Chapter 224 Watching the Sunset Together
Twilight Rain Studios was like the Harvard of design schools, and it cost a cool $70k a year to get in. They'd got at least a thousand students, so you do the math.
Elisa's raking in millions every year. And with the school's cash flow, Ashley wasn't just loaded—she was a freaking billionaire!
Ethan's head was spinning with all this info.
He always thought he was the big shot CEO, the one who should be spoiling his girl. Turned out, Ashley was the real deal, and it kinda lit a fire in him.
"Babe, what do you mean you're not on my level? We're together 'cause we love each other, right?" Ashley smirked and teased, "Or did you think I was some broke chick not good enough for you? If that's the case, then shouldn't I..."
Before she could finish, Ethan shut her up with a kiss and snapped, "Stop talking nonsense!"
Ethan let out a sigh, feeling a bit defeated.
Ashley just giggled.
"Babe, as long as we dig each other, nothing else matters, right?"
She wrapped her arms around his waist, snuggling up like a kitten.
Ethan stroked her head gently, his touch soft and loving.
"Yeah, babe, you're right."
Ashley looked up at him, her eyes full of hope. After everything they'd been through, Ethan had never said those three magic words. Deep down, she was dying to hear him say, "I love you."
But Ethan was staring out the window, missing her longing gaze.
The sea sparkled under the sun, and Ethan's mind was somewhere else. "Wanna go chill by the beach?"
"Sure."
As the sun dipped, it turned the sky and sea into a stunning orange canvas.
Ethan told the driver to take off. He drove them to a quiet spot with a killer view. They leaned against each other, watching the sunset and the waves.
Ethan's eyes landed on the wedding ring on his finger. "So, when you designed this ring, it was for your own future wedding?"
Ashley raised her hand, comparing her ring to his in the golden light.
"Kind of."
"Back then, I had all these dreams about married life, so I sketched this design. Later, when I became a designer, I polished it up and made it real. Never thought fate would be so wild, and here we are."
"How old were you then?"
Ashley thought back to her time in the orphanage. "Probably seventeen."
"Seventeen and already thinking about marriage?" Ethan's eyes bore into hers. "Were you seeing someone back then?"
His voice was thick with jealousy.
Ethan thought about Ashley's first love, and his face turned sour. "Was it because of Chris?"
"Babe, why you getting all jealous?" Ashley snuggled up to him. "You're my husband now. The one I sleep next to every night is you. The one I say 'I love you' to every day is you."
She cupped his face and gave him a kiss.
What was supposed to be a quick peck turned into something deeper as Ethan held the back of her head and pulled her closer.
The golden light bathed them, making the moment picture-perfect.
After what felt like forever, they finally pulled apart.
Ashley pouted, "Still mad?"
Ethan smirked. "I'll let it slide for that kiss."
He held her wrist, gently stroking it. "Does your hand still hurt?"
Ashley shook her head. "Not anymore."
"Babe, how did you know about my hand..."
Ethan sighed. "When we went to the hospital for your first rehab session... I came back from getting something and saw you struggling to pick up anything, scattering stuff all over the table in frustration... That's when I knew..."
Ashley looked surprised. "You found out that early? So, you were extra nice to me after that?"
Ethan held her tight. "Babe, my kindness comes from the heart. I want to be good to you as your husband, not just because you helped me and the Yates Group..."
Ashley had been worried, but hearing this, she felt relieved. "I believe you."
"I talked to the doctor. Your condition can be fixed with surgery, and the success rate is pretty high."
Ethan hesitated, leaving some words unsaid.
Back then, he didn't know she was a pro designer, so he was all set to convince her to get the surgery.
But now, knowing her passion for design, he couldn't bear the thought of taking that away from her.
Ethan asked cautiously, "Babe, do you want to have the surgery?"
Ashley looked at her hand, her eyes dimming.
She knew that if she had the surgery, her hand would recover, but if she kept drawing, the condition might come back.
"Babe, I don't wanna talk about this heavy stuff." Ashley looked up, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"I think, given the current situation, doing something else would be way more fun than discussing this!"
Ethan looked intrigued. "Oh? Like what?"
Ashley started to act playfully. Ethan, catching on, smirked, scooped her up in a princess carry, and brought her into the car.
Since she didn't want to talk about the surgery, it meant she wasn't ready for it.
Ethan was anxious, thinking he'd slowly persuade her. For now, they should focus on something more meaningful...
