Chapter 384 Evelyn Got Rejected

These words were not vulgar at all. To Evelyn, however, they felt like a sharp blade piercing through her body, leaving her bleeding.

"Edward, I have never trampled on your dignity. Every time after the divorce, wasn't it you who shamelessly came back to me?"

Evelyn's eyes reddened quietly, but she still managed to show a defiant smile, beautiful yet heartbreaking. "You threw away your own dignity, and now you blame me? Have you no shame?"

'I shouldn't have come. I shouldn't have cared about him! If I had known it would be like this, Edward, you should have just been left to your own devices!'

Edward's breath caught, and he suddenly felt a strong wave of dizziness. His tall body swayed slightly.

"What are you doing!"

Before the words were fully out, a stone hit Edward squarely on the back of his head!

Edward felt a sharp pain, and his brows furrowed tightly.

At this moment, Adrian was already striding over, reaching out to grab the back of Edward's collar, but Edward was quick as lightning!

With a swift sidestep, Adrian missed completely and stumbled forward, looking quite comical with his long limbs flailing.

Evelyn, who had been very angry, couldn't help but bite her lip and stifle a laugh at Adrian's appearance.

Edward's handsome brows furrowed as he touched the back of his neck, tilting his head slightly, exuding a charming yet menacing aura.

"Is that the best you can do for a sneak attack?"

"My sneak attack is still better than you acting like a thug on a dark night!"

Adrian dusted himself off and got up from the ground, still a bit shaken by Edward's reaction. "You're the CEO of the Wellington Group, and this is all you've got?"

"What exactly are you to her?" Edward stared at Adrian with a grim expression.

He was so weak, yet he dared to stand up to him for Evelyn.

It was clear that he held Evelyn close to his heart.

Adrian opened his mouth, unsure of how to introduce himself, when Evelyn spoke softly, "His name is Adrian, a neurosurgeon I brought over from New York."

Edward instantly realized something and remained silent.

"I came here specifically, not for anything else, but for your illness." Evelyn looked at Edward with a calm gaze, devoid of any extra emotion, like a doctor looking at a patient.

Such a detached look left Edward feeling nothing but anger.

"I'm not sick." He responded coldly.

"You don't need to say more. No one knows better than you whether you have a problem."

Evelyn said seriously, "Last time, your head suffered a severe impact. Although I performed surgery on you, it wasn't very successful. Now, when you get emotional, your body trembles uncontrollably, and your actions are out of control."

"Over time, you may experience hallucinations, fainting, and in severe cases, even paralysis. Do you want to end up like that? Aren't you afraid that your grandfather will be heartbroken if he finds out?"

Adrian looked at Evelyn in disbelief. 'She has performed Edward's brain surgery? Unbelievable!'

"Mr. Mays is a renowned neurosurgeon from New York. I specifically invited him to Boston to treat your aftereffects."

"You can go back. I don't need it." Edward lowered his eyes and refused without a second thought.

"Edward, do you think I'm negotiating with you?" Evelyn's beautiful eyes widened.

"Do you think I'm negotiating with you, Evelyn?"

Edward met her gaze, his eyes extremely cold, as if separated by a layer of ice. "My affairs have nothing to do with you. You don't need to interfere."

"You!" Evelyn shouted.

"If you want to continue attending the party, move to the banquet hall. If you only want to talk about this, then take your people and leave."

With that, Edward turned and left without a trace of hesitation.

It was as if he and Evelyn had never known each other.

"Bastard! Do you have a death wish?" Evelyn shouted at his back.

But Edward didn't stop.

"Edward! Stop right there! Edward!"

Edward walked further and further away, his tall and upright figure disappearing into the night.

Evelyn stood there in a daze, letting the cold wind hit her thin frame. She felt the chill seep into her bones, penetrating her heart and lungs.

A huge sense of loss crept up her legs, fine and dense, unavoidable.

"Someone once offered me a billion dollars to treat them, and I refused. Now I'm here in front of Mr. Wellington, and he didn't even look at me."

Adrian leaned against a tree trunk, laughing mockingly. "Should I say Mr. Wellington is a tough guy, or just a fool?"

"A fool," Evelyn's eyes were red.

"Yeah, I think so too. Just didn't want to say it."

Adrian quietly watched her trembling back and suddenly asked softly, "Do you still love him?"

Evelyn's heart felt like it was pricked by a needle. She clenched her fingers. "What did you say?"

"I asked if you still love Edward."

"Is it any of your business?"

"You still love him. By not answering me directly, you've given me the answer."

"Adrian, at this point, I might as well tell you."

Evelyn slowly turned to face him, speaking each word clearly, "I once loved him very much. I even thought my heart could beat for him for a lifetime. Even if he didn't love me, I could follow him for a lifetime. But now, what I feel for him is more guilt. I don't want to owe him anything, that's all."

With that, she smiled and waved her hand, striding forward.

Adrian's heart trembled, and the smile on his lips gradually froze.

He didn't believe in true love.

But if he encountered it, he deeply respected it.
