Chapter 301 Please Give Me Some Love
Meanwhile, Edward was recuperating alone in a private villa in the suburbs.
He had taken his last dose of the first course of medication. He knew that tonight Evelyn would definitely send someone to deliver more medicine.
It wasn't that he believed she still had feelings for him. She just didn't want to owe him anything, that's all.
During the day, Edward felt relatively fine except for some chest pain. But unexpectedly, he developed a high fever as night fell!
"Bart, Bart?" Edward's throat was hoarse and dry, his body alternated between hot and cold, and he could barely keep his eyes open.
After calling out a few times, he remembered that he had sent Bart to the company to retrieve some important documents, who was probably still on the road.
Edward struggled to get up, only to find that the sheets and blankets were soaked with sweat. His front hair stuck to his forehead, and he was drenched as if he had been pulled out of the sea.
He changed into a fresh set of pajamas and, feeling dizzy, went downstairs to get some water.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Edward looked puzzled as he slowly walked over and activated the video intercom.
The moment Evelyn's flawless face appeared on the screen, his dim eyes brightened, and his heart raced uncontrollably.
"Edward, I know you're in there. Open the door," Evelyn's face was stern, her eyes coldly staring at the camera.
Edward pressed his thin lips in silence.
"Are you really dead or just pretending? Open the door," Evelyn's beautiful eyes showed a hint of anger as she put one hand on her hip. "If you have a will, hurry up and make it. If not, I'll come in and collect your body!"
Edward couldn't help but cough at her words.
"Don't think you're the only one who can play that trick. I can do it too," Evelyn, getting impatient, pounded on the door with her small fist. "If you don't come out, I won't leave."
Unexpectedly, the door opened before she finished speaking.
Wearing dark blue pajamas, Edward stood straight in front of her, his handsome face as pale as snow. He smiled weakly but still looked stunning, "Ms. Taylor, it's cold outside. Come in."
How could he bear to let her freeze outside? It would break his heart.
Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she looked at Edward, who was noticeably thinner. His complexion was visibly worse.
Hadn't he been taking his medication on time? He seemed much better a while ago; how did he end up like this again?
Biting her lower lip, Evelyn walked through the door.
Edward, mustering all his strength, led her to the living room, "Ms. Taylor, how did you get here? Did Bart tell you?"
"Don't blame Bart; he did it for your good," Evelyn sat down on the sofa, her stern gaze fixed on him. Her voice was clean and cold, showing little concern. "You don't have many trustworthy people around you. You'd be truly foolish if you fired Bart over this. Following you isn't much fun. If that happens, I'll hire Bart to work at KS, and you better not cry then."
"Ms. Taylor, you're overthinking it," Edward looked deeply into her eyes. Because he was happy inside, even though he tried to stay calm, the corners of his dry lips couldn't help but lift. "Bart has been with me for so many years; how could I bear to let him go?"
He swallowed back the rest of his words: 'I just didn't want you to worry.'
He remembered that night when Evelyn stood with Gilbert, decisively distancing herself from him, her whole being rejecting and resenting him.
He no longer dared to have say those words.
"Calling me Ms. Taylor? How formal of you. Why not call me Evelyn?" Evelyn narrowed her beautiful eyes, smiling faintly.
"Because I know you don't like it."
Evelyn's eyes widened slightly, and inexplicably, her heart felt a pang of sadness.
"In the past, I was wrong, too forceful with you. From now on, I won't do anything to make you uncomfortable," Edward continued.
Edward's pale, handsome face had a broken, sickly beauty that made Evelyn feel a moment of disorientation.
She cleared her throat, placed the medicine bottle on the table, standing up, "This is for the second course. Remember to take it on time. I'm leaving."
"No need, take it back." Edward shook his head.
"Edward, what do you mean by this? Do you want to die?" Evelyn frowned. "You're a new business tycoon worth billions of dollars. Are you willing to die?"
"No, I just feel that you don't owe me anything. Even if I saved you, it was me repaying you, atoning for my sins." Edward shook his head again. "No matter what happens to me, you don't need to feel guilty. Besides, I'm much better now and don't need the medicine anymore."
Better? Who are you trying to fool?
Evelyn was furious inside, letting out a cold laugh, "Is this a new trick? A retreat to advance? I won't be coaxed."
"I know," Edward smiled bitterly. "My words have no tactics, only feelings. I genuinely don't need it anymore."
Hearing this, Evelyn felt a mix of emotions and said coldly, "If that's the case, I have nothing more to say. Finish this course, and you don't need to take any more medicine. Medicine is three parts poison; taking too much isn't good either. Take care of yourself."
With that, she turned to leave, but Edward reached out to stop her.
"It's rare for you to visit me, and it's cold outside. Have a cup of hot coffee before you go. I'll make it quickly."
Evelyn hesitated for a moment and, against her better judgment, didn't refuse him.
She sat back on the sofa, watching Edward's tall, handsome figure walk towards the kitchen.
In her mind, she recalled what Landon had said to her.
In terms of sincerity, she and Edward were the same. Once they committed to someone, they would wear their heart on their sleeves.
Unfortunately, when she had loved him passionately, he had been indifferent. To open her heart to him again would be very, very difficult.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash.
Followed by the sound of a cup shattering on the floor!
"Edward?" Evelyn's heart skipped a beat as she rushed to the kitchen!
On the marble floor, a ceramic cup lay shattered.
Edward was kneeling among the shards, one hand supporting himself on the floor, the other gripping the edge of the table. His entire body was drenched in sweat, his breathing weak and labored.
"What's wrong with you?" Evelyn's face changed dramatically as she hurried forward to help him up.
For Evelyn, Edward's sick body was too heavy to lift despite her best efforts.
With no other option, Evelyn knelt and cleared away the sharp shards, afraid he might fall and cut himself.
"Evelyn, Evelyn," With his dazed and unfocused eyes, Edward lifted his head with all his strength, his cheeks flushed with fever.
Evelyn was shocked and quickly touched his forehead.
It was burning hot, like a boiling kettle!
"How did this happen? How did you get a fever?" Evelyn was anxious and angry, her eyes red as she shouted at him, "Did you take your medicine on time or not?"
Confused, Edward instinctively opened his arms and pulled the woman he loved deeply into his embrace, breathing hotly, "Evelyn, please give me some love, I beg you, give me some."
Evelyn's emotions surged, her lips slightly parted, her eyes slowly filling with a light red hue of surprise. She said, "Edward."
"I want you to give me some love," From Edward's dry throat came a hoarse, indistinct voice that tugged at her heartstrings. "But I'm also afraid because I know I'm not worthy."
