Chapter 336 The Gift for Ms. Taylor

Randy's face changed upon hearing this.

Everyone was puzzled.

Gilbert's words were extremely arrogant and provocative!

The guests were chattering.

"Are they not on good terms?"

"Did Gilbert just say that horse is his? So, did Randy use it without asking him?"

"That's not very good, is it?"

The murmurs reached Randy's ears, and he couldn't bear it any longer. He gritted his teeth and said coldly, "Gilbert, it's just a horse. Do you really need to say such things in front of so many people?"

Gilbert replied, "Yes, I do."

Gilbert's elegant eyebrows lowered, and his voice was chilling, "If it were just an ordinary horse, I wouldn't care if you took it. I wouldn't be petty about it.

He added, "But the horse you touched is a gift I was going to give to Ms. Taylor. She hasn't even seen it yet, and you already laid your hands on it. Do you think that's appropriate?"

Evelyn's excited gaze was still fixed on the golden horse. Upon hearing this, her eyes widened in astonishment!

Gilbert sneered, "Randy, we haven't seen each other in years, and your behavior has become more and more disgraceful."

Gilbert didn't hide his mockery, "Didn't Dad ever tell you when you were a kid that it's very impolite to touch other people's things without permission?"

Randy felt as if he had been slapped hard, and his expression began to crumble.

Randy retorted, "If it's a horse you were going to give to Ms. Taylor, why did you tie it here? If you tie it here, I assume it's a horse from the Alexander family stables. I'm a son of the Alexander family, so why can't I take it?"

Gilbert adjusted his glasses and smirked, "So if you're tied here, does that mean I can take you away too?"

Randy shouted, "You!"

Someone couldn't hold back a snicker, and Randy's face turned red with anger. He took half a step forward and clenched his fists!

If it weren't for his secretary holding him back, he would have rushed up to grab Gilbert by the collar!

"Gilbert, it's just a small matter. Let's not ruin our relationship over this." Evelyn gently touched Gilbert twice and said softly, "Let's not disturb him while he's entertaining guests. Let's go somewhere else."

"Alright," Gilbert responded softly, stepped forward to lead the golden horse, and left with Evelyn under everyone's gaze.

Randy gritted his teeth in hatred. He hated Gilbert for humiliating him in public, and he hated him even more for taking Evelyn on a night tour of the stables and openly dating her, which was completely disregarding him!

In the lounge.

Randy downed a glass of whiskey and then smashed the glass violently.

Randy shouted, "What does he have to be so arrogant about!"

"Mr. Alexander, he's not arrogant because he has a golden horse, but because he has a valid reason to make you lose face in front of others," the secretary said angrily.

Randy glared, "Are you saying I allowed him gave to humiliate me?"

"Don't get me wrong, I'm just feeling indignant on your behalf! After all, you are the one Mr. Elbert has chosen to marry Ms. Taylor!" The secretary was sweating heavily.

"I don't need you to be angry for me; I need you to come up with a solution!" Randy's eyes turned red with frustration, his breathing became unsteady, and his hands started to tremble.

Seeing this, the secretary hurriedly brought over a new glass and filled it with whiskey. Randy downed it in one gulp, and his breathing gradually calmed, his hands stopped shaking.

Who would have thought that the elegant and noble Randy, who always appeared so composed in public, was actually a manic-depressive who needed strong liquor to numb his nerves and couldn't control his emotions?

"If he makes you uncomfortable, you should make him uncomfortable too. At the very least, don't let his date with Ms. Taylor go so smoothly and pleasantly," the secretary whispered.

Randy's eyes lit up, and he beckoned the secretary over. "I have an idea. Go take care of it immediately."

Edward couldn't reach Evelyn on her phone and couldn't get any information about her whereabouts from Landon, making him extremely anxious.

Due to his excessive worry, he even experienced symptoms of tinnitus and irregular heartbeat.

Bart said, "Mr. Edward Wellington, Mr. Patrick Wellington has an important engagement and has notified you to attend. You have just recovered from a serious illness and haven't appeared in public for a long time. Tonight's event is especially important as your first public appearance after your recovery."

Bart, as the CEO's secretary, never minced words when it came to important matters. He added, "You are the CEO, the heir. You must attend this event to show that you are well and to stabilize morale."

Edward's brows furrowed deeply, and he didn't speak. He just stared blankly at the dark phone screen.

