Chapter 329 Dating with Marriage as the Premise

"Caleb! Why did you suddenly think of calling me?"

Patrick's face lit up instantly, his tone so warm and friendly that it was a stark contrast to his usual aloof and dignified demeanor.

Edward's long eyelashes fluttered slightly.

In his memory, Patrick had never had such a fatherly conversation with him.

It was only when facing Caleb that he truly seemed like a loving father. Indeed, in his heart, only Tiffany was his beloved, and only Caleb was his son.

It was really ironic, but he had nothing to say.

"Dad, how have you been lately?" Caleb's deep, magnetic voice came through.

"I'm doing well, how about you? How's your recovery in Mythorica? Is everything going smoothly? Any recent relapses?" Patrick had flown to Mythorica to visit Caleb once last year, but this year he was too busy and couldn't find the time.

Caleb replied, "I'm fine, don't worry about me."

Caleb paused, then asked with concern, "I heard that Edward was injured and hospitalized. How is he? Is it serious?"

Edward's brows furrowed slightly.

It wasn't that he resisted Caleb's concern, but he hadn't expected that, after more than a decade away from Mugden, Caleb, in a foreign country, would still know about his recent situation.

Patrick said, "Edward just had a major surgery and was in a coma for a few days, but he's awake now."

Caleb asked, "Are you at the hospital with Edward?"

Patrick replied, "Yes, your grandfather and I are in the ward."

Caleb said, "Please hand the phone to Edward, I want to talk to him."

Patrick agreed, walked over, and handed the phone to Edward. "Caleb wants to talk to you."

Edward hesitated before taking the phone and bringing it to his ear. "Caleb."

"Edward, I heard you were seriously injured. I was very worried and even wanted to fly back to see you, but..." Caleb's tone was full of concern.

Edward replied, "Caleb, I'm fine. Your health isn't suitable for long flights, you don't need to go through all that trouble for me."

Edward smiled slightly and comforted him, "I'm already better, there's no problem now, don't worry."

Caleb asked, "Your surgery was done by Evelyn from the Taylor family, right?"

Edward was secretly surprised. "Yes."

"I know, Ms. Taylor is your ex-wife. You two divorced this year, but I didn't expect her to put aside past grievances and be willing to perform surgery on you. Ms. Taylor is truly magnanimous and kind-hearted. Even though you can't be husband and wife anymore, Ms. Taylor has such noble character and is so kind, you should still maintain a friendly relationship with her." Caleb's voice carried a hint of regret.

Edward's thin lips pressed tightly together.

Caleb was in Mythorica, but he knew everything happening around him.

"Caleb, the fact that Evelyn and I ended up like this is all my fault. I was blind, I brought this upon myself, I owe her too much."

Edward clenched his fist, his eyes reddening with determination. "But I've made up my mind to pursue Evelyn again. I'll spend my whole life trying to win her back. My wife, in the past, was Evelyn, and in the future, it can only be Evelyn."

Patrick was deeply shocked!

"Well said! Well said!" Byron was extremely excited, slapping Edward on the shoulder so hard he almost made him vomit.

The other end of the phone was silent for a moment, then a light laugh came through. He encouraged him, "Good, it's great that you have such thoughts. I wish you success."

"Thank you," Edward responded softly.

Byron took the phone, laughing heartily and warmly, "Caleb! How's life abroad? I heard the golden beaches there are beautiful. When will you take me there for a vacation and some sunbathing?"

Caleb replied, "Grandpa, no matter how good it is abroad, it's not as good as home."

Caleb laughed gently, "You're getting older, and the journey to Mythorica is long. I can't bear to see you go through that. Maybe, it won't be long before my health improves, and we can meet in Mugden?"

Edward remained expressionless, but his heart tightened inexplicably.

"Great! If you can come back, that would be even better. Our family would be reunited!"

Byron sighed with concern, "But don't push yourself too hard. I know your health condition. Even if you don't come back, I won't blame you. I can always visit you often. It's only a few hours, and we have a private jet, it won't be tiring."

They chatted a bit more before hanging up.

"Dad, did Caleb just say he's coming back? Is it true?" Patrick's eyes lit up. He asked urgently.

Byron's eyes flickered, but before he could answer, Tyler knocked and walked in.

"Mr. Byron Wellington, Mr. Patrick Wellington, Ms. Taylor, Mr. Clark, and Ms. Molly Taylor are here."

"Who? Molly is here too?" Patrick was surprised as Evelyn and Eric walked in.

Eric was actually holding Molly's hand!

Molly shyly hid behind Eric, her face blushing.

Evelyn had watched them walk all the way here, feeling a bit angry but unable to say anything.

Patrick asked, "Eric, what's this?"

Patrick stared at their tightly clasped hands and felt shocked.

Eric took a deep breath, raised his intertwined hand with Molly, and firmly declared what he had rehearsed all night, "Uncle Patrick! Molly and I are in love."

