Chapter 101 A Huge Misunderstanding
Ethan had no clue something big happened to Ashley today too.
Ryan led the investigation and found footage of someone carrying an unconscious Ashley into a hospital.
Ryan called Pauline, "Ms. Miller, we found Ashley. She's at Graceview Medical Center."
"Great, I'm heading over now."
Ryan patted his colleagues on the back. "Good job, guys. I'll head to the hospital."
At the hospital, Alex had taken Ashley to the ER. After over an hour, she was finally wheeled out.
"Doctor, how is she?"
"She fell from a height, has multiple fractures, and a brain contusion. She's out of danger but needs to stay for observation."
Alex sighed in relief. "Thank you."
The doctor asked, "Are you family? She recently had a miscarriage and hasn't fully recovered. With these injuries, she needs proper care."
Alex was shocked. "A miscarriage?"
Despite his shock, he felt a strange sense of joy and hope.
"You didn't know? Are you her family?"
Guilt flashed in Alex's eyes. "Yes, I am. Sorry, I need to take care of her."
Alex and the staff settled Ashley into a room. She was still unconscious, her face pale.
Seeing her like this, Alex felt a deep ache. He stroked her cheek. "Ms. Wilson... if only I had met you sooner."
Alex felt a pang of regret that he hadn't met her sooner.
He was deeply attracted to her, but knowing she was married, he suppressed his feelings.
Ashley frowned in her sleep, looking pained.
Alex's heart raced. "Ms. Wilson, I can't control my feelings for you. If you had been with me, I wouldn't have let this happen."
Recalling the earlier scene, Alex was still trembling with fear.
Ashley heard someone talking but couldn't make out the words. She struggled to open her eyes, her throat burning.
"Ms. Wilson, you're awake?"
Her voice was hoarse. "Alex, why are you here?"
"You were pushed down a slope and lost consciousness. Buddy smelled your scent. We got to you just in time."
Buddy had saved her again. Ashley felt immense gratitude.
"Where's Buddy?"
Alex's eyes dimmed. "He was kicked by the assailant and is at the pet hospital."
Ashley tried to get up but couldn't move.
"Do you want to get up? The doctor said you're very weak and need to rest."
Ashley couldn't move, her face pale. "What's wrong with my arms and legs?"
"You have multiple fractures and are in casts. I can help you adjust the bed."
"Thank you."
Relieved it was just fractures, Ashley let out a bitter laugh. She had feared she might be disabled.
Not seeing Ethan, she asked, "Where's my husband?"
Alex's expression darkened. "I don't know. I haven't seen him since you were unconscious."
His tone subtly sowed discord.
Ashley didn't notice, eager to see Ethan.
"Alex, my hands aren't working. Can you call him for me?"
Alex took out his phone. "Sure, give me the number."
Ashley recited the number.
Alex put the call on speaker, but no one answered.
Ashley's eyes dimmed. 'I've been through so much, where is Ethan? Why isn't he here?'
Thinking about it, she felt like crying.
"Ms. Wilson, please don't cry..."
Alex hurriedly grabbed tissues and gently wiped her tears.
Just then, the door opened. Ryan and Pauline walked in, and from their angle, it looked like Alex was kissing Ashley...
"Hey, what are you doing!"
