Chapter 547 The Alexander Family Visits, Demanding an Explanation
Some were feeling down, while others were on cloud nine.
Gilbert acted like he just got the news, his face full of worry as he sat up straight in the living room.
"First, we get rid of that jerk, and now this guy shows up! What a nightmare!"
Simon and Landon were watching from the second floor.
Landon glared at Gilbert's ever-deceptive face, gripping the railing so hard his knuckles turned white.
"At such a big event, as the most favored heir of the Alexander family, he didn't show up. But the moment something happened to Evelyn, he rushed over."
"From my years as a prosecutor, I can tell tonight's incident is tied to him. He might be in cahoots with Jessica, using that foolish woman as his pawn!"
"Your analysis matches mine. But Gilbert is cunning, always using others to do his dirty work."
Landon's cold gaze fixed on Gilbert's face. "Before he makes a move, he always plans his escape route. He's probably already distanced himself from any blame."
"Otherwise, he wouldn't have come here so brazenly tonight. He must think he's in the clear."
"Damn it... It's disgusting!" Simon exhaled angrily.
At that moment, Charlie, accompanied by Joyce and Hubert, came to see Gilbert.
"Mr. Charlie Taylor, Mrs. Joyce Taylor."
Gilbert quickly stood up and bowed, his polite and gentle demeanor exactly what the elders liked.
"Gilbert, Evelyn isn't feeling well and can't see visitors."
Seeing Charlie's grim expression, Joyce spoke on his behalf. "And with the unpleasant events at the party tonight, as you must know, we're really not in the mood for visitors. Please leave."
Gilbert's eyes darkened at Joyce's dismissal. He clenched his fists in frustration but maintained his composure. "I heard Evelyn wasn't well, and I couldn't rest easy, so I rushed over to check on her."
"Mr. Charlie Taylor, don't worry. I know several renowned doctors from Aurora Isle. If the doctors here can't help, I can bring them to Hameen for a consultation!"
"Gilbert." Charlie suddenly spoke in a deep voice. "We appreciate your concern. But right now, you're Jennifer's fiancé. Even though you and Evelyn grew up together and are close, you should focus more on Jennifer. You and Evelyn need to keep your distance."
Gilbert was taken aback, his face paling!
Simon was secretly pleased. "He can scheme all he wants, but he'll never get Evelyn!"
"Mr. Charlie Taylor, the one I want to marry, has always been Evelyn! I've never wanted to marry anyone else!" Gilbert's eyes burned with intensity, openly revealing his feelings.
Joyce was stunned, her lips pressed tightly in embarrassment.
"What are you saying?"
Charlie's brows furrowed deeply, his voice low. "Gilbert, my daughters are treasures, not commodities for you to choose from. It was decided to be Jennifer, and it will be Jennifer. Don't bring up Evelyn again!"
"Mr. Taylor, I swear to God, my love for Evelyn is real."
Though Gilbert was cunning and deceitful, his love for Evelyn was genuine. His eyes were filled with sincere emotion. "I never had a choice in the matter of marriage or the partner! And you know, the only reason I agreed was because I thought Evelyn had found her happiness... But do you still think Edward is a good match for Evelyn?"
Charlie's breath hitched, remembering that Evelyn could never be a mother. The pain made his vision blur.
"In the past, I couldn't protect Evelyn, and she suffered greatly. From now on, I will only protect her. I will never let her down like Edward did, and I will never hurt her."
Gilbert's eyes were red with tears, his voice hoarse with pleading. "Mr. Taylor, please... let me marry Evelyn. I will never let her suffer again!"
"Keep dreaming!"
Seeing Landon and Simon walking down the stairs together, Gilbert's eyes darkened with malice, his teeth clenched tightly!
"Dad! Don't be fooled by this guy's appearance. He's not a good person! Tonight's events were probably orchestrated by him and Jessica, trying to steal Evelyn away!" Simon, being straightforward, was ready to tear apart Gilbert's facade.
Charlie and Joyce were both shocked and incredulous!
"Simon, I know you all don't like me, and you know I love Evelyn. But that doesn't mean you can slander my character."
Gilbert adjusted his glasses. "I have no connection with Jessica, except for that one time at the horse race when she caused trouble for Evelyn, and I stepped in to help. That's it. You are Evelyn's family, so I won't pursue this matter. But I hope there won't be a next time."
If it weren't for his father and Joyce being present, Simon would have cursed out loud!
"Simon, don't make baseless accusations," Charlie reminded, his eyes complex.
Simon was anxious, about to step forward, when Landon grabbed his arm.
"Gilbert, you marrying Evelyn is impossible. And Randy marrying Jennifer? Forget it!"
Charlie's and Joyce's eyes widened in shock at Landon's words.
