Chapter 551 Ms. Taylor, Ran Away!
Edward had been standing outside Oasis Villa for a whole day and night.
He was that stubborn. If he couldn't see the one he loved or get the answers he wanted, he wasn't going to give up.
Last night, Edward saw Elbert and Calvin show up, knowing they were there to stir up trouble over Randy.
He hid and watched from the shadows, not because he was scared, but because he didn't want to complicate things and make Elbert think he was siding with the Taylor family, which would only rile him up and cause problems for Mr. Taylor.
He could handle things for the Taylor family behind the scenes, but showing his face now wasn't a smart move.
The sky was dark, and the wind howled fiercely, battering him with a force that matched the punches and kicks he had taken the night before.
Edward's eyes were sunken, and his chiseled jaw was covered in stubble, giving him a rugged, unrestrained look, reminiscent of his days in the military.
At that moment, his phone, charging in the car, rang.
It pulled him temporarily out of his painful thoughts.
Edward opened the car door and picked up the phone. It was Bart calling.
"Bart, what's up?" His voice was hoarse, as if all his strength had been drained.
"Mr. Wellington! Finally, I got through to you!"
Bart was on the verge of tears. "Mr. Byron Wellington is unwell and has just been taken to the hospital! You need to come back and see him!"
Edward's heart tightened, and cold sweat soaked through his already damp suit.
In the wine cellar of Oasis Villa, Evelyn's brothers were gathered. They used to laugh and joke, but now they were drinking in silence, each with a worried expression.
Especially Aaron, who was downing one glass after another, treating the strong liquor like water. Simon watched with a burning stomach.
"Aaron, you can't keep drinking like this. It's bad for you," Landon said, frowning as he took the glass away.
"Yeah, you haven't even gotten married yet. Don't ruin your health," Simon added.
Aaron clenched his fist in anger and slammed it on the table.
"You shouldn't have treated Evelyn like that today. You were too forceful."
Landon patted Aaron's shoulder and sighed softly. "You know Evelyn's personality best. The more you pressure her, the more she'll resist."
"Exactly. You two have never fought like this before. This time, it was too much," Simon said, looking worried.
"What do you want me to do? Just let Evelyn get mixed up with that jerk?" Aaron rubbed his face with both hands, his voice raw with frustration. "I wish I could take all her pain. I wouldn't flinch even if I were cut to pieces."
"I can't stand seeing her suffer so much. A miscarriage, for God's sake! She could have had a child, experienced the joy of motherhood like other women!"
Thinking of the nephew they never got to meet, they all fell silent, their hearts aching.
"It's all Edward's fault! All his fault!" Aaron, a strong soldier, was now on the verge of tears.
"Let's not bring this up in front of Evelyn anymore," Landon said, his throat tight as he handed Aaron a tissue. "Not having a child isn't the worst thing. Pregnancy and raising a child are hard. She can live carefree, like a child herself. We'll protect her, and she'll get better."
Suddenly, the wine cellar door burst open!
"Something's wrong!"
Hubert rushed in, panicked. "Ms. Taylor... Ms. Taylor has run away!"
The three brothers stood up in shock. "Run away? How is that possible?"
"She really ran away! She jumped out the window!"
They quickly rushed to Evelyn's room.
The window was wide open, the wind and rain blowing the curtains wildly.
Evelyn was nowhere to be seen!
"This is bad! How did she just disappear?" Simon clutched his head, his heart pounding.
Landon and Aaron saw the mess on the bed and in the closet and immediately ran to the balcony. They gasped.
Tied to the railing was a makeshift rope made of several long dresses, reaching down to the ground!
"Landon, Evelyn's gone crazy! This is the fifth floor!" Aaron's face turned pale, his voice trembling.
"Evelyn! That crazy girl!"
Fear gripped Landon, his heart pounding, veins bulging on his forehead. "If any part of that rope broke, she could have fallen to her death!"
"Landon, stop! My heart can't take this!" Simon clutched his chest, his vision darkening.
Hubert was also in a panic, "Ms. Taylor, please be safe! If anything happens to you, I won't be able to live with myself!"
"Does Dad know about this?" Landon asked urgently.
"Mr. Taylor is already worried about Ms. Taylor. I didn't dare add to his stress."
"Don't tell him for now. His health can't take more pressure."
Landon tried to calm his racing heart. "Don't alert the family. We'll gather people to search immediately!"
"It's storming outside, and Ms. Taylor has no phone or money. What will she do out there?"
Hubert stomped his foot in frustration. "It's my fault! I should have stayed by her side!"
