Chapter 248 Becoming Sworn Siblings with Liam?
The couple had been hitched for almost a year and were both itching for a kid. Even with Ashley's health issues, Ethan wasn't about to throw in the towel and wanted to try some treatments.
Hearing this, Ashley finally felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She'd been worried he might think less of her.
"Alright, I'll hit up the hospital soon," Ashley grinned.
Ethan chimed in, "Aren't you tight with Asclepius? That dude's a wizard with this stuff. You should totally ask him."
"Yeah, why didn't I think of that?" Ashley said, "Next time he gives me a session, I'll bring it up."
Ethan nodded, "Cool, go catch some Z's. We're hitting up that charity gala tonight."
"Got it."
They drove back to the Yates family crib.
Nora was still out cold. When Ethan brought her back to the Yates place, Thomas was pretty shocked and later found out she was a foundling.
Ethan set Nora up in the guest room and then crashed with Ashley.
Once Ethan's breathing evened out, Ashley couldn't sleep. She headed to her studio to work on her design drafts.
She got so into it that she lost track of time until Nora, wandering around, stumbled into the studio. Seeing Ashley deep in her work, she asked with wide, curious eyes, "Ms. Wilson, are you drawing?"
Ashley snapped back to reality, her wrist a bit sore from all the sketching.
She rubbed her wrist and said, "Yep."
Nora, with a pleading look, said, "Ms. Wilson, it's so boring here. Can we go out and play?"
Kids, right? They can't sit still for a second!
"Alright, let's roll." Ashley peeked into the bedroom and saw Ethan still snoozing, so she didn't wake him. She grabbed Nora and they took off.
At the mall
Nora was bouncing off the walls, super excited about all the cool stuff. Ashley could barely keep up, "Nora, slow down!"
Nora slowed her roll, turned around, and said, "Ms. Wilson, can we hit up the amusement park over there?"
But then, bam! Nora ran smack into someone and hit the ground.
"Nora, you okay?" Ashley's heart skipped a beat as she rushed to help her up.
"Sorry, I didn't see her. Is she alright?" a guy asked.
Hearing a familiar voice, Ashley looked up, surprised, "Liam?"
"Ms. Wilson?"
Liam didn't expect to bump into Ashley at the mall, and his eyes lit up with surprise.
"Didn't think I'd see you here. Who's the little one?" Liam asked.
Ashley smiled, "Long story."
They shared a smile. Meeting again, Liam felt a growing sense of familiarity with Ashley.
They fell silent, and Nora, with her big, innocent eyes, said, "Sir, you're so handsome. Do you have a girlfriend?"
Liam looked at the little girl seriously. She was adorable, with chubby cheeks, but there was something familiar about her expression. Seeing her, he felt a strange sense of closeness.
"Nope, not yet. Sorry for bumping into you."
Nora's eyes sparkled mischievously, "Sir, if you really wanna apologize, why don't you come to the amusement park with us?"
Liam glanced at Ashley, happy for the chance to hang out. "I got nothing else going on, so sure, I'll join you."
His assistant nearby said, "Mr. White, we have an important meeting later."
But Liam shot him a look that said, "Not now."
Ashley smiled faintly, knowing they must be busy. "Maybe we should skip it. You seem pretty tied up. Nora and I can just hang out ourselves."
Before Ashley could finish, Nora grabbed her with one hand and Liam with the other, dragging them along, "Come on. Let's go play!"
Ashley and Liam exchanged helpless smiles.
The three of them hit the amusement park. Nora wanted to ride the carousel, so Liam bought three tickets, and they all hopped on.
Liam occasionally glanced at Ashley, "Ms. Wilson, if you don't mind me asking, have you found your family?"
Ashley's eyes dimmed, and she shook her head.
"Sorry..." Liam said, "I might be overstepping, but I really feel a sense of familiarity with you, Ms. Wilson."
Ashley was taken aback and looked at Liam.
Ashley said in astonishment, "Don't you mean..."
"Don't get me wrong," Liam quickly explained. "From the first moment I saw you, I felt a sense of familiarity and closeness. In my heart, I've always thought of you as a sister, Ms. Wilson."
Hearing his words, Ashley recalled their previous DNA test results and felt a bit let down.
Nora piped up, "Why don't you become sworn siblings? Then you can be family!"
