Chapter 20 Refusing to See Edward
The next morning, Edward dressed himself properly. With his well-fitted suit, he exuded a powerful and dignified aura. He arrived at the KS World Hotel in his best condition.
As soon as he stepped into the lobby, he felt a sense of ease.
Edward had been here once last year. Being meticulous and critical, he couldn't help but complain, "This hotel is a mess. There's nothing unique about it."
But now, the hotel seemed completely different, with the high standards of a top-notch hotel.
Edward thought to himself, "Ms. Taylor seems to have excellent management skills. She is a formidable opponent."
"This is the President of the Wellington Group. Mr. Wellington would like to meet with Ms. Taylor. Please inform her," Bart inquired after several attempts to find Evelyn's executive secretary.
"I'm sorry. Ms. Taylor does not meet with anyone without an appointment," the executive secretary replied politely.
"Even Mr. Wellington from the Wellington Group needs an appointment?" Bart frowned.
"Why not?" the secretary replied.
"You!" Bart's face turned red with anger. He really wanted to complain about this secretary!
"I have an appointment today. When can I see Ms. Taylor?" Edward questioned, his face growing cold.
"Ms. Taylor is quite busy. I can't say for sure. Why don't you come back tomorrow to check?"
"You!" Bart had a decent temper, but now he was finding it hard to control himself.
"Alright, Bart. Let's make an appointment for now," Edward grabbed Bart's arm, his eyes filled with a strong shade of darkness.
After all, losing one's temper was not elegant in any way and wouldn't solve any problems.
They returned in failure. Once they were back in the car, Bart was so angry that he clenched his teeth until they hurt. He hit the car window hard.
"They are going too far! This is Mugden, not the Taylor family's Hameen! Evelyn is so arrogant. Isn't she afraid of offending you and getting blocked throughout Mugden?" Bart exclaimed.
"We'll come back tomorrow."
Edward furrowed his brow tightly and closed his eyes, tilting his head back. The sharp line of his jaw and neck formed an enticing curve.
"Didn't you hear what that guy said just now? I guess we won't be able to see her tomorrow either!"
"If not tomorrow, then the day after. I must meet Evelyn, no matter what."
Edward loosened his tie, feeling annoyed. "The Adams Group can't wait any longer. If this continues, it might go bankrupt."
The next day, Edward arrived at the hotel early. However, Bart was right. They still couldn't meet Evelyn.
On the third day, Edward failed again.
He was a prominent business tycoon who had accompanied the President on foreign visits and received the highest level of foreign hospitality. As long as he revealed his name, he was a fearsome individual in the country. But Evelyn completely disregarded him. She didn't give him any face!
She was utterly despicable!
It was a gloomy and rainy day. Evelyn came to work in a good mood. Her sharp, high heels gave her a brisk stride. She was wearing a double-breasted black suit skirt with exquisite tailoring that made her look like a female tycoon. A pair of gold rose pendants on her dainty earlobes added the perfect touch to her attire.
"Oh my god! Our female CEO is so beautiful! I've fallen in love with her!"
"Ever since Ms. Taylor arrived, female employees eagerly anticipate her outfits, while male employees await the purification of their hearts from her angelic face. We all work with vigor!"
"If we call her the most beautiful heiress, no one would oppose, right?"
Since Mike left the hotel, everyone has been completely obedient to Evelyn. Every department dared not slack off and strive for perfection in their work. In less than half a month, Evelyn transformed the lifeless hotel into a thriving one.
In the business world, managers must first resolve internal conflicts within their company before they can compete globally.
"The Wellington Group has quietly injected a considerable amount of money into the Adams Group. Due to negative news, almost all of the Adams Group's orders were canceled, causing disastrous losses. This money can be seen as giving them a lifeline."
On the other end of the phone, Landon reported the latest situation to Evelyn.
"I knew it. How could Edward not help his wife's family? He's so deeply in love. Even though he's been betrayed, he's still in a rush to be with the betrayer. It seems like he can't wait to go from being a loving person to a fool."
Evelyn chuckled coldly, kicked off her high heels, and rubbed her sore ankles. "However, reputation ruin is not a problem that money can solve. Edward injecting funds into the Adams Group now is like trying to save a dying person. The outcome won't change."
