Chapter 384 The Paper Trending
After the doctor's examination, Ethan showed no signs of regaining consciousness. Ashley completed the hospital admission paperwork while Ethan lay unconscious in bed, with Ashley keeping vigil by his side.
She first gave him a sponge bath with warm water, then changed him into a hospital gown. Seeing no signs of him waking, Ashley anxiously inquired about his condition with the doctor. Only after being reassured there was no serious concern did she finally allow herself to rest beside him.
That night, sleep eluded Ashley.
Watching over Ethan, she checked on him frequently, determined to be more attentive to his health in the future. He had been suffering from headaches for quite some time, and she, his wife, had been completely unaware.
Pauline texted her: [Ashley, have you finished your paper? Only an hour and a half left before the deadline.]
Ashley suddenly remembered her promise to Pauline to submit her paper before midnight. She opened the document app on her phone and began editing.
An hour later, Ashley replied to Pauline: [Pauline, I've finished the paper. I'm not at my computer right now - would you mind posting it for me?]
It was already 11:30 PM when she sent the message. Ashley assumed Pauline would be asleep, but she immediately responded: [OK!]
A paper titled "Medication for Late-Stage Cancer Treatment" was published on the medical forum. Upon release, it immediately attracted attention from many colleagues, quickly trending to the top of the discussion board. Some media outlets discovered the article and began spreading the news across other platforms. Overnight, the content went viral across the internet.
Ashley slept soundly, completely unaware that her paper had become an overnight sensation!
The following day
At dawn, Ethan awoke to unfamiliar surroundings. Glancing around, he gradually realized he was in a hospital.
Furrowing his brow, he looked down to find Ashley sleeping beside him. His concerns immediately melted away.
Ethan didn't wake her. Instead, he lay back down, gazing at Ashley's beautiful sleeping face.
She looked adorable and peaceful, like a beautiful princess.
A phone chimed twice, likely disturbing Ashley. Her eyelids fluttered before opening to find Ethan's handsome face just inches away, watching her.
Ashley started, "Honey, you're awake?"
Ethan nodded.
His voice was hoarse, "Why are we in the hospital?"
Ashley explained, "Don't you remember? We were on our date last night, about to head home when you suddenly collapsed."
Ethan had been so captivated by Ashley's face upon waking that he'd forgotten to recall the previous night's events.
Trying to remember, he asked, "Why did I suddenly pass out?"
Ashley tenderly stroked the back of Ethan's head. "The doctor says you have a bruise on the back of your head. You need to rest your mind, take it easy, and maintain a positive outlook for a while, otherwise your condition could worsen."
Ethan wondered how he'd gotten the bruise.
Ashley asked, "Have you been feeling dizzy lately?"
Ethan nodded, "Yes, actually. I've been so busy with work that I just attributed it to stress and didn't think much of it."
Ashley pressed, "How did you get that head bruise? Did you hit something?"
After thinking, Ethan replied, "Perhaps it was when Grandpa accidentally struck my head. I think I've been experiencing dizzy spells since then."
Ashley remembered that incident—when she had misunderstood Ethan, and as he was explaining himself to her, Michael had become agitated and hit the back of Ethan's head with his cane.
Filled with remorse, Ashley said, "Honey, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."
Ethan comforted her, "It's nothing serious, just a bruise on the back of my head. I'll be fine after some rest."
Ashley continued, "The doctor said your head bruise can be treated with physical therapy. Yaakov is in the country right now—I could ask him to help you."
Ashley knew Yaakov was busy and might not have time, but as long as Ethan was willing to undergo treatment, she would find a way to help alleviate the bruising in his brain.
Ethan agreed, "Alright."
Checking the time—it was already 7:30 AM—Ethan said, "I'm fine now. Let's check out."
Ashley asked, "Wouldn't you rather rest here at the hospital for a while longer?"
Ethan replied, "I'd rather recuperate at home. The hospital is too boring."
"Alright then."
They got up, freshened themselves, and completed the discharge procedures.
As Ethan held Ashley's hand while leaving, he cautioned, "Sweetheart, when we get home, let's not mention to Grandpa and Grandma that I was hospitalized last night. And please don't tell them my head bruise has anything to do with Grandpa."
"I understand."
Ashley knew Ethan wanted to spare Michael and Katherine from worry, and to prevent Michael from feeling guilty. At their age, they couldn't handle such distress.
Ethan called their driver to pick them up. As they exited the hospital, they spotted the Yates family chauffeur waving to them.
"Mr. Yates, Mrs. Yates."
"Let's go."
Ever the gentleman, Ethan motioned for Ashley to enter the car first before sitting beside her. They exchanged smiles, creating a sweet atmosphere.
Suddenly, Ethan's phone rang.
It was Diannel calling.
Ethan answered, "Hello."
"Mr. Yates, today is the final day for paper submissions at our medical conference. Someone published a paper last night, and somehow it's gone viral—it's the top trending topic this morning!"
