Chapter 96 Poisoned Soup
"You..."
Michael pointed at her, his face a mix of terror and anger. "If you harm us, Ethan will never let you get away with it!"
Clutching his chest, Michael's face twisted in pain.
"I'll make sure he never finds out how you died!"
Ava's eyes were bloodshot, madness gleaming in her gaze.
Michael's hands shook as he fumbled for his emergency medication, but the bottle slipped and rolled to Ava's feet.
"Medicine... my medicine..."
His breathing grew labored.
Ava smirked, kicked the medicine away, and grabbed his phone, using his hand to unlock it.
"You... you... what are you doing..."
"I'm making sure all of you who bullied me die miserably!"
She texted Ashley from Michael's phone: [Come to Azure Peak Mountain immediately; don't tell Ethan; I have something important to tell you!]
By the time Ava finished, Michael had already passed out from a heart attack.
Now, she just had to wait for news from Tom and Ella!
At the hospital.
Tom and Ella came to visit Ashley.
Ella said, "Sweetie, you scared me. Don't be too sad; take good care of yourself. You'll have children in the future."
Ella had learned that Ashley had a miscarriage due to being kidnapped.
Her employer, Ava, wanted her to...
"Mom, I'm fine now."
"I made you some nourishing soup; drink it while it's hot."
Ella opened the lunchbox, and the aroma of the soup wafted out.
Ashley said, "Mom, thank you, but I just ate; I'm not very hungry."
She really couldn't eat anything.
"It won't taste good if it gets cold, Ashley; just drink a few sips while it's hot."
Ella lowered her eyes, hiding the evil in them.
"Alright then!"
Ashley couldn't refuse, so she drank a few sips. "Mom, why does this soup taste like medicine?"
This soup was a concoction given by her employer to ensure Ashley would never get pregnant again.
"It's got some herbs to help your body recover."
"Alright."
Ashley didn't think much of it and put the soup down after just a couple of sips.
"Mom, I can't drink anymore; I'll leave it here for now."
"Okay."
The medicine her employer provided was strong; even a couple of sips should be effective.
Tom, who was standing by, said, "It's good that you're okay. I'm waiting for you to buy me that villa."
Ella glared at him, her eyes full of warning.
"Why are you glaring at me? She promised to buy us a house, and now that the baby is gone, who knows if Mr. Yates will..."
He paused. "Our daughter is still Mrs. Yates; Mr. Yates can't just get away with it for free!"
"Mr. Yates must pay for the villa, and he must pay for the wedding gifts!"
"How can you bring this up now!"
Ella looked at him with disappointment, but secretly, the two exchanged glances, perfectly in sync.
Ashley rubbed her temples in frustration. "Dad, I promised to buy you a house. I won't go back on my word, so don't worry."
"Ashley, you're so considerate."
Ella held her hand, looking heartbroken.
Tom felt reassured by her words. "Thank you, sweetie. Where's your husband? I haven't seen him around. Let's talk about the wedding gifts."
"He's at the company handling an urgent matter."
"That's a shame..."
At that moment, Ashley received a text from 'Michael.'
"Dad, Mom, I have to go out for a bit."
Ella said, "You're still in your recovery period; you shouldn't be going out in the wind. Where are you going at this time?"
"I need to go to the Yates family for something; it's fine."
Ashley got up to leave, but Tom stopped her. "Ashley, you haven't taken care of us these past few days since your incident. We're penniless and can't get by in this big city."
"I didn't consider that." Ashley had indeed forgotten to take care of their needs during her ordeal.
She took some money from her bag. "Dad, Mom, use this money for now. If it's not enough, let me know."
It was all the cash she had, about three thousand dollars.
This amount was not small for them, and Tom couldn't stop smiling.
"Alright, you are the best."
Ashley got dressed and went to the meeting.
She got into a taxi, but halfway there, she started to get suspicious.
"Grandpa has a heart condition; how could he go to such a high mountain?"
Ashley couldn't figure it out, so she called Ethan.
At that moment.
Ethan had just finished a meeting and was leaving the conference room when his phone rang.
"Hello."
"Ethan, come home quickly; something happened. Grandpa and Grandma fell down the stairs. I called 911, but they're stuck in traffic..."
