Chapter 540 Unforgivable Sin, Beyond Redemption

Evelyn and Edward's eyes locked, their gazes reflecting only each other.

Edward took steady but heavy steps, closing the distance between them.

Evelyn's father stood beside her, momentarily dazed, almost on the verge of tears.

Edward was walking towards his happiness, his bride.

"Edward..." A single tear rolled down Evelyn's delicate cheek.

He would sacrifice everything for her, even if it meant being alone. And she would do the same.

Whether it was standing together on the battlefield of Liberland or three years ago when she defied her family's objections and the disdain of the Wellington Group to marry him, they had both fought fiercely for love.

"Wait!" Jessica's eyes were bloodshot, her voice trembling and sharp.

She couldn't take it anymore.

Hope after hope, only to be crushed each time. She couldn't take it anymore!

'Evelyn, Edward, you want to be together, right?'

'Fine, then let me stab a bloody wound into your hearts, a wound that will never heal, so you'll never find peace!'

Everyone turned their eyes to Jessica, their expressions growing impatient.

Jessica's face was pale, her lips twitching into a sinister smile, her expression eerily demonic.

"Mr. Wellington, I know the Clark family can't compare to the Taylor family in power. You might feel a bit shortchanged with Edward's wife changing from Ms. Taylor to me. But choosing Ms. Taylor, I fear you'll regret it in the future."

Her words were both a plea and a provocation, stirring everyone's curiosity, including Patrick's.

"And Mr. Taylor."

Jessica's gaze shifted to Charlie, her tone filled with concern, "I know you have many children, but Ms. Taylor is your favorite, the one you care about the most. You can't stand to see her suffer or be wronged. Do you really think Edward is worthy of being Evelyn's husband?"

Everyone exchanged puzzled looks.

Evelyn sensed Jessica's true intentions, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.

Before she could speak, Charlie couldn't hold back, his voice stern, "Miss Clark, stop beating around the bush and say what you mean."

His commanding presence silenced Jessica, and even those around felt a shiver.

At that moment, Landon and Eric entered the hall, having just dealt with Randy, and witnessed the scene.

They stopped abruptly.

Landon felt a sudden unease, glancing at Eric with a complex expression.

"Damn it... I took my eyes off her for one second, and Jessica's causing trouble again!"

Eric gritted his teeth, his fists clenched, ready to charge forward, but Landon held him back.

"Mr. Clark, don't be impulsive. My dad and Edward are here, so there's no need to worry too much. Besides, you're about to be appointed president of the Clark Group. If you help outsiders over family now, Maurice will hold it against you. It could mess up your future, so don't act rashly."

Eric's eyes burned with determination, his jaw tight. "I don't care. I care more about my friends!"

Landon's expression softened, seeing Eric in a new light.

Edward's gaze was icy as he stared at Jessica.

Jessica steadied herself, then shouted, "Bring it up!"

She knew what she held was a trump card. This move would ensure mutual destruction, but she was beyond caring. She just wanted their relationship to be completely ruined!

An assistant, waiting below the stage, hurried over and handed Jessica a manila envelope.

"Mr. Edward Wellington, you were secretly married to Ms. Evelyn Taylor for three years. During those years, you cheated on her, making her a laughingstock."

Jessica didn't take the envelope immediately; instead smirking at Edward. "For three years, you ignored her love, her pain, and even forced her to divorce you for the sake of someone else you loved. Did I get anything wrong?"

Everyone knew about Edward and Evelyn's tumultuous marriage. But the pain Edward caused Evelyn, even if time had passed and he had tried to make amends, still made others feel heartache for her. What kind of love could endure three years of that? Most people wouldn't last a day!

Edward's voice was hoarse. "No, you didn't get anything wrong. I admit it."

"Do you think the harm you caused Ms. Taylor ends there?" Jessica laughed. "Think again."

Edward's brow furrowed deeply, a familiar headache returning, making his vision blur.

Evelyn's heart tightened, realizing something.

Jessica crossed her arms, nodding to her assistant. "Go, give this to Mr. Charlie Taylor. I think no one here wants to know more about what his precious daughter went through than Charlie."

The assistant handed the envelope to Charlie.

"Dad! No..."

Evelyn's forehead was covered in cold sweat as Charlie opened the envelope and pulled out a document.

In seconds, the powerful man, who had weathered countless storms, looked as if he'd been shot through the heart, his soul shattered by the revelation. His lips turned pale, trembling, his fingers nearly tearing the paper.

Evelyn's ears buzzed, her voice choked. "Dad... I..."

"Evelyn... is it true?" Charlie's pained gaze turned to the pale-faced Evelyn, his voice shaking as he threw the document at her. "Tell me, is everything on here true?"

