Chapter 162 Let's Be Together, Shall We?
Lately, things had been crazy, but today it finally settled down.
Evelyn set off a chain reaction, using the unimportant Virgil to take down the Adams family.
The Wellington family got dragged in, but luckily Edward didn't marry Nicole after all; he was humiliated anyway..
In the general manager's office, Evelyn took a break to play some games while William peeled grapes for her and filled her in on the latest.
"Peter said Karen's case is going to trial soon. No decent lawyer wants to defend her because the evidence is too strong. She's looking at twenty years for sure," William said, feeding Evelyn a grape.
She ate it, squinting and licking her lips, "Sweet!"
William smiled. Her saying "sweet" made his heart melt.
"Peter's so formal. He could've called me directly but went through you," Evelyn sighed, a bit annoyed.
Peter and Jennifer both had a lot on their plates.
Peter's only three years older than her and has always looked out for her like her four biological brothers.
"Peter's got a bit of an inferiority complex. He finds it hard to show you affection openly," William, as an outsider, understood the Taylor family dynamics well.
"Peter overthinks. To me, he's just like my other brothers. I love and respect them all the same," Evelyn said.
"By the way, Virgil's been detained. Simon and Peter got some thugs from casinos and loan shark companies locked up with him to vent your anger," William's gaze turned cold. "The money Virgil owes, let him pay it back in there."
Evelyn smiled, "They're thoughtful. I'll cook them a meal to thank them."
"Also, I heard the Adams family's debt is almost paid off," William continued.
Evelyn paused, frowning, "Did Edward help? He's really going all out for them."
"It wasn't Edward, it was Tiffany," William replied.
Evelyn pursed her lips, staying silent.
"But it's weird. Nicole's reputation is ruined, and she's got no value left. Tiffany's not a saint, so why clean up the Adams family's mess?" William wondered.
"Nicole might have something on Tiffany. They've worked together for years. Nicole must know some of Tiffany's dirty secrets. Tiffany's not doing this out of charity; she's probably being blackmailed by Nicole," Evelyn said coldly.
"Serves her right!" William peeled another grape and fed it to Evelyn. "I heard Nicole paid a hospital bill and then fled abroad to avoid the fallout. She probably won't come back to Mugden for a while. As for that poor little girl, Nicole didn't care at all. I've sent her to a welfare home sponsored by the Taylor family. The kid's doing well there, so you can relax."
"What a pity," Evelyn said, swallowing the grape.
"Pity?" William asked, confused.
"It's a pity Nicole and Edward didn't end up together. They're both selfish and cold-hearted. They deserved each other," Evelyn replied.
Evelyn was about to log off the game when she noticed a friend request from a high-level player named Rose.
She didn't think much of it. As the well-known player Lucifer, she got tons of friend requests daily. She just had a good feeling about Rose and accepted.
Soon, Rose sent a message.
Rose: [Want to play a game?]
Lucifer: [I'm logging off, maybe next time.]
Rose: [How about a cup of coffee at the KS WORLD café?]
A few minutes later, Evelyn hurried to the café on the third floor of the hotel.
The café was pretty empty at this hour. Gilbert sat alone by the window, the sunset making him look particularly striking.
"Gilbert," Evelyn said, surprised. "When did you get here? Why didn't you let me know?"
"I heard you were busy and didn't want to disturb you. I just get back to Mugden and have nothing to do, so I thought I'd wait for you here." Gilbert shook his phone. "I logged into the game and saw you online, so I reached out."
"What do you want to drink? It's on me." Evelyn felt a bit guilty for not knowing he was in town.
"I've already tried three different types of coffee. I'm not thirsty, but I am a bit hungry." Gilbert adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, smiling sincerely. "Could you treat me to a meal at your hotel? I haven't had authentic Mugden cuisine in years."
Evelyn knew he had been waiting for a while and felt it would be rude to refuse. "Sure, it's on me. Eat as much as you want!"
She had William book a high-end private room and asked the hotel's chef to prepare some signature dishes for Gilbert.
During the meal, they chatted and laughed, keeping the atmosphere light and pleasant.
Outside, William leaned against the wall, feeling uneasy as he faintly heard Evelyn's laughter.
He had a strong dislike for Edward and wasn't fond of Gilbert either. Some people just give you a bad vibe from the start.
William admired Evelyn but didn't get jealous every time a man approached her.
He just felt that Gilbert, with his seemingly deep scheming behind his smile, was hard to figure out. His actions were unpredictable, and even Evelyn couldn't anticipate when he would suddenly appear by her side. It was hard to guard against.
"The chef at KS World Hotel is excellent, and the food was delicious. Thanks for the treat," Gilbert said, smiling contentedly.
"You're welcome. I've been meaning to treat you. After all, you saved my life," Evelyn replied sincerely.
"Since I saved your life, you wouldn't just repay me with one meal, right?"
Gilbert leaned forward, smiling captivatingly.
Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise. The next second, two concert tickets appeared in front of her.
"Christian, the famous pianist, is having his first concert in Mugden tonight at seven. Shall we go together?"
Evelyn's pupils contracted slightly, clearly caught off guard.
Perhaps fearing her refusal, Gilbert's breathing grew slightly heavier as he gazed at her, his warm voice becoming more alluring.
"You wouldn't refuse a small wish from your lifesaver, right?"