Gilbert's brows furrowed tightly, suspicion growing in his heart.
"Mr. Taylor! Elbert is here to see you!" The butler came in, panting.
"Elbert? At this hour?" Charlie was surprised, checking his watch.
Elbert didn't come alone this time; he brought Calvin with him, making quite an entrance.
"Landon! How could you do this to Randy? This is outrageous!"
Elbert stormed into the living room, his face twitching with anger.
The Alexander family coming to cause trouble was something Landon had anticipated. After all, he was the one who sent Randy to the police station to clean up after Evelyn and William.
"Landon, what's going on? What did you do to Randy?" Charlie was confused.
Elbert's outburst had summoned Donna and Susan as well.
"Mr. Taylor, Landon had Randy arrested and is pressing rape charges!"
Calvin gritted his teeth in anger. "I don't know if this was his idea or Ms. Taylor's! Seeing Randy crippled, they thought he couldn't fight back and decided to ruin him!"
Rape charges? Everyone except Landon was stunned!
Gilbert's expression darkened as he adjusted his glasses, instantly understanding. Randy and Helen's plot had been exposed by Landon and his team. Not only did Randy fail to win over Jennifer, but his own actions were also revealed.
What an idiot. If he had known they couldn't handle such a simple task, he would have pushed them harder from the start.
Elbert was nearly breathless with rage, and Calvin had to support him, glaring at Landon. "If you didn't want the marriage, you could have just said so! Using such despicable means to frame Randy, is this what you call high society etiquette?"
Before Landon could respond, Susan exploded first. "Who are you calling despicable?"
Charlie was startled.
"Your father has known Charlie for thirty years. You know our family's values and conduct. If you didn't trust us, why did you come to us in the first place?"
Susan grew more furious, hands on her hips, exuding authority. "Do you think the Taylor family girls have no other suitors? That they have to marry into the Alexander family? If you doubt the Taylor family, then this marriage is off!"
Calvin was humiliated but couldn't argue with Susan, as he had to maintain his image! He couldn't understand how, after one party, Randy ended up in jail as a rape suspect! It was infuriating!
Joyce was anxious, her forehead sweating. Rape... Randy raped someone? Could it be?
She remembered Jennifer had been locked in her room since returning, claiming to feel unwell and refusing to come out. As a mother, her instincts were on high alert, and she was deeply worried.
"Elbert, Mr. Alexander, we understand your concern for Randy."
Donna pulled the furious Susan behind her, her expression calm. "But if Randy was sent to the police by Landon, it must be because he did something wrong."
"Instead of demanding answers from us, you should get Randy a good lawyer."
"Aunt Donna, you're absolutely right!"
Simon raised an eyebrow, sarcastically agreeing. "You might want to hire Gordon from the Flynn family. He's all about the money, perfect for handling Randy's case."
The Alexander family was even more furious!
The Taylor family was united and sharp-tongued, like an impenetrable fortress. They couldn't gain any advantage in this argument!
Gilbert's pale face was covered with a thin layer of frost. If things escalated, it could disrupt his plans. But at this critical moment, he couldn't take sides. He had to remain invisible, or it would be detrimental to him.
"Randy would never do such a thing! There must be a mistake!"
Elbert glared at Landon, but his words were directed at Charlie. "Charlie, tonight, Landon must personally get Randy out of the police station and drop the charges! Otherwise, the Alexander family will fight the Taylor family to the end!"
Charlie's brows furrowed, his eyes anxiously turning to Landon. "Landon, what happened to Randy? I need an explanation!"
"Get that bastard out? Drop the charges? Absolutely not!"
Everyone turned to the voice.
A regal and commanding figure descended the spiral staircase, exuding authority and presence!
Evelyn led the way, with Aaron following behind her like a knight silently guarding his queen. The man's calm eyes were like stars, yet they held a sharp, intimidating edge. His gaze alone could make people tremble. Only when he looked at Evelyn did his eyes soften, like being touched by spring rain.
Gilbert knew this man was Evelyn's Aaron, with a strong military background and significant power. But even so, he was insanely jealous! Evelyn could be with any man. But not him! What would it take for him to win that position? Did he have to eliminate all these men in his way?
"Evelyn? Why are you out here?" Charlie was shocked, then looked at Aaron. Aaron adored her, so he must have let her out!
"Elbert, Mr. Alexander, when you went to see Randy, did he only tell you that Landon arrested him? Did he say anything else?"
Evelyn stepped off the last stair, her lashes lifting, her smile stunningly beautiful yet chilling. "I didn't just have him arrested. I crushed his tailbone, broke his fingers, and knocked out his teeth. I even considered castrating him, but I figured it wasn't necessary. After all, even if I didn't, he wouldn't be of any use for the rest of his life."
