Chapter 127 You Are No Different from Others

The Wellingtons were caught off guard! From Rodolfo's arrest to the Wellington family making headlines, and now Tiffany being taken by the prosecution—it all hit like a storm, leaving the Wellingtons no time to react!

"You can't arrest me! What proof do you have?!" Tiffany was shaking, her composed facade crumbling.

Debra looked pale and frozen, unable to do anything but watch Tiffany being taken away.

"Patrick! You have to help me!" Tiffany cried, tears streaming down her face.

Patrick's face turned red with anxiety. He wanted to step in but didn't want to lose face, so he lashed out at Evelyn, "Ms. Taylor! What is the meaning of this?!"

"Patrick, it's the prosecution taking Tiffany away, not me. Why are you yelling at me?" Evelyn replied calmly, with a composed smile.

"How did you know what would be on the news at three? How did you dare to make those accusations? Isn't this all your doing?!"

"KS is a big company. If the media knows, why wouldn't the Taylor family? Patrick, you're overthinking it." Evelyn's eyes showed a hint of disdain.

Patrick, humiliated and angry, trembled with rage, "Ms. Taylor, you and Edward's divorce is no one's fault! You just weren't meant to be!"

Mario and Laura were completely shocked! They thought, 'The Taylor family was married into the Wellington family?! When did this happen?! Unbelievable!'

"Because of the divorce, you hold a grudge and sabotage the Wellington family. Isn't that petty and underhanded?!"

Even William felt a sting from these harsh words and was about to defend Evelyn.

Unexpectedly, Edward stepped forward!

Edward stood tall and firm in front of Evelyn, facing Patrick with a cold expression.

"Patrick, you have no proof that Ms. Taylor did this. You're being irrational."

"Edward! You're actually defending her?!" Patrick was furious, his eyes red. "You're divorced, and she not only misbehaves but also attacks the Wellington family. Why are you defending Evelyn?!"

Edward frowned slightly, turning to Evelyn, his deep eyes unreadable.

Evelyn met his gaze for a moment, then turned away in disgust, curling her lips into a cold smile.

'Of course, Edward's heart is still with the Wellington family. He's just like Patrick—both fooled by women, both foolish from head to toe.'

"I believe she didn't do this," Edward said, enunciating each word.

Evelyn was stunned, slowly turning to look at him, but he had already turned back. "Even if we're divorced, as long as she's wronged, I'll stand by her side."

Suddenly, Edward's lips curled into a thin smile, his brows tightening. "Even if we weren't divorced, it's not your place to lecture my wife."

Evelyn pursed her red lips, digging at her ear in embarrassment.

'What nonsense, it's unbearable to listen to.'

Patrick was so angry his ears were ringing, and his blood pressure was about to spike.

'If it weren't for the presence of others, I would have slapped Edward hard!'

Seeing Edward and Patrick argue, Evelyn felt a strange sense of satisfaction and couldn't be bothered to argue with Patrick anymore.

'I've achieved what I wanted; just one last step remains.'

"I think Patrick and Edward will be quite busy today, so I won't disturb you any longer. I'll take my leave."

With that, Evelyn and William turned to walk towards the shuttle bus.

"Ms. Taylor! Please wait a moment!" Mario wiped his sweat, hurrying to catch up. "About Starhaven, I think we can have a deep conversation!"

"I think we can talk about it too." Evelyn smiled slightly, but her attitude clearly showed she felt superior. "In the next couple of days, I'll arrange a meeting. Wait for my message."

"We'll definitely wait! At your convenience!" Mario's attitude was so enthusiastic it was like he was a different person.

"Ms. Taylor, if you don't mind, can I bring Bishop along? He'd be thrilled to meet you!" Laura smiled broadly, trying to get closer.

'As the daughter of the richest man in Hameen, who wouldn't want her?'

Edward's breath caught, and his face turned sour.

"Laura, I appreciate the thought," Evelyn smiled gently, "but I'm divorced, which makes things awkward. I have no plans to remarry anytime soon. I wouldn't want to waste Bishop's time."

"Nonsense! So what if you're divorced? Ms. Taylor, even divorced, you're a thousand times better than those superficial young ladies!"

Debra's cheeks burned at these words, and she gritted her teeth in hatred, glaring at Evelyn, who was like the bright and dazzling morning sun, making everything else pale in comparison.

The shuttle bus started, and Evelyn, having achieved her goal, left the mess to the Wellington family.

"Patrick, I think we should forget about the Starhaven project for now. We'll work together on other suitable projects in the future." With that, Mario and Laura hurriedly left. 'If the project I brought in has problems, I'll be in big trouble!'

Just as Patrick was overwhelmed, he realized that Edward had also disappeared at some point.

Evelyn changed out of her youthful golf outfit in the locker room into her noble and cold self. She flicked her hair, walking out in her delicate high heels.

As soon as she turned the corner, she bumped into Edward.

Evelyn's chest trembled slightly, and she lifted her beautiful eyes to meet Edward's cold gaze without a trace of fear. "Edward, since when did you develop a hobby of lurking outside the women's locker room?"

"Evelyn, I won't let you have the Starhaven project." Edward's throat tightened, and Evelyn's mocking smile was like a small hook, igniting a dark fire in his heart. "This project belongs to the Wellington family. If you try to interfere, I won't let you succeed."

"Well, what can you do? The Wellington family is currently trending negatively because of Rodolfo and Tiffany's cases. The prosecution will definitely investigate the Wellington family. During the investigation, you can't sign any contracts, right? Even if you want to keep this project, it's beyond your power." Evelyn sneered.

"Evelyn, you keep saying that we're done after the divorce, but what are you doing now?" Edward suddenly turned, his long arm propped against the wall, trapping Evelyn against his heaving chest. "Is it only by constantly fighting and competing with me, making me lose to you, that you feel better? That you can vent your anger?"

"Oh, so that's what you think." Evelyn's rosy lips curved like a cold moon, her eyes shooting a cold light that made his chest tremble. "Since you think that way, why did you pretend to speak up for me earlier? Don't you know that being hypocritical, saying one thing and doing another, is disgusting?"

'Disgusting.'

Edward gritted his teeth, unable to suppress the anger rising from his heart, also frustration.

"Evelyn, don't push me to take action against you." Edward's beautiful eyes bore into her enchanting face, "Don't think that just because we were married for three years, I'll go easy on you in the business world! You are no different from anyone else!"

Evelyn blinked, not angry at all, but rather excited, "That's right, Edward. If I play the black pieces, then you must take up the white, or the game would be boring. Oh, let me tell you a secret."

She tiptoed, whispering in his ear with a low laugh.

Edward was filled with anger, but the moment he heard her laugh, his cheeks and ears turned red, the heat inescapable.

"The evidence of Rodolfo's crime was submitted to the prosecution by me, and the media got the news from me too. Honestly, you should thank me. This way, Tiffany's attempt to join the board is probably impossible now."

His mind buzzed, and his heart felt like it was being scraped by a dull knife.

"The business world is like a battlefield, Edward. If you don't bring out your best skills, you'll lose miserably. Out of respect for you, next time I will strike more ruthlessly and decisively than this time."

With that, Evelyn suddenly withdrew her smile, pushing him away forcefully, and walked away like a proud queen, leaving Edward standing there, his eyes red.

Surrounded by air, he felt utterly suffocated.
