Chapter 383 Except for Evelyn, Only Evelyn
There were many people around.
But the moment Edward and Evelyn locked eyes, it was as if everything went silent, and all the noise around them disappeared.
Lori's eyes lit up with excitement when she saw Edward appear!
She quickly tidied up her appearance and shuffled towards Edward with small steps.
But she had only made it halfway when several people crowded around, isolating her on the outermost edge.
Lori clutched her skirt in frustration.
Why was it so hard to get close to Edward?
While Evelyn, she silently married this outstanding man who was adored by everyone!
The more she thought about it, the more upset and unwilling she felt. She widened her red eyes and squeezed to the front.
Seeing Edward right in front of her, she rolled her eyes and pretended to lose her balance, falling directly onto Edward.
Edward's brows furrowed. He wanted to dodge, but he was surrounded by people and had no room to move, causing Lori to fall right into his arms.
The overwhelming sweet perfume made him dizzy, and he really wanted to kick her aside.
"Sorry, Mr. Wellington, I lost my balance for a moment." Lori pressed her hands against Edward's chest, looking delicate and charming, but inside she was overjoyed.
No man could resist a woman throwing herself into his arms, especially not a beautiful woman like her.
However, the moment Lori raised her watery eyes to meet Edward's gaze, she was so frightened that she shivered and got goosebumps.
Those incredibly charming eyes showed no emotion, just staring at her coldly!
At this moment, Tiffany and Debra happened to come downstairs and witnessed the scene.
Debra had just managed to fix her face, though it hadn't fully recovered yet, and she had to use thick makeup to cover the scars.
"Who is that woman clinging to Edward?" Tiffany yawned.
Just last night, she had taken advantage of Patrick being out of the country to have a tryst with the young and handsome doctor Percy Wheeler. They had made love all night, and her waist still ached.
She really enjoyed the joys of a young body.
Tiffany even felt that knowing Percy had made her glow.
"Let me see." Debra looked closely and searched her memory for a while before remembering, "Oh, she's Lori, from the Taylor family."
"From the Taylor family? Where did the Taylor family come up with someone like her?" Tiffany felt annoyed just hearing the name Taylor family.
"She's the daughter of a collateral branch of the Taylor family. Her dad is Charlie's younger brother, but he only holds a nominal position in the company with no real power."
Debra said with a hint of disdain, "I didn't even recognize her at first glance. I heard she's addicted to plastic surgery, so she probably had more work done."
Tiffany could tell that this Lori wasn't a good person either and asked in a low voice, "How is her relationship with Evelyn?"
"Not very good, I heard."
"Interesting." Tiffany yawned again, looking like she was enjoying the drama, "Jessica didn't come tonight. If she had, there would be even more excitement."
Debra knew that Maurice had been working hard behind the scenes to get Jessica to marry into their family. At such a critical time, Jessica needed to keep a low profile, so she didn't come to an event like this tonight.
Thinking about Jessica soon marrying into the Wellington family made Debra feel uneasy and lose sleep.
But then she thought that Jessica could help her get revenge on Molly and Eric, which gave her some comfort.
Debra casually glanced around.
When she saw Eric sitting on the sofa in the corner, a huge shadow engulfed her, making her legs go weak, and she sat down on the steps!
Everyone around looked over at Debra and, seeing her embarrassing state, started to snicker.
"What are you doing?"
Tiffany looked at the pale-faced Debra with disdain, "So many people are watching, get up quickly!"
But Debra's legs were shaking, and she couldn't stand up!
For the first time in her life, she felt the taste of being threatened, oppressed, and tortured by psychological shadows! Eric was simply a devil!
Evelyn watched as Lori fell into Edward's arms, and he didn't push her away immediately.
A chilling coldness spread through her entire body, and her beautiful face was covered with frost.
Adrian took a leisurely sip of champagne, resting his elbow on the table and his chin in his hand, looking playfully at the women around Edward. He clicked his tongue twice, "Now I understand why you two got divorced."
