Chapter 216 Catching the Traitor
After the last meeting, the team was pumped and full of hope.
Evelyn was like a spiritual leader. Her charisma captivated not just her employees but everyone around her.
Today, Evelyn, smiling brightly, held the regular meeting and said, "Tonight, Ada agrees to meet with me. Whether it works out or not, it's a good start."
The team cheered with excitement!
Only Donovan, sitting at the back, smiled without any real joy in his eyes.
"Even though we breached the contract first, I don't think Ms. Smith is inflexible. I'm confident our latest proposal can outshine the Wellington family's. Once she reviews it, she'll be more satisfied than before," Evelyn said confidently.
"Ms. Taylor! Show it to us too!"
"I'd love to, but after what happened last time, I have to be cautious. It's not that I don't trust you all, but there are too many eyes on us now. As the General Manager of KS WORLD, I can't fall into the same trap twice. Please understand."
Everyone understood Evelyn's concerns and wished her success, eager and ready to go.
In the evening, Evelyn was dining at a restaurant while William organized files in her office.
After finishing, William left the office while talking on the phone.
Donovan rushed into Evelyn's office like a gust of wind.
With loose security, he made it to Evelyn's office.
Even though he knew there were cameras, he was determined to go through with it because he was running out of time!
If he didn't get the new proposal tonight and stop Evelyn from reestablishing cooperation with Ada, he couldn't avenge Dorothy!
Blinded by his obsession with Dorothy, Donovan was willing to do anything for her, even commit crimes.
Using his phone's flashlight, Donovan quickly searched Evelyn's office, confident the proposal was still there.
'After all, Evelyn hasn't left the hotel yet, and William left without his bag, so the proposal should still be here,' he thought.
He frantically searched through drawers and cabinets, sweating profusely.
Finally, he found the proposal at the bottom of a pile of documents.
"Great!" Donovan held the document, tears of excitement streaming down his face. "Dorothy, I finally could avenge you!"
Suddenly, the office lights flooded the room as William led several bodyguards in, surrounding Donovan.
Caught red-handed, Donovan stood there, stunned, still holding the proposal.
'I knew I'd be discovered eventually, but not this soon!' Donovan thought.
The bodyguards lined up, making way for Evelyn, who walked in wearing a sharp black suit and black stiletto heels with red soles, exuding a fierce aura.
Her presence was as imposing as a high-ranking inspector in a movie.
Seeing Evelyn, Donovan trembled.
"Donovan, do you know that commercial theft is still theft? With those few sheets of paper in your hand, I can make sure you rot in prison and lose everything you have," William said.
Donovan's pupils dilated, and he staggered back, almost losing his balance.
"Now, with everyone watching and the evidence clear, do you have anything to say?"
William, remembering the suffering Evelyn endured because of Donovan, was filled with rage, his eyes red, already thinking of several ways to punish him.
"I have nothing to say." Despite his fear, Donovan's love for Dorothy gave him the courage to confront Evelyn and William. "I stole the proposal and sold it to the media. It was all my doing, and I'm willing to face the consequences!"
Though he said he was willing to face the consequences, his defiant stance showed he was far from resigned!
Seeing Donovan's reckless attitude, William, gritting his teeth in anger, wanted to rush up and hit him.
"Everyone except William, wait in the hallway," Evelyn, who had been silent, said with authority.
The bodyguards quickly left the room.
"Donovan, at this point, I might as well tell you everything." Evelyn leisurely walked to the sofa, sat down, and casually picked up a piece of chocolate, unwrapping it and putting it in her mouth. "Actually, from the beginning, there was no new proposal, and I never arranged to meet Ada."
"What did you say?" Donovan asked in shock.
Evelyn chuckled. "Don't believe me? Open it and see."
Donovan, trembling, opened the "proposal" in his hand, immediately breaking into a cold sweat.
Except for the first page, the rest were all blank sheets! And just now, he confessed to his crimes, with everyone present as witnesses, and William recorded the confession with a voice recorder!
'It's a trap!' Donovan thought.
"Evelyn, how did you know it was me?" Donovan asked, dropping his pretense.
"Our KS World Hotel is impenetrable from the outside. Only someone from the inside with ulterior motives could give outsiders a chance." Evelyn slowly chewed the chocolate. "After the incident, I knew there was a traitor among the team members, so I secretly followed each of you. But you were very patient, always hiding without giving anything away, and refrained from contacting Dorothy. If I hadn't set this bait to lure you into taking a risk, I might have never caught you. It would have been very difficult to get any evidence against you."
"You know about Dorothy? How did you know?" Donovan, disregarding his situation, was only concerned about Dorothy.
"Don't forget who Ms. Taylor is," William sneered, finding his question foolish.
Donovan's shoulders slumped in defeat.
'She is the Taylor family's daughter, wealthy and powerful. How could Dorothy stay hidden? The enemy is overwhelmingly powerful,' Donovan thought.
"Donovan, you have worked at KS WORLD for ten years. In those ten years, you have been diligent, planning many high-quality events. You are a talented person. Originally, I planned to promote you to Director of the Planning Department at the end of this year," Evelyn sighed with regret.
Donovan's pupils shrank in shock.
"For the sake of your so-called love, you threw away your bright future and now face imprisonment. Do you think it was worth it?"
"Of course! I love her, and I am willing to do anything for her!" Donovan's expression suddenly turned ferocious, his eyes filled with madness, as he took a sudden step forward.
Evelyn's beautiful eyes remained calm and steady.
William, however, was startled, instinctively stepping in front of Evelyn to protect her.
"Evelyn! Stop pretending to be a good person!" Donovan glared at Evelyn's stunning face, filled with resentment for his beloved. "I don't care about your promotion! Everything I did was to avenge Dorothy! Because of you, Dorothy's father went to prison. You ruined her life! You, a wicked capitalist, just losing a project is too lenient! In my eyes, you deserve to die!" Donovan furiously berated Evelyn.
