Chapter 369 Gilbert Harmed Me

Evelyn was eventually arranged by Elbert to be sent home by Gilbert.

Edward pushed Byron's wheelchair towards the parking lot, with Jessica following closely behind.

"How long are you going to keep following?" Edward suddenly stopped and asked without turning his head.

This sudden stop almost made Jessica bump into Edward.

"Edward, I want to help you take Grandpa home." Jessica looked pitiful, "Grandpa just got back from the hospital, there must be a lot of things that need taking care of. I want to help you."

"Help? What can you do?" Edward asked bluntly.

Jessica remained silent.

"I've seen how Sophia and Eric have protected you. Your hands haven't even touched a bit of dirt. What can you do?" Edward said coldly, giving her no face at all.

"Edward, I..."

"Who Grandpa needs, you know very well."

Thinking of Evelyn, Edward felt his heart tightened, and he lowered his long lashes, "If you really care, go back and take care of Maurice."

With that, he pushed Byron away.

Jessica was left standing there, her face flushed with frustration.

On the way back, the driver was driving, Tyler sat in the front passenger seat, and Edward and Byron sat in the back.

The car was warm, but Byron's face was stern.

Edward knew Byron was very angry.

But his divorce from Evelyn was a fact, and the irreconcilable differences were also a fact.

He had pursued her with all his heart, even risking his life, but he couldn't gain her trust.

He wasn't afraid of one-sided effort; he was just afraid that she had never trusted him.

Finally arriving at Half Moon Bay, Edward got out of the car to help Tyler prepare the wheelchair, intending to help Byron sit down.

"I don't need a wheelchair. I'm not disabled. Why should I sit in a wheelchair?"

Byron impatiently pushed Edward aside and instructed Tyler, "Tyler, bring me my cane."

Soon, Tyler brought the cane over.

Byron took the cane, tightened his pale, dry lips, and without a word, swung his arm and hit Edward's back!

Tyler was shocked.

With a heavy thud, Edward felt a dull pain in his back and frowned deeply.

"Why are you even alive? You might as well be dead!" Byron said, hitting him again in a fit of rage, "Lily is such a good girl! Your relationship was finally starting to improve, why did you say those things? Why did you push her away? Are you out of your mind?"

Edward gritted his teeth, enduring Byron's beating and scolding.

Byron continued, "Are you blind? Can't you see how much Gilbert cares about Lily? Can't you see how close they are now? Can't you see that Elbert wants Lily to be his daughter-in-law?

"You and that Jessica are ambiguous. Even if you are innocent, you should have explained to Lily and shown your sincerity!

"The more this happens, the more you should hold onto Lily's hand! No matter what others say, you shouldn't let go of her hand!"

'Do you think I don't want to? Do you think I want to sit by and watch her be with Gilbert?' Edward thought, fuming inside.

"Grandpa, I said those words, I did those things. You can hit me." Edward clenched his fists tightly, his eyes red, "After you finish hitting and scolding, please rest early. Then, let go of everything between Lily and me."

"Let go? You want me to let go? What are you going to do? Marry Jessica?" Byron was furious, barely able to stand with Tyler's help.

"Do I have to get married? I've been married once, that's enough. I can stay single for life. I don't like kids either."

For some reason, when Edward said this, he felt like every word was stabbing his heart.

It's not that he didn't like kids, but if he couldn't have children with the woman he loved, their existence had no special meaning to him.

If they weren't the product of love, he couldn't guarantee he would give them all his fatherly love, which wouldn't be fair to the kids.

"Why should I let go of such a good girl? Unless I'm dead, she will always be my family, always my future granddaughter-in-law!"

Byron, with red eyes, pounded the ground with his cane in anguish, "Maybe Lily is just a woman you like, but to me, she's not only a good kid but also my lifesaver!

Two years ago on Christmas Eve, if it weren't for Lily being by my side, if it weren't for her getting me to the hospital in time, you wouldn't have a grandpa now!"

Edward's eyes dimmed, "I know, that car accident, you were seriously injured. If it weren't for Evelyn..."

"You only know she took me to the hospital, but do you know how badly she was hurt at the time?" Byron's eyes filled with tears, "I was in a coma, all of you were abroad and couldn't come back. Only Lily and Tyler were by my side!