Bart sighed helplessly, "I know you're worried about Mrs. Wellington, but she's a grown woman with noble status, surrounded by many people protecting her, and she can take care of herself. What could possibly happen to her?"

Bart persuaded, "You were never this irrational before. A man should prioritize his career."

"Do you think it's wrong for me to care about her?" Edward's brows furrowed tightly.

Bart said nervously, "That's not what I meant."

Edward replied, "I remember, I used to be like a work machine, day and night. I had a wife, but I never really cared about her. Back then, nothing seemed more important than work. I used to think that if I lost my status, I would have nothing."

Edward slowly closed his eyes, his long lashes trembling sadly, "Later, when I lost Evelyn, I realized. When she left me, when she wasn't by my side, that's when I truly had nothing. No, it should be that everything I had became meaningless."

"Mr. Wellington, how can you say that? You used to tell me that you knew standing at the top wasn't easy, but you worked hard to get there because you knew that without power, you couldn't protect the people around you. You wanted to achieve great things to honor your late mother!" Bart said anxiously.

Edward's eyes narrowed slightly.

Thinking of Amanda's tragic death, a wave of heartache overwhelmed him, making him feel suffocated.

"Besides, you need to balance both. If you only focus on pleasing Mrs. Wellington and neglect your career, what will you do if you end up worse off than Mrs. Wellington?" Bart persuaded honestly.

Edward squinted his eyes and felt a surge of agitation in his chest.

Edward ordered, "Prepare the car, we're leaving now."

Evelyn said, "A golden horse is very precious. I used to always ask my dad to give me one, but he was always afraid I'd have an accident riding it and didn't want me to get too close to horses."

Under the light, Evelyn excitedly stroked the pink-gold horse's coat,  making her heart race.

Suddenly, her mouth went dry, and an image of Edward's bare, muscular chest flashed in her mind.

Evelyn's fingertips tingled, and her cheeks flushed.

Edward, when he was completely releasing himself on top of her, was also like a wild, untamed stallion.

"Evelyn, do you like it? Evelyn?"

Evelyn snapped out of her daze, and quickly touched her burning cheeks, her eyes glistening, "I love it. Horses are my favorite animals."

Gilbert silently walked up behind her, his tall figure casting a beautiful shadow over her.

He lowered his eyes and gazed at her, his eyes under his long lashes filled with gentle light, "I remember you told me when you were a child that you loved horses and that becoming an equestrian was always your dream."

Evelyn replied, "When I was a child, that was indeed my dream."

Evelyn smiled faintly, "But now, it's no longer my dream, and I know I'm not suited to be an athlete in many ways."

She didn't mind Gilbert often bringing up childhood memories, even if some she couldn't quite remember.

She just felt that their biggest difference was that she always looked forward, while he seemed to always live in the past.

"Evelyn, what is your dream now?" Gilbert clenched his fingers. He wanted to embrace her but held back, his chest heaving, his breath hot.

Evelyn said, "For a long time, I wanted to become an excellent doctor."

She couldn't fight alongside him, but she could be his strong support.

She always hoped he would return safely and hoped that if he ever got hurt, she would be the one to bandage his wounds.

Evelyn added, "Now, I have no dreams."

Evelyn's heart felt numb, sour, and painful, complex emotions surging, leaving only a light laugh on her lips, "Now, I just want to reap without sowing, to enjoy the fruits of others' labor."

"Evelyn, do you have mind-reading abilities?" Gilbert smiled gently, "We think alike."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow, "You're not even thirty yet, isn't that a bit unambitious?"

Gilbert replied, "You misunderstood me. I hope that my future wife can live a carefree life."

Gilbert's warm breath brushed against her ear, a hint of desire in his eyes, "Being my woman, reaping without sowing, enjoying the fruits of others' labor, isn't that how it should be? Only a man without ability would let his woman suffer and toil."

Evelyn's breath caught, unsure if she was overthinking it.

She always felt that Gilbert's seemingly gentle words concealed a hint of sarcasm directed at Edward.

Suddenly, a deafening neigh echoed through the quiet, empty stables!

"Mr. Alexander! Ms. Taylor! Watch out!"

A sudden gust of wind kicked up yellow dust.

Evelyn turned sharply, her pupils contracting sharply!

A black stallion had broken through the fence and was charging straight towards them!