"That's why she won't have gone far. We should be able to catch up if we go now!"
Landon looked out the window. "Is Edward still outside?"
"Mr. Wellington left a while ago!" Hubert answered truthfully.
Simon couldn't help but curse, "Damn it! That scumbag left at the worst time! Evelyn must be looking for him, and now they're probably missing each other!"
Aaron's heart sank.
At that moment, he deeply regretted being so harsh with Evelyn. Everything was unfolding just as Landon had feared!
"If Evelyn is following Edward, she must be heading towards Mugden. We can find her if we search along the way!"
Landon started running towards the door, then instructed Simon, "Call Ulysses and get him to help us find Evelyn!"
Simon nodded quickly, "Right! Ulysses has connections. He'll know what to do!"
Under the night sky, lightning flashed, and heavy rain poured down like drumbeats.
Evelyn was soaked from head to toe, the cold wind biting at her thin frame, making her shiver uncontrollably.
Her phone had been confiscated, she had no money, and she had lost her slippers while escaping. Her bare feet were muddy and bleeding from sharp stones, making her look more disheveled than ever.
But despite the hardships, nothing could stop her determination to break free and run towards love.
She just wanted to love someone wholeheartedly.
Why was it still so difficult?
Evelyn knew her family would soon realize she had run away and would search for her thoroughly. So she avoided main roads and busy areas, taking the difficult and secluded paths towards Mugden.
But in the dark, deserted night, there wasn't a single open store in sight!
Evelyn had been walking in the cold rain for too long. She was dizzy, her body alternating between hot and cold, and she was exhausted.
Suddenly, she saw two lights in the distance!
Overjoyed, she mustered her strength and ran towards the light.
As she got closer, she saw it was an auto repair shop that was still open.
Evelyn was freezing and couldn't hold on any longer. Without thinking, she pushed the door open and went in.
Inside, four men were playing cards, laughing and cursing.
When they saw her, their eyes lit up with excitement.
What a night!
In the middle of a storm, a beautiful woman had walked in. This was going to make their boring night interesting!
"Hey there, beautiful. What can we do for you?" One of the men leered at her.
To them, Evelyn looked like a wet, tempting treat.
"Sorry to bother you," Evelyn said, shivering. "Can I borrow a phone to make a call? I'll reward you generously."
"Reward? Haha, how do you plan to reward us?" The men licked their lips, grinning as they approached her. "How about letting us touch, kiss, and have some fun? Then you can make all the calls you want!"
Evelyn's eyes turned icy, a surge of anger rising in her chest!
Who would understand? She had already had a terrible day, nearly losing her life, and now she had to deal with these scumbags!
One of the men couldn't wait and reached for her chest.
But Evelyn moved swiftly, grabbing his arm and twisting it back!
Then she kicked his leg, making him kneel in front of her, screaming in pain, "Ah! It hurts! It hurts!"
Evelyn twisted his arm until it broke, her eyes fierce. "I'll kill you all!"
Byron had been hospitalized again due to his old condition, but thanks to Desmond's timely discovery, it wasn't serious.
However, he had been worried sick about Evelyn, unable to eat or sleep, looking haggard and exhausted.
With Patrick out of town and the sudden incident, only Edward and Desmond were by Byron's side.
Edward held a bowl of oatmeal, blowing on a spoonful before bringing it to Byron's lips.
Byron had no appetite. Seeing Edward's bruised face and disheveled appearance, he understood, though his tone was stern:
"You went to see Lily?"
Edward's throat tightened. "Yes."
"Got beaten up by them?"
Edward's lips pressed together, unable to speak.
Byron saw through him immediately, his brow twitching. "Did Charlie hit you?"
Edward remained silent.
"If I were Charlie, I'd break your legs! You're lucky to come back in one piece!" Byron showed no sympathy for Edward this time.
"Grandpa..."
Edward's voice was dry and cracked. "Please tell me, what should I do? How can I get Evelyn back?"
Byron shook his head helplessly. "Edward, it's not just you who wronged Lily. I don't even know how to face her anymore.
She was such a good girl. If she hadn't married into our family, she could have lived freely. We ruined her."
The room fell into a suffocating silence.
"If there's no way, then stop trying to find one. Just use a sincere heart to make amends."
Byron's withered hand rested heavily on Edward's shoulder. "Edward, from now on, don't think about getting her back. Think about how to protect her."
"Grandpa, I don't want to let go."
Edward hung his head, fighting back tears. "But I know I'm not worthy of her."
At that moment, his phone vibrated in his pocket.
