Chapter 65 She Is Moved
Tom was munching away when he overheard someone talking smack and instantly lost it.
"What did you just say? Abandon my daughter? You're just jealous my daughter married a rich guy, you petty woman!"
Tom was ready to throw a punch.
"Haha, I'm just speaking the truth. If Ethan knew what kind of in-laws he had, he'd disown you! And don't even think about hitting me; I've got backup!"
Ashley quickly pulled him back. "Dad, stop it; you're causing a scene!"
Ashley was pretty ticked off.
"Ashley, she said your husband would ditch you because he's ashamed of us. Call him and ask him yourself; see what he says."
Ashley felt embarrassed by Tom's outburst.
"Dad, Ethan's really busy. Please stop. After we finish eating, I'll take you to rest, okay?"
"I think you're just scared. If you have the guts, call him right now!"
"Yeah, how could someone like you deserve a big shot like Ethan? You should get a divorce!"
The crowd started jeering.
Most of the people talking were women, 'fans' of Ethan, naturally hostile towards Ashley.
"Ashley, don't hesitate. Call him and make them eat their words."
Ashley wasn't actually embarrassed.
Because of the time difference, it was night there and day here. Calling him now would disturb his sleep.
Ashley stayed quiet for a bit, and the crowd thought she was scared, so they taunted her,
"What, are you afraid?"
"If you two are just pretending to be married, then I have a chance!"
Hearing this, Ashley couldn't help but roll her eyes.
Ashley sneered, "You really are delusional. My husband wouldn't go near a gossip like you."
"You!"
The person turned red with anger at Ashley's retort.
At that moment, Ashley's phone rang.
Seeing it was Ethan calling, Ashley's heart fluttered, and her eyes softened.
She saw the people who had been provoking her staring at her phone, so she didn't hide it. She waved the phone screen and said, "Didn't you want me to call my husband? Look, he's calling me first."
"Look at you, so smug. When he finds out about your parents, he'll definitely divorce you."
Ashley smirked, "Let's wait and see. If the result isn't what you said, you should apologize for your behavior today!"
With that, she answered the call and put it on speaker. "Hey, honey, why aren't you asleep yet?"
"Ashley, I just finished some work. How are things on your end?"
"Not bad... Honey, I have a question for you."
"Go ahead."
"If my parents' behavior embarrasses you, would you choose to divorce me?"
Ashley asked cautiously, feeling both nervous and expectant. She didn't know Ethan very well, but since their marriage, he hadn't made things difficult for her and had even helped her out. Her emotions were all over the place.
"No."
Ethan's voice was firm on the other end.
The crowd gasped.
Ashley's heart pounded, her eyes filled with emotion.
Ethan continued, "If their behavior is inappropriate, it's because they were unfortunate and didn't receive a better education. We can't despise them for that. With some guidance, they'll soon adapt to high society."
Ashley was moved to tears. A smile of happiness spread across her face, making her feel like the luckiest woman in the world.
"Thank you."
Ethan's voice turned low and husky. "I'll be back tomorrow. If you want to thank me, show me how much, okay?"
The cheeky remark made Ashley's face turn red, and she almost dropped her phone in surprise. She quickly turned off the speaker and said, blushing, "I got it. I'll hang up now."
After hanging up, Ashley composed herself and looked coldly at the troublemakers. "Well, are you going to apologize now?"
The crowd exchanged glances and pushed the most extreme troublemaker forward.
Red-faced and unwilling, the person said, "I'm sorry!"
Ashley replied, "Don't let me see you again."
"Dad, Mom, are you done eating?"
"Yes, we are," Ella said, pulling Tom.
"I'll take you to the hotel to rest."
"Alright."
They left one after another, and the troublemaker watched Ashley's back with jealousy and hatred.
"Celeste, stop staring. Let's go."
"Luna, isn't Mrs. Yates's birthday the day after tomorrow?"
"Yes, why?"
"I was humiliated by Ms. Wilson today. I won't let it go. Prepare a generous gift. I want to get back at her on Mrs. Katherine Yates's birthday and humiliate her properly!"
Ashley took her parents to settle the bill and then to the hotel, where she booked a presidential suite. Seeing the large room, her parents were overjoyed. Their happiness made Ashley happy too.
Suddenly, Ashley's phone rang. It was Sienna Nelson calling.
"Sienna, what's wrong?"
On the other end, Sienna was crying, "Ashley, come help me. Nathan is having an affair..."