"Eric, stop it, it's so embarrassing." Molly couldn't take it anymore, squeezing his hand, her face very red.

"So I ask you to entrust Molly to me! Although I wasn't a good person before, I will strive to be a good man from now on, a man only for Molly! I will treat her well, better than Edward treated Ms. Taylor, I swear on my life! I will give her happiness that all women in the world will envy! I love Molly, please allow me to date her with the intention of marriage!" Eric was so nervous that he squeezed Molly's hand until it turned red, his voice trembling.

Eric said all this in one breath, his expression stiff, his speech rapid, but his eyes were incredibly sincere.

It was clear he had been holding this in for a long time.

Patrick said, "Eric, it's not that I doubt you, it's just..."

Patrick looked at him seriously, "As a father, I naturally hope my daughters can build happy families. But there are some things I have to say upfront, I don't mean anything by it..."

Eric replied, "I know what you're going to say."

Eric suddenly became serious, more than ever before, "You don't need to say it, I already know, I know everything about Molly. We have been honest with each other, and she is the one I want, there will be no one else."

Eric's sudden confession brought quite a shock to Patrick, and now wasn't the time to discuss this, so he could only remain silent for now.

"Edward!" Molly obediently shuffled to the bedside, blinking her clear eyes with worry, "Eric said you hurt your head, how is it? Does it still hurt?"

Edward gently stroked Molly's cheek and spoke softly, "It doesn't hurt, Evelyn saved me. She took very good care of me."

"That's good." Molly suddenly grabbed Evelyn's hand, gently shaking it, and asked eagerly, "Evelyn, can you stay with Edward all the time? Can you take care of him until he is discharged? With you by his side, he will definitely be very happy and recover quickly."

Evelyn's heart trembled, her lips pressed together.

Edward looked at her with great anticipation, his eyes moist, like a lonely stray dog.

Evelyn said, "He was injured because of me, so I naturally have to take full responsibility."

Evelyn smiled gently, like a soft drizzle, "I will take care of him until he is fully recovered."

"That's great!" Molly clapped her hands happily.

Edward's anxious heart slowly settled.

"Evelyn, thank you." He thanked her softly and felt a lump in his throat.

Evelyn appeared indifferent, but her heart was slightly moved.

The Wellington Group had an important meeting, so Patrick left first.

Since Evelyn's identity as the "White God" was revealed, she naturally became Edward's attending physician. Now, the heavy responsibility of Edward's follow-up treatment fell on her shoulders.

After asking Edward some questions, she put him in a wheelchair and had Eric and Paul personally take him for an examination.

Only Evelyn, Grandpa, and Tyler were left in the ward.

"Lily, you've been looking quite serious, is there something on your mind?" Byron took the opportunity to ask with concern.

Evelyn was startled, her words evasive, "No, nothing, Grandpa."

"Lily, you can fool others, but you can't fool me."

Byron was worried, his heart in turmoil, "Is it that there's a problem with Edward's injury?"

Evelyn replied, "Grandpa."

Byron continued, "Don't hide it from me, you know my temperament, tell me the truth. If you don't tell me the truth, I won't be able to handle it!"

Evelyn was deeply conflicted and hesitated. She then looked at Tyler and said, "Tyler, could you step outside for a moment?"

Tyler understood and exited, closing the door behind him.

"Lily, are you saying Edward has post-traumatic sequelae?" Byron asked, his voice trembling, his heart clenched.

"Yes, it's all my fault, it's all my fault." Evelyn lowered her head in guilt, her fingers intertwined, "I'm still not skilled enough, otherwise things wouldn't have turned out this way."

"Lily, don't blame yourself, without you, Edward and I might have been separated forever." Byron's dry, rough hand covered hers, looking at her seriously, "But there's one thing, you must promise me. You must keep the secret of Edward's sequelae buried in your heart forever. The fewer people who know about this, the better."

Evelyn added, "Currently, the only ones who know about Edward's condition are Paul and me. Don't worry, Paul and I are very close, he is completely trustworthy and will never speak out."

Evelyn frowned slightly, asking in a low voice, "But when Edward's sequelae act up, besides taking sedatives, there's no other solution, and I don't know when or where it might suddenly occur."

Byron said, "Then we must hide it as long as we can. At least until the situation is settled until Edward rightfully becomes the heir and inherits the majority of the Wellington family's shares and assets."

Byron's eyes were intense, his fist clenched, "The future heir of the Wellington Group can only be Edward, no one else. If his condition is exposed to those with ill intentions, not only his position as heir but even his role as president could be at risk!"

Evelyn was greatly puzzled, pondering for a while, then tentatively asked, "Grandpa, I thought you chose Edward as the heir because of Caleb's poor health. But from what you just said, it seems that's not the case. What is the real reason you must have Edward as the heir?"

Byron's pupils shook, his Adam's apple moved with difficulty, and he remained silent.