"Edward, just like you, is a business genius. He understands the reasoning you just mentioned. Besides stabilizing the situation with money, there isn't a better solution at the moment.
Landon let out a refreshing laugh. "Sometimes, I can't help but think that if you two truly loved each other and got married, the whole world would be at your mercy. You would have total control."
"We weren't destined to be husband and wife, but we can certainly be enemies."
Evelyn took a piece of chocolate from the drawer and put it in her mouth, her gaze icy.
Just as she finished her call with Landon, William rushed in, clearly impatient.
"Ms. Taylor! Edward is here again! He's shameless. It's a shame he's not selling insurance!"
"He could endure for the person he loved. His resilience truly impressed people." Evelyn didn't even bother to look up, as she was busy signing documents.
But William could sense a hint of bitterness and pain in her calm words, though he wasn't sure if it was just his imagination.
"Ms. Taylor, this time, I will personally go down and deal with him. I will definitely drive him away completely!"
"No, bring him up instead," Evelyn closed her pen and looked up at him.
"What?" William was extremely surprised.
"He has already come to see me three times. In any case, I have to show some respect for the president of the Wellington Group, right?"
Evelyn leaned forward, extending her lovely feet.
William hurried over and kneeled to help her put on her high heels.
"Now, you go to the restaurant and coffee shop areas and find a girl with a beautiful face and fluent speech. I have a task for her."
A few minutes later, William led a qualified waitress to the office.
"M-Ms. Taylor, hello!" The waitress nervously greeted Evelyn, holding her breath out of fear.
"Don't be nervous. I'm just temporarily assigning you a small task. After you complete it, I will reward you," Evelyn smiled faintly.
"Ms. Taylor, working for you is already satisfying enough for me. I don't need any rewards!" The waitress's face turned red. "I really like you! You're my idol!"
So she was Evelyn's fan!
Evelyn smiled at her, nodding repeatedly. "Not bad. Your figure is similar to mine. William, go prepare a set of my clothes and shoes for her."
"Uh? Okay..." William left in confusion.
"Ms. Taylor, what do you want me to do for you?" the waitress asked eagerly.
Evelyn grinned cunningly, "The president of the Wellington Group, Edward, will come here to meet me later. I'm annoyed with him and don't want to see him. You will meet him on my behalf."
Upon hearing this, the waitress's legs went numb with fear.
"Don't be afraid. I will be monitoring the office all the time. Just wear the Bluetooth earpiece, and whatever I say, you say it."
"Remember to act naturally."
After three attempts, Edward finally got the opportunity to meet Evelyn.
Although he maintained a calm expression on his stern face, his heart was beating faster, and it was difficult for him to stay quiet.
The executive secretary led them to the elevator. Along the way, Edward's outstanding appearance drew the attention of female employees.
When they reached the elevator, Bart was about to press the button but was stopped by the executive secretary.
"This elevator is exclusively for Ms. Taylor. You can only take the others."
"Hmph, what's so great about that?" Bart couldn't help but roll his eyes.
Edward didn't mind. After all, he had his exclusive elevator at the Wellington Group.
The elevator slowly ascended to the 40th floor.
However, the elevator stopped at the 30th floor.
"Please get off the elevator," the executive secretary said.
"We haven't reached there yet. Isn't Ms. Taylor's office on the 40th floor?" Bart asked, surprised.
"Yes, but this elevator only goes up to the 30th floor."
"What do you mean?" Edward frowned tightly.
"Except for the manager's exclusive elevator, the other five elevators only go up to the 30th floor. Without Ms. Taylor's authorization, no one can take the exclusive elevator, so if you want to go to the 40th floor, there is only one way."
That was to climb the stairs!
Bart was furious. "Is this how Ms. Taylor treats her guests? She's going too far!"
"This is what Ms. Taylor wants, and I can only follow her orders. If you don't want to, I can send you back downstairs," the executive secretary said, like an emotionless machine.
"Forget it. We'll climb."
Edward clenched his thin lips, suppressing his anger. He didn't hesitate and walked out of the elevator.
He thought, 'Does Evelyn believe that by challenging me like this, I will give up?
Giving up has never been an option in my life!'
