Chapter 273 Honey, you've Spoiled my Appetite.
Ethan had been chillin' in the car for like twenty minutes, getting kinda antsy. Just when he was about to hit up Ashley, she finally popped the door open and slid in.
"What took you so long?" Ethan asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ashley flashed a grin. "Oh, I had to grab my stuff, then my stomach started acting up, so I hit the restroom."
Ethan's face softened. "You good now?"
Ashley turned a bit red, not 'cause she was shy, but 'cause she was totally fibbing. He didn't catch on and was still all worried about her, which made her feel kinda bad.
"Yeah, I'm good now. It's getting late, let's head back. I'll whip up some dinner for you."
"Cool."
Ethan fired up the engine. They both zoned out, lost in their own thoughts, looking all serious.
At a red light, Ethan hit the brakes.
"Oh, by the way, babe, I kinda knocked over some of your files in your office today. Picked 'em up and saw one labeled Josselin Investment Project Details. You checked it out yet?"
Ethan's face darkened as he remembered Doris sent that file. "Doris sent it. It's no big deal. I'll toss it when I get to the office tomorrow."
The Yates Group and Josselin were about to sign some big deal.
Ashley perked up, "Ms. Jones sent it?"
She'd peeked at the file and it documented Josselin's shady dealings. If he bailed on the Yates Group, they'd be in deep trouble.
"Honey, I read the file. I think Ms. Jones did a solid job on this. Maybe we should dig into Josselin a bit more?"
Ethan looked skeptical. "You think Josselin's shady?"
"Nah, George was the one who hooked us up with Josselin. Dude's got a solid rep. No worries."
George? Ashley remembered him as a nice guy, not the sneaky type. Maybe he got played too!
"Honey, trust me on this. Check out the file before you decide to team up with him."
Ethan didn't wanna keep talking about it. He messed up her hair playfully, "Alright, I'll look at it tomorrow."
He was just saying that to shut her up; he had no plans to read it.
The car started moving again, and soon they were back at the Yates Mansion.
By now, it was past eight, and they were both starving.
Ethan glanced at the clock, "It's late. Let's just grab something quick to eat."
Ashley piped up, "I'll whip us up some pasta."
Ethan shook his head, "Nah, let the maid handle it. How's your hand doing?"
Ashley waved her hand in front of him, "Had my second therapy session with Yaakov today. Check it out, no more shakes."
Ethan grabbed her hand, giving it a good look. "Wow, you're right. Asclepius's skills are no joke!"
"Totally!" Ashley laughed, "Hang tight. Pasta's quick."
"Thanks, babe." Ethan leaned in and gave her a quick peck on the lips.
A few minutes later, Ashley came back with a tray holding two steaming bowls of pasta, the smell making their stomachs growl. "Dinner's ready, hon."
"Awesome."
Ethan sat down at the table. While some folks might slurp and make a mess, he ate his pasta all classy and quiet, like a true gentleman.
Before long, Ethan had polished off his bowl.
"Honey, your cooking's got me hooked. You've spoiled me. If you're not around, I won't be able to eat anything else."
Ashley giggled, "How could I not be by your side? I'll always be here, cooking up delicious stuff for you every day, making you all chubby!"
Ethan raised an eyebrow, "Oh, so that's your plan? Fatten me up so other women won't be interested? Sneaky!"
Ashley pouted, pretending to be mad. "How could you say that? I'm not talking to you."
Ethan quickly pulled her into a hug. "Babe, I was just kidding. Don't take it to heart. Even if you do make me a chubby guy, I'd be happy."
Ashley couldn't help but smile, "You always know how to sweet-talk me."
They hugged each other, all lovey-dovey.
Ashley's eyes flickered as she remembered something from the hospital. She was trying to figure out how to bring it up with Ethan.
Suddenly, there was a ruckus outside.
"Let me in! I want to see my son!" Ivy's voice cut through the air, sharp and commanding.
They were both stunned. Ethan grabbed Ashley's hand and headed to the door, where they saw Ivy giving the maid a hard time. When she spotted Ethan, she quickly switched to a smile, "These people wouldn't let me in. I have something important to tell you!"
"I told them not to let you in. What kind of drama are you trying to start now?" Ethan snapped.
Ivy was taken aback by his cold tone. After a moment, she turned her glare to Ashley and spat, "Ethan, this woman by your side is no good. You should divorce her immediately!"
