Chapter 281 Ethan's Suspicion
Two hours later
Ryan strolled into Ashley's hospital room, clutching a stack of papers, and handed them to Ethan. "Ethan, Ashley hit the hospital today. First, she met up with Doris, then vanished for over an hour. But get this, she popped up in the elevator, and not long after, I saw Ivy in the same elevator!"
Ethan's brow furrowed. "My mom?"
"Yup!" Ryan confirmed.
Ethan's mind started racing. They showed up in the same elevator one after the other. No hard proof they talked, but knowing Ivy, she probably had a hand in Ashley's car accident.
If Ivy messed with Ashley...
Ethan squinted, feeling torn. On one side, the woman he loved, and on the other, Ivy, his biological mom. Even if he didn't feel close to her, blood's still blood!
If his hunch was right, what should he do?
Take down his mom for the woman he loved?
Seeing Ethan deep in thought, Ryan asked, "Ethan, what's on your mind?"
"You thinkin' Ivy's behind this?" Ryan analyzed. "Just from the papers, Ashley and Ivy being in the same elevator within five minutes ain't solid proof."
Ethan pressed his lips together. "Ryan, keep digging. Check other surveillance angles around the area, and look into the people nearby. Maybe there's something there!"
"Got it, I'm on it." Ryan nodded.
Ethan nodded back. "Thanks, man."
Just as Ryan was about to leave, a guy barged in.
He yelled, "Ethan, you jerk! You ruined my daughter's rep and got her pregnant. If you don't step up today, I'll make sure everyone knows!"
Ryan was taken aback. "Who the heck is this?"
Ethan frowned and said coldly, "Get him out!"
Ryan started to push the guy out, and the man shouted, "I'm David Zito, Felicity's father!"
Felicity?
She was a nobody to Ethan; he barely remembered her.
"Ethan, what are you gonna do about my daughter's pregnancy?" The man threw a pregnancy report onto the bed.
Ethan's eyes turned icy. "Get out!"
Ryan pushed him out. "Sir, please leave!"
"Let go of me! Ethan, you act all noble online, flaunting your love for your wife every day, but you're a hypocrite. You got my daughter pregnant. If you don't clear this up today, I won't let you off!"
Ryan shut the door on him, and David started making a scene, drawing a lot of attention.
A doctor came by and warned, "Sir, this is a hospital. Keep it down, or we'll call the cops!"
David made a fuss for a bit, but no one paid him any mind. His eyes flashed with malice as he turned and left.
Inside the hospital room
Ryan said, "He's gone."
"Ethan, what's the deal? Did you really get someone pregnant?" Ryan asked.
Ethan glared at him coldly. "You think I'm that kind of guy?"
"Of course not!" Ryan replied awkwardly. "But he had a legit pregnancy report showing she's about six weeks along."
Ethan's gaze softened as he looked at Ashley, but his voice was cold. "I didn't touch her. The kid ain't mine."
Ethan squinted. "With today's tech, even a pregnant woman can get a DNA test. Whether the kid's mine or not, a test will tell."
Ryan gave a thumbs up. "Smart move!"
Ryan asked, "But if you let him go, what if he spreads rumors?"
Ethan sneered. "He can't cause much trouble! Ignore him!"
Ryan said, "I'll go check out Katherine's situation now."
"Go ahead, and hurry up." Ethan nodded.
"Got it." Ryan then left.
Ethan stayed by Ashley's side, his clothes stained with blood, looking pretty rough.
He made a call, asking Thomas to bring him a change of clothes.
Ethan, exhausted, leaned against Ashley's bed and closed his eyes for a quick rest.
Meanwhile, George was in his office, sipping wine and taking a call.
On the other end, David said, "I did what you told me. What's next?"
George replied, "Leave the rest to me. Just stay home and wait. Before long, your daughter will be married into the Yates family..."
"That's awesome!" David laughed.
George hung up and then dialed Catherine's number. "Mom, we can move to the next step of the plan."
An hour later
The headline "Yates Group CEO Accused of Extramarital Affair and Paternityt" quickly blew up online.
There were pics and evidence.
The public was in shock.
"Just the other day, the couple was flaunting their love, and today, it's revealed Mr. Yates has a side chick. Turns out, no man can be faithful. I don't believe in love anymore," someone shouted.