"He's excessively outstanding. Living with him, there's no sense of security at all."
"Look at him, he must be feeling very proud right now, right? He doesn't even see you, his ex-wife, in his eyes. You're really wasting your concern on him."
"Are you talking too much nonsense?" Evelyn shot him a cold glance.
"This isn't nonsense, it's the truth. It's only because we're somewhat related that I'm saying this. If it were someone else, I wouldn't bother." Adrian flashed a roguish smile.
"Move aside." Edward said coldly to Lori.
Before Lori could react, Edward gave her a hard shove, pushing her away!
Wearing high heels, she lost her balance and stumbled backward!
The two women behind her quickly stepped aside, and Lori fell to the ground in a mess.
At that moment, Bradley happened to walk in with other guests and saw Lori's embarrassing state.
"Mr. Taylor, I heard Lori is here tonight?" a guest beside him asked.
Bradley regretted bringing her; she had completely embarrassed him!
The scene suddenly became a bit chaotic.
Lori sat on the ground, completely dumbfounded.
Just then, familiar high-heeled footsteps approached from behind her, step by step, as if treading on her spine.
"Mr. Wellington."
The clear and pleasant voice, elegant and composed, shook Edward's heart deeply.
"It's Evelyn!"
"It's really Evelyn! She's so beautiful!"
"I love her suit. Suddenly, my high-end dress doesn't look good anymore!"
"Forget it, if you had Evelyn's face, you'd look good in a sack! That outfit only she can pull off; no one else could."
The socialites immediately made way for Evelyn, completely voluntarily.
Edward stared at Evelyn, suppressing his overwhelming desire, and walked past Lori without a second glance, as if she were nothing but trash.
Lori was completely disoriented, kneeling on the ground, forgetting to stand up.
"Ms. Taylor, do you need something?" Edward walked up to Evelyn, his eyes deep and his voice hoarse.
"Yes. Can we talk privately?" Evelyn's beautiful eyes were calm, her voice not loud but enough for everyone around to hear.
Edward didn't hesitate, "Sure."
Under everyone's gaze, the two of them left together.
Behind them, there were only sounds of astonished sighs.
Evelyn and Edward walked to the hotel's back garden.
They fell into silence, as if there were a thousand words to say, yet everything was unspoken.
Even their silence was in sync, which was truly heartbreaking.
"Ms. Taylor, I didn't expect you to come tonight, and with a new date."
Edward broke the silence first, his words still harsh, "I thought you'd come with Gilbert."
"What? Are you disappointed that I didn't come with Gilbert?"
She retorted unceremoniously, "Mr. Wellington, I also didn't expect you to have some connection with my cousin Lori. You two seemed quite close just now. Did I interrupt something by calling you out?"
"Did you call me out just to say this?" He coldly lifted his lips, "We've been divorced for so long, and you still care about which woman I'm with?"
"Edward, you think too highly of yourself. Who you're with has nothing to do with me.
"If you're interested in Lori, I can help you set it up. After all, she's my cousin. We might even end up as relatives again."
Edward clenched his fists secretly, his eyes gradually reddening.
No one could provoke him like Evelyn.
Only Evelyn could do that.
"But Lori is a Taylor. She can't be your mistress. Why don't you consider carefully and choose between Jessica and Lori, and stop wavering?"
Edward felt a sharp pain in his chest, his eyes reddening as he suddenly pushed Evelyn against a thick tree trunk, his strong arm propped beside her head, leaning in and staring at her.
Evelyn's throat instantly went dry, and she tightly pressed her lips together.
She could even feel the faintly trembling muscles under Edward's black suit. She didn't dare to meet his gaze.
"Evelyn, since you chose to leave me, you should stay far away. Why do you still come to me?"
"Edward."
Edward's pale thin lips slowly approached her, his lowered eyes desolate and dim, "I did love you, but that doesn't mean my dignity can be trampled by you, again and again, like this!"
