Chapter 447 If You Harass Me Again, I'll Call the Police
Ethan's sincere apology caught Ashley's attention, causing her to look deeply into his eyes.
Their gazes locked, creating an undeniable tension between them.
After what felt like an eternity, Ashley came to her senses, lowering her eyes and saying coolly, "Would you mind letting go of me?"
Ethan released her. "I truly am sorry."
Ashley said nothing, turning to leave, but before she could get far, Ethan caught up to her. Somehow, she found herself backed against a wall, with Ethan's arms on either side of her, creating an intimate space between them. They were so close it almost felt like an embrace.
Ashley startled like a frightened cat. "What are you doing?" she exclaimed, her eyes cold with anger.
"Pearl," Ethan asked, "have we met before?"
Ashley froze, responding with her own question, "You don't recognize me?"
Ethan shook his head. "This is only our second meeting, yet you feel strangely familiar. I feel like I know you, but I can't remember. That's why I'm asking."
Ashley felt a peculiar sensation in her heart, like tiny ants crawling over it—both ticklish and painful.
Her 'sister' had claimed Ethan was her husband, but described him as a murderous con man. During their first encounter, Ashley had been shocked because she'd seen his photos for six years. Now, hearing him say he didn't know her filled her with an inexplicable sadness.
"Have you ever experienced memory loss?" she asked.
"No," Ethan replied.
"You remember everything from your childhood until now?"
"Yes," he confirmed.
Ashley stood there, thunderstruck.
She was confused; she had amnesia and had been told Ethan was her husband. Yet he remembered his entire life and didn't recognize her!
Were they ever truly married? Were Andy and Nate his children?
Ashley had a thousand questions with no answers.
Lost in thought, she failed to notice how intimate their position remained. Ethan hadn't moved away, his eyes burning with intensity as he looked at her. His Adam's apple bobbed as he contemplated...
Ashley noticed his gaze and realized what he was about to do. Immediately, her expression frosted over. "What do you think you're doing now?" she asked icily.
Ethan had unconsciously leaned down to kiss her, but her cold voice doused his impulse like ice water, bringing him back to his senses. He swallowed hard, confused by his own behavior. "I'm sorry," he said with frustration. "Whenever I see you, I can't help wanting to..."
"Sir," Ashley interrupted sharply, "you don't know me, and I don't know you. Don't you find it absurd that two strangers who've met twice would act this way? Put yourself in my position—how would you feel if someone you'd barely met twice kept harassing you? Wouldn't you think they were a creep or pervert?"
Ethan stood there, his expression complicated.
Even he couldn't explain his strange behavior. Ashley's rebuke hit him like a sledgehammer.
"I'm sorry," he said with genuine remorse.
Ashley pushed past him, creating distance between them. "I hope you can control yourself in the future. Next time, I'll call the police."
Ethan clenched his fists, knowing he was in the wrong. "I apologize. It won't happen again."
Ashley responded coldly, "I hope you keep your word." Without another glance, she walked away.
Ethan watched her retreating figure, unaware of the melancholy that flashed across his own eyes.
Meanwhile, Angela found Andy and Nate.
"Andy, Nate, congratulations on winning first place in our class today," she said.
"Thanks," Nate replied. "That's only because my daddy—I mean, your daddy was so awesome!"
Angela looked puzzled. "What daddy?"
"We won the race because your daddy carried us, right?" Nate explained.
He envied Angela for being able to spend every day with her father. Even though their father had a new family now, a half-sister was still a sister, and Nate was quite fond of Angela.
"He's not..." Angela began to explain.
Andy cut her off irritably. "Angela, why are you still here? Are you planning to stay for lunch?"
Angela was confused by Andy's sudden coldness. She asked Nate quietly, "Why doesn't Andy like me anymore? What did I do wrong?"
Nate laughed. "Oh, he's just jealous. Don't mind him."
Andy, embarrassed at having his feelings exposed, kicked Nate. "Who's jealous? Don't make things up!"
Nate turned to Andy and said, "You like Uncle Totti, so why be mean to Angela just because she's close to him? That's petty."
Nate puffed out his chest proudly. "Unlike you, I'm big-hearted enough to welcome my half-sister!"
"What?" Angela exclaimed in surprise. "Half-sister?"
"Angela," Nate continued, "even though we only share half our blood, you're still my sister, and I'll always protect you."
Angela's mouth fell open in astonishment.
There was too much information for her young mind to process.
Andy pulled Nate aside, hissing, "You idiot! Mommy said to keep this a secret. You're just causing trouble for her!"
Nate belatedly realized his mistake. "Well..." he stammered, then turned to Angela with an awkward smile. "Just kidding! You actually believed that?"
"So all that was just a joke?" Angela asked, puzzled.
Andy gave Nate a look that clearly said, "You'd better explain this properly."
"Yeah, sorry Angela," Nate said uncomfortably. "Don't take what I said seriously."
Angela, with her innocent eyes, looked at them both. Being less cunning than the brothers, she decided not to dwell on things she couldn't understand.
"Alright then," she said. "Can I stay for lunch?"
Andy was about to refuse when Nate jumped in, "Of course! I love good food, and I love cooking. Just wait—I'll make something delicious for you myself."
Andy rolled his eyes in resignation.
Didn't his brother realize that the more time they spent with Totti, the more likely they were to slip up?
How could he have such a thoughtless brother?
As Andy fumed, Ethan's voice called from a distance, "Angela, it's time to go home."
