and terrifying scar.
He had hidden these things for twenty years, and Eric was the first person to whom he opened up about his feelings.
Eric took in a sharp breath, a pang in his heart.
"Nicole discovered me in time and saved me. Since then, she has become my only friend. She would personally make pastries for me to eat, invite me to her home as a guest, and give me the toys she had collected.
Back then, she was sent by God to redeem me, my hope to survive.
I promised her that I would marry her, so no matter what, I have to keep that promise."
She had already divorced you. Would she still care about what you think? She didn't care about what you think, so how could she possibly care about how those troublemakers in your family see her? She's completely disappointed in you!
"Mr. Ex-husband, you're speaking too harshly and hurtfully. If I were Ms. Brown, I would definitely find someone to put you in a burlap sack and beat you up."
Eric waved goodbye to him and got into the luxury car.
Edward clenched his fists as if he were choking himself, his breath stifled.
