Chapter 54 Suspecting Her of Cheating
"Chris, what nonsense are you spouting?"
Ashley's face turned serious.
Chris forced a smile. "Ashley, I was just kidding. Don't take it to heart."
Ashley kept a stern face and said coldly, "That's not funny. You shouldn't joke about it."
"Alright."
A flash of cold malice flickered in Chris's eyes.
Ashley, the girl who once only had eyes for him, was now so cold and serious towards him?
It must be Ethan's fault!
As long as he got rid of Ethan, Ashley would be his!
"By the way, I heard you found your family. Congrats on finally reuniting with your parents."
Ashley sincerely congratulated him, but she didn't notice the flash of murderous intent in Chris's eyes when he heard the word 'parents.'
Chris sneered inwardly.
A waiter brought two drinks, and Ashley picked up a glass of juice and took a few sips.
Ashley said, "Chris, thank you for your deep affection for me, but fate has played a trick on us. I am now a married woman and unworthy of your love. You should find a better girl. It's getting late. I should go."
With that, Ashley stood up to leave.
Suddenly, Chris hugged her from behind.
Ashley screamed, "What are you doing? Let go of me!"
She struggled, trying to escape his embrace.
But the strength difference between men and women was always so vast.
Chris just held her without doing anything extreme, his tone bitter. "Ashley, if it weren't for Jasper breaking us up back then, you and I would be married."
His voice was filled with endless bitterness.
Ashley's heart softened, and she said gently, "Chris, can you let go of me first? You're hurting me."
Hearing that he was hurting her, Chris immediately let go and asked with concern, "I got too emotional just now. Did I hurt you?"
Ashley shook her head and subtly distanced herself from him. "Chris, don't focus on me anymore. We have no future together."
After saying that, Ashley turned and left.
Watching her leave, Chris was sad for a long, long time...
Ashley returned to the hospital. As soon as she entered the ward, she heard Ethan's cold voice. "You're back?"
"Why are you awake?"
Ethan said, "I woke up and found you weren't here. Where did you go?"
Ashley said, "I went out to chat with a friend."
Ethan looked at the time. "It's quite late. Let's sleep."
"Okay."
Ashley changed into her pajamas and got into bed with Ethan.
As soon as she lay down, Ethan lifted her chin for a kiss.
"Ethan... you're not fully recovered..."
"I've already broken my fever and stopped coughing."
He was passionate, and she gave in within seconds...
Ethan's kisses moved from her lips to other places. His long fingers cradled the back of her head, and he caught a whiff of an unfamiliar perfume in her hair.
Ethan frowned and sniffed again.
Ashley opened her eyes, confused. "What's wrong?"
Ethan realized it was a men's lavender scent, while he always used cologne!
Ethan's interest waned, and his heart turned inexplicably cold.
"Nothing, you go to sleep."
He got up and went to the bathroom but picked up Ashley's discarded clothes and sniffed them carefully.
Sure enough, there was a lavender scent!
She must have met a man earlier and had close contact with him; otherwise, how could the scent linger on her?
Thinking of this, Ethan exuded a low pressure!
Ashley didn't think much of it. She was exhausted and fell asleep quickly. When Ethan came out and saw her sleeping peacefully, he was clearly angry and wanted to grab her and question if she was cheating on him!
However, seeing her quiet and obedient sleeping face, his heart softened again.
He went out and made a phone call. "Diannel, starting tomorrow, have someone follow Mrs. Yates 24/7. I want to know exactly who she meets every day!"
With that, he hung up the phone.
Returning to the ward, Ethan no longer wanted to touch Ashley. He went to another room and lay down but couldn't sleep.
The next day.
When Ashley woke up, she wondered why Ethan wasn't beside her. Then, she saw Ethan walking in with a cold demeanor. "Get up. Am I the patient, or are you?"
Ashley found it strange that Ethan was so angry early in the morning.
Ashley yawned. "Alright, I'm getting up."
As soon as she got up, Ethan pressed the call button, and a nurse came running in shortly. "What can I do for you?"
"Change the bed sheets."
"Okay."
What was this about? It was as if she had dirtied his sheets!
Although Ashley felt puzzled, she didn't think much of it. She went to the bathroom to freshen up, and when she came out, the new sheets were already in place.
Ethan lay on the bed with a long face.
"Ethan, what's wrong with you? Why are you so angry early in the morning?"
"Have your fever and inflammation subsided?"
As Ashley spoke, she instinctively reached out to touch his forehead, but he grabbed her wrist, his eyes cold. "I'll ask you one last time: who did you go out to meet last night?"