"At that time, I had no idea Lily was so badly injured! Her head was bleeding, and she was covered in blood. She repeatedly told Tyler not to tell you or me, fearing we would worry!"

Edward's pupils trembled violently.

Hearing these words, he felt as if his heart was pierced with sharp blades, ready to shatter at the slightest touch.

Tyler, recalling the past, also lowered his head in sorrow.

The secret he held weighed heavily on him, making it hard to breathe.

But he was a professional secretary, and no matter what Byron or Evelyn had instructed him, he would never reveal a word, even to his death.

"Grandpa, is this really true?" Edward was stunned, as if struck by lightning.

"At this point, why would I lie to you?"

Byron, unable to stand any longer and overwhelmed with emotion, finally collapsed into the wheelchair. "Lily's sacrifices and contributions for you are far greater than you can imagine.

"But back then, you were completely taken in by Nicole and couldn't see her worth. You owe Lily a debt you can never repay. Even if she throws tantrums at you for a lifetime, even if she despises you forever, you deserve it, and you have to endure it!"

Byron finished speaking and turned his wheelchair, moving forward without looking back.

"Mr. Wellington! Let me take you to your room," Tyler said urgently.

"No need! I'm in a bad mood, and I don't want anyone bothering me!"

The air seemed to freeze, solidifying the blood in Edward's veins and halting his breath.

"Tyler, as you can see, Grandpa doesn't want to see me." Edward's throat was dry, his voice low and hoarse, "I'll stay at a hotel near Half Moon Bay tonight. If anything happens to Grandpa, notify me immediately, and I'll come right away.

"I won't stay here and upset him further. I'm leaving now."

"Mr. Wellington! Wait!" Tyler called out anxiously.

"Is there something else, Tyler?"

"Is there really no chance between you and Ms. Taylor?"

Edward felt a sharp pain in his chest, "I don't know."

"There are things about Ms. Taylor that you don't know." Tyler clenched his fists, struggling to hold back.

Edward slowly turned back, looking at him with extreme surprise, "What things?"

"Ms. Taylor asked me to keep it a secret, and I promised her I wouldn't say."

Tyler was in a difficult position, "But I hope one day, Ms. Taylor can tell you herself."

These words completely piqued Edward's intense curiosity!

Evelyn had once hidden her identity and loved him for thirteen years. These secrets had already given him a soul-shaking impact!

What other secrets was she hiding from him?

Could they be even more unbelievable than those?

Two days after the amputation surgery, Randy woke up.

That day, Evelyn arrived at the hospital early. She wasn't just there to perform the surgery and leave; after all, Elbert had entrusted her with this, and she had an obligation to follow up on the subsequent treatments.

In the ward, Evelyn and two attending doctors were present. She carefully examined Randy's reattached left leg, while his right leg had been replaced with a prosthetic.

"My leg, my leg." Randy cried out in despair, but he couldn't cry anymore, "I'm finished, my life is over!"

"Randy, I hope you can maintain a calm mind." Evelyn, wearing a mask, looked at him with her clear, beautiful eyes, "You saved one leg, which makes you luckier than many people in this world."

"Someone wanted to kill me, Gilbert harmed me!" Randy's face suddenly twisted with rage, grabbing Evelyn's hand.

Evelyn was startled and instinctively looked back at the other two doctors.

Fortunately, they were standing a bit farther from the bed, and with Randy's slurred speech, they didn't hear what he said.

Evelyn asked the two doctors to leave, closed the door tightly, and then asked Randy seriously, "Randy, during the last surgery, you were under anesthesia and said that Gilbert wanted to kill you. Do you have any evidence?"

Randy's face was ashen, and he trembled violently.

He recalled the car accident that night terrified him!

"After my car was overturned, the driver died on the spot, but my secretary didn't die. I was trapped under the car, unable to move, but I clearly remember my leg wasn't broken and could still move!"

Evelyn frowned, "And then?"

"Then I saw a black car slowly approaching. A man wearing a baseball cap and a black mask got out. His build, his eyes, I wouldn't mistake them—it was Gilbert!"

Randy's eyes widened in terror, "He came over, holding an iron rod, and without a word, he killed my secretary right in front of me!"

Evelyn's heart tightened sharply.

"Then he raised the rod high and struck my leg! I screamed in agony, and after that, I don't remember anything."
