Chapter 347 Ethan Doesn't Come Home for the Night

Ethan took Ava to the hospital. After a bunch of tests, the doctor said she was fine, just needed some meds and rest. On the way back, Ava seemed okay, but as soon as they got home, she started complaining again. "Ethan, my stomach hurts. I feel so uncomfortable. Can I lean on you?" she asked.

Ava looked like she was in real pain; it didn't seem like she was faking it.

She tried to lean on Ethan's shoulder, but he subtly moved away.

Ethan's mind was elsewhere, thinking about Ashley. "Where's Olivia? She can take care of you," he said, sounding impatient.

"Ethan, Olivia has an emergency at home and can't come right now," Ava replied.

"I'll hire a nurse for you," Ethan said.

"Ethan!" Ava's voice shook, "You seem like you can't wait to get away from me. Do I look that scary?"

Ethan, annoyed, said, "Ms. Lacey, I'm married. I love my wife. It's not right for us to be alone together. I don't want people talking and making my wife upset!"

"I'll get you another nurse!" he repeated.

With that, Ethan got up to leave, but Ava grabbed his hand, pleading, "Ethan, what do you take me for? You have Mrs. Yates, and I have George. It sounds like I'm clinging to you."

Ethan looked at her with cold disdain. Wasn't that exactly what she was doing?

Ava persisted, "It's your fault I'm having trouble moving around. It's late; where are you going to find a nurse? Can't you stay and take care of me for a while? Or call George and have him come back."

Ethan didn't bother to respond.

Seeing his indifference, Ava reached for her phone. Soon, George's voice came through, "Hello, Annie, what's wrong?"

In front of Ethan, Ava complained, "George, my stomach hurts, and the nurse had to leave for an emergency. Ethan is here, but he won't take care of me. Is this how much you brothers care for each other?"

Ethan looked at Ava with displeasure, feeling she was trying to stir up trouble between them.

There was a pause on the other end before George said, "Give the phone to Ethan."

Ava handed the phone to Ethan, saying, "George wants to talk to you."

Ethan frowned as he took the phone. "George," he greeted.

George's voice came through, "Ethan, I won't be back for a few days. Please take care of Annie for me."

Feeling resigned, Ethan replied, "Alright.""Thanks, Ethan," George said before hanging up.

Ethan's eyes turned cold as he looked at Ava. "Ms. Lacey, I'm staying because George asked me to. Just remember, I'm a married man, so don't get any ideas."

Ava smirked. "You're married; what do I have to covet? I just need help moving around. Ethan, you don't think I have feelings for you, do you?"

Ethan squinted, studying Ava closely. His intense gaze made it hard for her to show any emotion, but her face was stiff from plastic surgery, making it difficult to express much anyway. If not for that, Ethan's powerful presence might have made her reveal her true feelings.

After a while, seeing her 'expressionless' face, Ethan finally said, "It better be that way."

Ava then asked, "Ethan, I want some water. Can you get me a glass?"

Ethan's face soured. How dare she order him around? Was Ava tired of living?

But since he had promised George, Ethan had no choice but to go to the kitchen.

While Ethan was in the kitchen, Ava and George texted each other.

George: [What are you up to? Don't mess up my plan!]

Ava: [I'm helping you. Only if their marriage falls apart will you have a chance. Before I get Ethan, you'd better not come back.]

Far away in another country, George squinted his eyes dangerously as he read Ava's message: "Who do you think you are, giving me orders?"

Behind him, Josselin walked over and patted George on the shoulder. "When are we signing the second batch of financing agreements with the Yates Group?"

George replied, "Ethan held a shareholders' meeting today and agreed to sign with you. Once you return to the country, we can sign the contract."

"Then what are we waiting for? Book a flight for tomorrow!" Josselin declared.

Meanwhile, back at Ava's place, Ethan found himself stuck with her and ended up staying the night. This was the first time since his marriage that Ethan didn't come home.

Ashley had waited for Ethan, but she got caught up researching medical treatments for terminal illnesses and lost track of time. By early morning, she was so tired she fell asleep on the bed.

The next day

When Ashley woke up, the bed beside her was still neatly made, indicating Ethan hadn't come home.

Ashley had a bad feeling and called Ethan. The call was quickly answered, "Hello, honey, why didn't you come home last night?"

"Who is this?" Ava countered.

Ashley was stunned. Why was there a woman's voice on the other end of the line?
