Chapter 509 Unexpected Incident, Evelyn in Danger!

Jessica called Barry Myers, Maurice's trusted aide, to a secluded spot where they conspired in secret.

"Uncle Barry, you've been with our family for years. You've been working for Maurice since I was a child. I know you're loyal to the Clark family," Jessica said, tears welling up in her eyes, looking quite pitiful.

"Yes, I've watched you grow up. The Clark family has been good to me, and I would do anything for them without hesitation!"

Barry vowed earnestly, then asked worriedly, "Jessica, is something wrong? You look so pale!"

Jessica then began to fabricate a story, twisting the truth, and vividly described how she was bullied by Evelyn.

"Not only that, she wants to steal my fiancé!"

Jessica cried her heart out, "Edward and I are in love and were about to get engaged. But Evelyn came between us and took Edward away. If I can't get engaged to Edward, I'll become the laughingstock of all of Mugden! How will I face anyone? I might as well be dead!"

"No, don't say that! You're Maurice's beloved granddaughter, the only daughter Clifford left behind. It's not worth hurting yourself over Evelyn!"

Barry, who had no children of his own, treated Eric and Jessica as his own, and naturally, he was furious. "Jessica, Evelyn is too wicked! How dare she go after your man? She's asking for trouble!"

"Uncle Barry, do you have any way to teach her a lesson? Make her lose the competition, stop her from competing with the Clark Group for the project, and prevent her from taking Edward from me?" Jessica sobbed, but her eyes flashed with malice.

She knew Barry was a smart and ruthless man. He would understand the implication of her words.

But the plot couldn't come from her mouth, or it would give others leverage against her. She never trusted anyone completely.

Barry paced back and forth with his hands behind his back, then suddenly said darkly, "To make Evelyn lose the competition, we need to tamper with her horse."

"What do you plan to do?"

"When a horse is running, its explosive power is terrifying. They will keep running under the rider's command, even if their legs are injured, until they collapse."

"So, I plan to drug her horse. If she's unlucky, Evelyn will be crippled on the racetrack. Even if she's lucky enough to reach the finish line, her horse will be ruined!"

The race quickly entered the third lap, the final round!

Now, the outcome was almost certain, with the Taylor family, the Wellington Group, and the Clark Group vying for the top three spots.

The Alexander family's SwiftHoof had fallen far behind, missing out on the top three!

"SwiftHoof is such a disappointment!" Elbert, seeing that he had no chance to collaborate with the Journey Group, stomped his foot in frustration, "I've treated you so well, but you haven't given me the return I deserve!"

Everyone couldn't help but laugh.

"But Charlie's SilverSteed is really impressive."

Gilbert took the opportunity to flatter, trying to strengthen the relationship between the two families, "Evelyn said SwiftHoof and SilverSteed were similar, but they're worlds apart, completely incomparable. Dad, you should consult with Gilbert on how to choose racehorses next time, so we can surpass them."

These words were somewhat biased towards outsiders.

But Elbert wasn't angry; instead, he felt that Gilbert's words were timely.

Charlie smiled kindly at Gilbert, "Gilbert, your father has never admitted I'm right in his life. It would be a miracle if he asked for my advice. However, SilverSteed's quality is one thing, and Evelyn's excellent riding skills are another important factor!"

"Indeed, Evelyn is the perfect girl in my heart." Gilbert's passionate gaze followed the captivating figure on the racetrack, openly expressing his feelings.

"I really want to punch him!" Eric watched Gilbert fawn over Charlie, clenching his fists, "Hey, you can't just stand there. If this continues, Evelyn will be taken away! You should go and flatter Charlie too!"

"I'm not good at that." Edward's heart was with Evelyn on the racetrack, answering absentmindedly.

"If you don't know how, you can learn. I can be your teacher!" Eric winked and nudged him with his shoulder.

"Eric, I feel a bit uneasy." Edward felt a strange heaviness in his heart and loosened his Windsor knot.

"I feel uneasy too. Just looking at Gilbert makes me want to puke." Eric pretended to gag.

"I have a feeling something is going to happen."

Edward's eyes were clouded with worry. He didn't know if he was overly concerned, but he felt a sense of oppression, hard to describe.

'Evelyn, it doesn't matter if you win the championship.'

'Your safety, returning to my side, is more important than anything.'

"Calvin, Gilbert is constantly flattering the Taylor family. I see he's got Charlie wrapped around his finger."

Helen whispered to Calvin with a worried look, "Charlie might really want to pair Evelyn with Gilbert. That would be a disaster! If Gilbert marries Evelyn, the Taylor family will surely help him seize the inheritance in the Alexander family."

"Now that I'm married off and Randy is crippled, you don't have anyone to support you. If Gilbert has Charlie's backing, he won't even consider us! He might even threaten your position as CEO."

"Enough, stop talking!" Calvin interrupted coldly, his eyes glinting with frost, "It's too early to worry about that now. Evelyn is not an ordinary woman. She once secretly married without Charlie and Edward knowing. How could she possibly agree to marry Gilbert so easily?"

