Chapter 168 Because of Her, He Couldn't Sleep

Evelyn stared at him, shocked. "Why are you here?"

William, standing behind, felt his heart sink at the sight of Gilbert and clenched his fists.

"People told me only Ms. Taylor uses this elevator, so I waited here," Gilbert said with a gentle smile.

"That's not what I meant. Why are you looking for me?" Evelyn frowned.

"Isn't Elbert coming to your place in Hameen tonight? Aren't you heading back?"

Gilbert smiled calmly. "I came to pick you up so we can go together."

Evelyn pursed her lips, feeling suspicious. It sounded reasonable, but not entirely.

"Thanks for coming, but Landon and I planned to go home together. He should be here soon," Evelyn said politely. "See you tonight at Oasis Villa."

"I already told Landon I’d pick you up. He agreed, so he won't be coming," Gilbert replied calmly.

"What?" Evelyn's eyes widened in shock.

"Our families have been friends for generations, and we grew up together. Landon shouldn't worry I'll take you away," Gilbert said meaningfully. Though he thought, 'I really want to take her back, pamper, protect, and love her forever.'

"Alright then, thanks for the trouble," Evelyn said, keeping a polite distance.

She thought, 'Landon, usually so attentive, dared to push me to another man! Is he trying to market me like Charlie? What if Gilbert's a wolf in sheep's clothing?'

Evelyn sighed silently, thinking, 'I’m too pessimistic. Gilbert is my savior, after all.'

"It's no trouble. I always have time for you," Gilbert said warmly.

Evelyn, used to Gilbert's flirtatious ways, walked alongside him without overthinking.

"Evelyn!" William called out, his heart aching.

Both Evelyn and Gilbert stopped.

Evelyn looked back, puzzled. "What's wrong, William?"

Gilbert adjusted his glasses, his dark eyes narrowing as he glanced at William.

William felt a sharp pain from Gilbert's hidden fierce gaze. He hesitated, "Evelyn, I..."

"Oh, right, William, I almost forgot," Evelyn smiled warmly. "You can get off work early. You've been exhausted lately, so go home and rest tonight."

Evelyn left with Gilbert, leaving William with slumped shoulders, recalling Gilbert's chilling gaze and feeling a cold shiver.

Evelyn and Gilbert walked through the lobby, quickly attracting the staff's attention.

Outside, Gilbert's private driver waited. Curtis respectfully opened the car door. As Evelyn was about to get in, Gilbert gently grabbed her arm. "Evelyn."

"What's wrong, Gilbert?" Evelyn looked surprised.

Gilbert's eyes were filled with affection as he took out a handkerchief to wipe the lipstick smudge from her lips. But Evelyn quickly took the handkerchief from him. "I can do it myself."

Gilbert's eyes flickered, but he just smiled, saying nothing.

The Bentley drove away from KS WORLD.

Across the street, the tinted window of a black Lamborghini rolled down, revealing Edward's sharply defined face. His lips were tightly pressed, his cold eyes slightly red, staring at the receding Bentley.

Thinking of Evelyn and Gilbert together, Edward's heart ached, a chilling coldness surging through his veins.

He hadn't slept for two days and nights, and even sleeping pills didn't work.

Since that concert, Edward had been distracted. Usually laser-focused at work, he even spaced out during meetings.

He didn't know why he felt this way, but he knew it was because of Evelyn, causing his insomnia.

So today, without Bart, he drove alone to KS WORLD, waiting from the afternoon until now.

He couldn't deny he wanted to see Evelyn, just to get a full night's sleep.

But seeing her with Gilbert made his head feel like it was being jolted, causing intense pain and blurring his vision.

Whether his insomnia was cured, he didn't know. But this scene was enough to almost give him a heart attack!

Edward's bloodshot eyes darkened, and he gritted his teeth, flooring the gas pedal.

The black Lamborghini shot out like an arrow, speeding after the Bentley.

Tonight, Oasis Villa was bustling, with servants busy preparing for guests.

Responding to Charlie's call, all the kids who could make it had returned. Landon, Simon, and Peter were at Oasis Villa, while Evelyn was on her way back.

Jennifer had important classes she couldn't miss, and since it wasn't a significant gathering, Joyce told her to prioritize her studies.

Simon sat in the living room with a coffee cup, looking at Landon on his left and Peter on his right, shaking his head. "Why is it just you two? Why is it so hard to see our younger sisters?"

"Simon, be content. We just cracked a big case, and the chief gave us two days off. Otherwise, you wouldn't see me for a long time," Peter said, wearing a leather jacket, lying comfortably on the sofa with his legs crossed. Having been in the police force for a long time, he no longer showed any signs of being a wealthy young man.

As the youngest son of the Taylor family, Peter resembled Charlie the most, with bright, star-like eyes.

Suddenly, there was a noise.

Landon and Simon were both startled, not understanding what was happening.

Peter, lying on the sofa, remained calm but suddenly raised his arm and caught a walnut that had flown from somewhere.

"Donna, you really love me, knowing I like walnuts and picking the biggest ones for me."

Peter sat up smoothly, placed the walnut on the table, and cracked it open with one hand, smiling as he ate it.

"Look at you, without the Taylor family demeanor! Did you become a cop or go undercover in the mafia for ten years?!" Donna, hands on her hips, walked up to Peter with a look of exasperation.

"Isn't it the same thing?" Peter grinned, showing his white teeth, and reached out to Donna while chewing the walnut. "Donna, I haven't had enough. Do you have more?"

"What are you wearing? Go upstairs and change into something decent!" Donna, usually refined and educated, couldn't hold back and kicked Peter. "I don't care how you dress at the police station, but here you need to dress appropriately! Elbert and the others will be here soon; don't embarrass Charlie!"

In the study, Charlie sat on a vintage leather sofa, wearing reading glasses on his prominent nose, looking at photos in his hand.

The people in the photos were Evelyn and Gilbert.

"As you instructed, I've been keeping an eye on Evelyn's dating situation," Hubert reported respectfully. "She hasn't contacted anyone else on the list, but she's closely involved with Gilbert from the Alexander family."

Charlie repeatedly flipped through the photos, almost wearing them out, and asked in a deep voice, "Gilbert hasn't done anything inappropriate to Evelyn, has he? No out-of-line behavior?"

"No, Gilbert is very respectful and gentlemanly when interacting with Evelyn."

"Good." Charlie pondered, saying nothing more.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door as Joyce's gentle voice came from outside.

"Charlie, Mr. Elbert Alexander and Randy are here."
