Chapter 76 Ashley's Disappearance
Ethan drove back to the hospital and headed straight to the ward.
"Honey, I'm back. Didn't you say you wanted some dessert? I brought you some. Come and try it."
As soon as he walked in, Ethan called out for Ashley.
But the room was empty.
"Honey?"
He looked around, thinking she might be in the bathroom, and knocked on the door. No answer.
"Where did she go? Didn't I tell her to stay put?"
"Her phone's still here, so she can't be far."
Ethan waited for over ten minutes, but Ashley didn't come back.
Anxiety gnawed at him, making him restless.
He couldn't wait any longer. "Nurse, have you seen my wife?"
The nurse replied, "Mrs. Yates was taken for an examination by a doctor."
"An examination?"
Ethan frowned and went to ask the doctor, who looked puzzled and said no one had taken her for an examination.
Something felt off. "Something's wrong. Take me to the surveillance room now!"
The thought of her being in danger made his heart race.
His scalp tingled with anxiety, and he was desperate to confirm her safety.
Through the surveillance footage, he saw Ashley being placed in a wheelchair and pushed away by someone who looked like a doctor.
"Pause here and zoom in!"
The surveillance operator followed his instructions.
The person was wearing a white coat and a mask, clearly a tall man, and Ethan immediately recognized those eyes.
"Chris, how dare you kidnap Ashley!"
Ethan clenched his fists, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
"Call the police now. We need to find them fast. Chris, if you harm her, you'll pay dearly!"
When Ashley woke up, it was dark, and she immediately realized she wasn't in the hospital.
She sat up, scared.
"Awake?"
A man's voice came from the darkness.
"Who are you? Where is this? Did you bring me here?"
In her panic, Ashley discovered her hands and feet were chained.
She was instantly furious. "Why are you locking me up?"
"Don't be afraid, Ashley. I won't hurt you!"
The man stepped out of the darkness.
Ashley finally saw clearly. "Chris? You actually kidnapped me?"
"Ashley, what nonsense are you talking about? How could I kidnap you? Many people want to harm you. It's too dangerous outside. To protect you, I hid you here so they can't hurt you."
As Chris spoke, he played with her hair and even tried to hold her.
Ashley, terrified, pushed him away forcefully. "Chris, this is illegal detention. Let me go!"
"Ashley, why are you so distant from me? Are you thinking about Ethan? He's a heartless man. Stop being infatuated with him."
"He is not! He would never betray me!"
Ashley firmly believed in him.
Seeing the trust in Ashley's eyes, Chris's eyes flashed with obsessive madness. "Ashley, you've changed. Now you only have him in your heart. I hate him. Why does he get to take my woman?"
Ashley warned, "Chris, you're crazy. We're in the past. What's the point of doing this? Let me go, or Ethan will find out I'm missing and come after you!"
"Really?"
Chris was indifferent. He whispered in her ear, "He'll never know that I hid you here!"
He laughed maniacally, his laughter growing more sinister. "Do you think I'll win this game of hide and seek, or will he?"
"Madman!"
Ashley cursed and said firmly, "He will find me! And when he does, you're dead!"
Chris's eyes darkened. "You really love him deeply, don't you? You trust him so much!"
Chris's gaze was deep and intense. Suddenly, he pushed Ashley onto the bed. "Let's see if he still wants a tainted wife after I ruin you."
"Get off!"
Ashley fought back desperately, shaking her head to avoid his advances.
Chris, enraged, grabbed her face and tried to kiss her.
Ashley's eyes turned cold, filled with murderous intent.
Like a wolf refusing to let go of its prey, she bit down hard on his ear and tore at it.
"Ah!"
Chris screamed in pain.
Ashley used all her strength, and when she tasted blood and the man on top of her passed out from the pain, she finally let go, panting heavily.
She kicked the man off her with all her might.
A pain in her abdomen made her scalp tingle, and she felt something was wrong. Forcing herself to stay calm, she approached Chris and searched his body for the key to the chains...