Evelyn's body trembled as she stiffly crouched down, like an elderly person, to pick up the paper, clutching it tightly.

Edward, bewildered, was about to step towards her when she answered, "Yes. It's all true."

Charlie's vision darkened, his head throbbing with pain.

Landon and Eric stood frozen in shock.

Especially Landon, who had never seen Charlie so furious with Evelyn in thirty years! Even when he found out about their secret marriage and subsequent divorce, Charlie's anger was mostly directed at Edward for betraying Evelyn, never at Evelyn herself.

Why was this happening now?

As everyone stood in confusion, Charlie stormed forward, grabbing Evelyn's arm and practically dragging her out.

"Come on, you're coming back to Hameen with me right now!"

Evelyn's eyes were blurred with tears, her heart aching. "Dad."

"And I forbid you from having any contact with Edward! If you don't listen, you'll never step foot outside Oasis Villa again!"

Charlie's words were final, almost cruel in their decisiveness.

Edward's breath caught, his blood running cold.

If the brief moment of hope earlier was a dream, Charlie's harsh words were a brutal nightmare.

"Mr. Taylor, even if you lock Ms. Taylor away forever, it won't solve anything. Problems need to be faced head-on," Jessica said, feigning concern but clearly reveling in the chaos. "But it seems it's too late now, nothing can be done."

"Ms. Evelyn Taylor lost a child she had with Mr. Edward Wellington, and because of that, she lost her ability to have children."

"So young, and already stripped of the chance to be a mother. What woman could bear such pain? If it were me, I'd wish for death. Ms. Taylor is truly a strong woman."

A child? Evelyn had been pregnant with his child?

Did they had a child together?

Edward's tall frame shook violently, his soul turned upside down, torn apart by the revelation.

He gasped for breath, his handsome face drained of color, the pain choking him.

"Evelyn... when?"

Was it during their marriage, the one time they were intimate, when he was drugged and out of his mind? Was that when she conceived his child?

But how did the child die?

Why didn't she tell him?

Why didn't she say anything?

Evelyn closed her eyes in despair, tears streaming uncontrollably down her pale, delicate face.

She couldn't say anything now, as if she had lost her voice.

The crowd was in an uproar, unable to believe their ears.

Evelyn, the daughter of the richest man, a privileged woman, had been rendered infertile by Edward. What kind of hell had she endured in the Wellington family? What cruel torment had Edward inflicted on her?

Even for a family as powerful as the Taylor family, infertility wasn't a death sentence.

But the ability to bear children was a fundamental right for every woman. The choice to have children and the ability to do so are worlds apart!

Eric stood frozen, numb with shock.

Landon, beside him, was devastated by Evelyn's plight, nearly collapsing, saved only by Eric's timely support.

They thought they knew Evelyn, believed they understood all her secrets.

But the truth before them was a harsh slap in the face for Landon!

They were all failures in protecting Evelyn!

Seeing Charlie's intense hatred for Edward, Jessica turned her attack to Patrick. "Uncle Patrick, you've seen the harm Edward has caused Ms. Evelyn Taylor. You can't possibly let them be together now, can you? It's so unfair to Ms. Evelyn Taylor, you can't bear to see her suffer, right?"

Patrick heard another layer to her words.

Evelyn, unable to bear children, couldn't be a new member of the Wellington family. Didn't Patrick want his family to continue?

"Edward, do you think you still deserve to be with Ms. Evelyn Taylor?"

Patrick's gaze shifted, targeting Edward. "Every moment Ms. Evelyn Taylor spends with you, her heart is filled with pain. She must be thinking of that lost child. If you truly love her, you should let her go. Separate and let each other find peace."

Edward's eyes filled with tears, shaking his head in despair, his body wracked with pain.

Their child was gone, and he was only now learning the truth.

Did he even deserve to live?

He was unforgivable, beyond redemption.

"Jessica."

A harsh voice cut through the air, Eric's dark figure striding forward, like a cold, imposing mountain before Jessica.

"Eric, what do you want to say? At this point, nothing you say will matter," Jessica taunted, emboldened by the crowd.

But the next second, a powerful gust hit her!

"Ah!" Jessica screamed as she was thrown to the ground, blood streaming from her nose and mouth.

The crowd recoiled in shock, gasping!

No one expected Eric to slap Jessica three times in front of everyone, including their elders!

His eyes were cold and merciless as he pulled a handkerchief from his suit pocket, calmly wiping his reddened hand.

"You're right, it's too late. So I'll deal with the trouble you've caused with action. Jessica, having a woman as vile as you in my family is the greatest shame of my life."
