Chapter 143 The Last Blind Date
Charlie quickly set up the blind dates.
Evelyn was in the bathroom doing her makeup while William stood outside with an iPad, listing her schedule.
"11:30 AM, lunch with Steven Hall from Hall Group; 1:30 PM, coffee with Christopher Stewart from Stewart Group; 3:30 PM, a private musical show with Larry Russell from Russell Group."
The bathroom door opened, and Evelyn stepped out, looking ridiculous. William burst out laughing. "Evelyn, you're too hard on yourself!"
She wore a wild wig, fake freckles, a smudge under her nose like a mustache, and was picking her nose.
"This is it? I was thinking of adding some scars," Evelyn grinned, showing her blackened teeth.
William, usually serious, couldn't stop laughing.
'When it comes to being quirky, Evelyn wins.'
Evelyn took a selfie and sent it to her brothers' group chat.
Landon: [Who is this?]
Evelyn: [Guess~]
Ulysses: [Hahaha!]
Simon: [You almost gave me a heart attack this morning!]
Aaron: [Maybe rethink your role?]
Evelyn: [What are my chances on a blind date looking like this?]
Simon: [None!]
Landon: [Anyone who knows you will love your personality.]
Aaron: [With your personality and talent, they'll still fall for you.]
Ulysses: [I'm more into legs, and yours are great.]
Ulysses: [Simon, as a public servant, you should know better than to judge by looks.]
Simon: [Shut up!]
Evelyn laughed at the chat.
Evelyn: [Wish me luck, I'm off to my first blind date.]
Landon: [May Jesus bless you and your date.]
Simon: [If someone likes you with that hair, consider them. There's an 80% chance they truly love you.]
Simon: [It means they value inner qualities!]
Evelyn: [If someone likes me, I'll give them a free eye check-up at KnightSpear Hospital!]
Meanwhile, William's phone buzzed. He saw messages from all four brothers.
Brothers: [Keep an eye on Evelyn, let us know if there's any problem.]
William: [Don't worry, I'll protect her.]
Brothers: [We're worried about the guys she's meeting!]
William thought, 'They are definitely her real brothers!'
The blind date game began.
Evelyn, wanting to get it over with, was surprised. Despite her ghastly look, these wealthy guys stayed calm and chatted.
'Is my charm that strong, or are they just desperate to be Charlie's son-in-law? I can't stand looking at myself, yet they eat like nothing's wrong.' she thought.
Luckily, Evelyn had a backup plan.
During lunch with Steven, Evelyn casually mentioned he looked like he had low sperm vitality and might struggle to have kids. Steven stormed off, ending the date abruptly.
With Christopher, Evelyn kept staring behind him, making him uneasy.
"Ms. Taylor, what are you looking at?" Christopher asked.
"There's a little boy behind you, staring at you. Aren't you going to invite him to join us?" Evelyn said eerily. "He looks so pitiful."
Christopher bolted before finishing his coffee.
With Larry, they watched a musical, so there wasn't much interaction. As the date ended, Larry politely asked, "Ms. Taylor, may I invite you to dinner?"
"Sure, I'd love to," Evelyn smiled, slinging her canvas bag over her shoulder.
Larry noticed the bold letters on her bag—Hameen Mental Health Center Souvenir.
"Larry, why aren't you leaving?" Evelyn asked, blinking innocently.
Larry, frightened, stepped back, "I just remembered I have a meeting. Let's reschedule!"
Evelyn and William arrived at the last date venue, a vintage coffee shop with a serene ambiance and the aroma of coffee.
'This place has the style of Oasis Villa. Maybe I'll go easy on this guy.' she thought.
Evelyn had been messing with her dates all day, and William watched nervously.
"Evelyn, you've definitely dashed their hopes. But what if they badmouth you? It might affect your reputation in Mugden," William worried.
"The more it spreads, the better. I want everyone to think Evelyn from the Taylor family is crazy," Evelyn said calmly, adding more freckles with an eyeliner pencil. "This way, Charlie will stop setting me up."
William didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"Charlie is cunning. Who knows what he'll try next," Evelyn said.
"Charlie loves you the most. When you weren't home, he often said your personality and temper are most like his," William smiled.
"Ah, Charlie is insulting me, can't you tell?" Evelyn replied.
William laughed, then his phone vibrated. "Evelyn, the last guest has arrived."
"Got it."
William left to hide in the adjacent room.
Bored, Evelyn rested her chin on her hand, gazing at the serene view outside, enjoying the scent of flowers and birdsong.
The door to the private room opened.
The sound of steady leather shoes approached, and she caught a faint, rich fragrance, like a soft midnight breeze.
It was a blend of violet leaves and delicate floral notes, a rare scent on a man.
Evelyn, sensitive to fragrances, slightly opened her eyes, her gaze moving up to Gilbert's face.
Her lips parted slightly, pupils contracting.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Ms. Taylor."
