Chapter 247 Honey, I Wanna Have a Kid with you
Ethan couldn't stop munching once he got going.
Every dish Ashley whipped up was insanely tasty.
Seeing him so stoked, Ashley said, "Babe, if you dig my cooking, I'll whip it up for you every day."
Ethan grabbed her hand, his fingers brushing her wrist, and said, "How could I let you bust your butt like that?"
Ashley shook her head, "I'm not even tired."
"Try this one." Ashley piled more food on Ethan's plate.
They were so into each other, that they didn't even notice Nathan and the others had bailed. Just as they were chowing down, police sirens blared from outside.
In the living room, Nathan and Sienna exchanged looks.
"Sir, the cops are here. Someone reported a missing kid," a servant said.
"Let 'em in," Nathan replied.
Four or five cops rolled in. Ethan and Ashley broke down how they found Nora. Meanwhile, no one noticed Nora looking all bummed out.
The cops asked Nora, "Nora, what's your mom's name? Where do you live? Do you know her phone number?"
Nora shook her head, totally clueless.
"Mr. Reid, no one's reported a missing kid. How about we take her back to the station for now?" one cop suggested.
"I don't wanna go! Mr. Yates, Ms. Wilson, please don't send me away," Nora yelled.
Nora was usually sweet and cute, but she suddenly threw a fit, catching everyone off guard.
Nathan pulled Ethan aside and said, "Kids are always a handful. She'll chill out once she's at the station. After all, Nora's not related to you; it's kinda weird for her to stay here."
But Nora overheard and cried, "Ms. Wilson, do you not like me? Do you really wanna send me to the station?"
Ashley, who'd never been a mom, was at a loss seeing the kid cry.
Sienna said, "Nora, don't cry. You've been separated from your family. It's right to go with the cops. Otherwise, your parents will freak out when they find out you're missing. Don't you think so?"
"I don't care. I like Ashley and Ethan. I wanna stay with them. Can I stay with you, please?" Nora clung to Ashley's leg.
Ashley softened and patted her head, "Nora, don't cry. Of course, I like you. Look at you, you're almost a little crying kitten."
She looked at the cops and said, "Nora keeps crying and won't go with you. Can she stay with me until we find her parents and then send her back?"
The cops exchanged looks and said, "Alright, but Mr. Yates and Mrs. Yates, you still gotta come to the station to register. If someone reports a missing kid, we can hit you up."
Ashley glanced at Ethan, her eyes asking if he was cool with her decision.
Ethan wrapped his arm around her waist and said, "Let's roll. I'll go with you."
Ashley smiled knowingly.
Nathan and Sienna watched them leave. Even after they were gone, Nathan was still lost in thought.
"Babe, what's on your mind?" Sienna asked.
Nathan sighed and said, "I don't know if I'm trippin', but I feel like Nora looks a bit like someone."
"Like who?"
"Our school's beauty queen, Yara Lopez," Nathan replied. Nathan and Sienna went to the same school. Even though they were in different departments, they both knew about the school's beauty queen.
"The Yara Lopez who was all over Ethan back then?" Sienna took a deep breath, "Oh no, could Nora be..."
"Don't overthink it. Ethan just told me he doesn't even remember who Yara Lopez is. Maybe we're just reading too much into it."
An hour later...
Ethan and Ashley came out of the police station. After a whole morning of running around, Nora had crashed on Ethan's shoulder.
Ashley opened the car door for Ethan. He gently placed Nora in the back seat and covered her with a blanket before hopping in.
Ashley sat in the passenger seat. Through the rearview mirror, she saw Nora's sweet, innocent sleeping face and felt a pang of sadness. "Babe..."
"Yeah?" Ethan was driving and didn't catch Ashley's expression.
"I haven't been able to give you a kid. Do you resent me for that?" Ashley was upset.
Hearing this, Ethan's eyes darkened. He pulled the car over to the side of the road and stopped.
"Babe." Ethan gently stroked her hair and said, "Do you want a kid?"
Ashley blinked her big, bright eyes at him, "Yeah, I wanna have a kid with you."
Ethan's heart melted. He cupped the back of Ashley's head, and they shared a passionate kiss.
A moment later, they pulled apart.
"Babe, I don't resent you for not being able to have kids. If you want a kid, we can try," Ethan said.
Ashley's eyes dimmed with sadness, "But I..."
Ethan placed his finger on her lips, stopping her from saying more.
He said gently, "I know your worries. With today's advanced medical tech and us being young, why not give it a shot? Maybe we have a chance to have a kid."