"That's true, but..."

"Moreover, from another perspective, I'm actually looking forward to the moment when Charlie forces Evelyn to marry Gilbert."

Calvin's eyes darkened, and he smirked, "That would cause quite a commotion."

Evelyn's forehead was drenched in sweat as she urged her horse to gallop at a breakneck speed, making the spectators' hearts race with fear!

"SilverSteed! Faster!"

SilverSteed ran with all its might, like a bolt of lightning!

Just two seconds ago, it was neck and neck with BlazeRunner, but in the blink of an eye, BlazeRunner was left far behind, unable to catch up.

The foreign rider glared at Evelyn, whipping ThunderStride's haunches fiercely.

Evelyn gritted her teeth, her competitive spirit fully ignited, her eyes red as if they were about to bleed!

Suddenly, SilverSteed stumbled, its breath unsteady.

Evelyn's body lurched downward, sensing something was wrong!

SilverSteed's condition was off. Having spent a long time with the horse, she quickly realized its leg was in trouble!

"SilverSteed! Stop! Don't run anymore!" Evelyn urgently commanded, pulling the reins tightly.

The race could be lost, but SilverSteed couldn't be harmed!

However, the usually obedient SilverSteed continued to run wildly, not listening at all!

It was as if its competitive spirit was burning even more fiercely than its rider's!

"SilverSteed! I order you to stop!" Evelyn used all her strength to rein it in, but she couldn't control this runaway horse!

The finish line was just ahead.

Everyone in the VIP seats held their breath; even Gavin and Sawyer leaned forward, eyes fixed on the impending race result.

"Something's wrong!" Edward's eyes narrowed, his heart pounding wildly.

Maybe it was his sharp intuition, or maybe he sensed something from Evelyn's overly tense expression. He dropped his binoculars and turned to run, ignoring the stares of those around him.

"Edward! Wait! Where are you going?" Eric panicked, unable to leave Molly alone, torn with indecision.

Gilbert's eyes darkened, and he quietly instructed Curtis beside him, "Go find out what's happening."

There were only a few dozen meters left, and the Clark Group's horse was in the lead.

Maurice was so excited that his hand holding the cane was trembling, while Neil had already walked over to Gavin and Sawyer, ready to shake hands in celebration.

At this moment, Evelyn on the racetrack had completely disregarded winning or losing; she was only concerned about SilverSteed's safety!

Just as the foreign jockey thought victory was his, and waved to the audience.

A gust of wind flashed past him, so fast he couldn't even see it!

Immediately, thunderous applause erupted from the stands!

"Horse number five has crossed the finish line first! Congratulations to the KnightSpear Group, Evelyn is the champion!"

Led by Charlie, the Taylor family erupted in cheers!

"Evelyn! You're amazing! Evelyn!" Even the usually soft-spoken Joyce shouted joyfully.

Landon beamed, clapping until his hands were red.

Maurice's face stiffened as he saw the big project slip away, and Neil was even more embarrassed, his outstretched hand left hanging.

"I guess there's no need for a handshake now, is there?" Gavin crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.

Neil could only smile awkwardly and withdraw his hand.

While some were celebrating and others were disappointed, the crowd suddenly gasped!

"Oh no! Look! Evelyn and her horse have fallen!" Jessica immediately jumped up, pointing at the racetrack, her eyes gleaming with excitement!

Dust flew as SilverSteed, having crossed the finish line, suddenly collapsed, its massive body sliding several meters on its knees before crashing to the ground with a heart-wrenching neigh!

Evelyn was thrown off, crashing into a nearby advertising barrier!

"Evelyn!"

The Taylor family was terrified, Charlie's vision darkened, and he trembled all over. If not for Joyce supporting him, he might not have been able to stand. Landon and Hubert immediately left their seats, rushing towards Evelyn.

"Evelyn!" Molly covered her mouth, bursting into tears.

"Don't be afraid, Molly! Evelyn will be fine, don't be afraid!" Eric's heart tightened as he hugged Molly, patting her comfortingly.

His sharp gaze swept towards Jessica.

Jessica had a smug, sinister smile, which stung his eyes.

Earlier, he had already been suspicious.

Evelyn's fall was so sudden that no one had time to react. But Jessica noticed immediately and was the first to alert everyone, as if she had known it would happen.

It was too uncanny!

Evelyn's back was hit, the iron frame pressing into her waist, causing her to curl up in pain.

At that moment, her mind was blank, breathing heavily with her eyes closed, and the distant and hazy noise around her felt like a terrifying nightmare.

In her drifting thoughts, Evelyn heard footsteps rapidly approaching and anxious calls, seemingly calling her name.

Was it the medical staff?

Was it Charlie? Or Landon?

"Evelyn!"

The next second, Evelyn felt her weak self being enveloped in a warm embrace, holding her tightly. That irreplaceable sense of belonging instantly cleared her dazed mind.

She slowly opened her eyes, meeting Edward's tear-filled, red eyes, and smiled faintly, "So it's you!"
