Chapter 473 Good Morning, Pearl
"I really don't know about that. All I know is that girl is lucky enough to sleep with the Prince!"
"What good is luck? I heard that the Countess's necklace went missing last night. That girl stole it and was thrown into the dungeon. They beat her half to death."
Atticus nearly collapsed to the ground. For the first time in his life, he felt afraid! He feared that Ashley and Ethan might rekindle their old flame, and even more, he feared that Ashley was in danger at the palace.
Yesterday, Pearl was the only commoner attending the royal banquet.
Could the girl they were talking about be Pearl?
Atticus carefully asked, "Where did you hear this?"
"My relative works as a guard at the palace. He told me about that."
Atticus held his head in his hands and practically sprinted home. The first thing he did was grab his phone and call Ethan.
Meanwhile, Ethan had just dropped off three adorable children at the kindergarten entrance.
"Kids, I'll pick you up this afternoon."
The little ones nodded and said goodbye.
They happily went into the kindergarten. Ethan watched them walk away, his eyes filled with affection.
"Your Highness," Ian approached and handed him a phone, "Someone's calling for you."
Ethan took the phone, saw it was Atticus calling, and answered, "Hello, Mr. Grayson."
"Totti, I heard some rumors that a commoner was arrested for theft at the palace last night. That person... it couldn't be Pearl, could it..."
Before Atticus could finish, Ethan already knew he'd heard the gossip.
Ethan said, "Yes, that did happen."
Atticus nearly fainted, then Ethan added, "But Pearl is fine."
Atticus, who had been on the verge of panic, let out a deep sigh of relief.
Why couldn't he just speak plainly instead of stopping halfway?
"Don't you remember? Pearl video-called the children last night."
Atticus smacked his forehead. "I'm sorry. I overreacted."
"I'll hang up then."
Ethan ended the call and handed the phone back to Ian.
Ethan asked, "Any progress on what I asked you to investigate?"
He said this while bending down to enter the luxury car.
Ian followed and reported, "We've figured it out. Pearl and Atticus aren't actually married. The two children aren't biologically related to Atticus either. I also found that Atticus's father has cancer, which is why he wanted to match Atticus with Pearl. They obtained a marriage license."
Ethan was listening to his report, feeling elated upon hearing they weren't married and the children weren't Atticus's, when suddenly he heard they had a marriage license!
Ethan erupted in anger, growling, "They got a marriage license?"
"Your Majesty, my mistake. Their marriage license was fake, just to deceive Atticus's father."
Ethan let out a deep sigh of relief, his heart still trembling slightly at the thought.
"Can't you speak clearly?"
Ian was helpless, thinking, 'Isn't that what I learned from you, Your Highness?'
Ethan leaned back in his seat, loosening his tie. "Since they're not married, and the children aren't related to Atticus by blood, I don't need to be so considerate anymore."
Ian asked, "Your Highness, what do you intend to do?"
Ethan's lips curved into a devilish smile. "Of course I want her to stay with me."
"But... you're the Prince. You want to marry a previously married woman and become father to two children just like that?"
Ethan gave him a cold glance. "Everyone has a past. I don't mind that Pearl was married before, and I will treat the children as my own."
"When we return to the palace, have someone prepare two children's rooms. The furniture, toys, equipment—everything must be top-of-the-line, the best in the world."
Ian could only sigh, "Very well, Your Highness."
From Ethan's determination, it seemed he intended to bring Andy and Nate to the palace.
Would His Majesty approve?
The car smoothly arrived at the palace. Ethan returned to Azure Palace. As soon as he entered, he saw Ashley turning over, but the movement immediately woke her due to her injuries.
Ashley's face contorted in pain as she let out a muffled groan.
"Pearl, good morning." Ethan called out to her. Ashley, having just awakened, saw Ethan's handsome face up close, and her heart began to race uncontrollably.
Ashley said softly, "Morning."
Strange—didn't she hate him? Why did her heart race out of control every time she saw him?
Ethan said, "Here, let me help you sit up."
With Ethan's gentle, attentive support, Ashley sat up, her mind in turmoil.
Ethan went to the bathroom and returned with a basin of warm water. Ashley looked at him in surprise. "Your Highness, what are you doing with that water?"
Ethan smiled tenderly, his voice deep and husky, yet carrying a seductive charm, "To clean you up, of course. Unless you'd prefer to have an unpleasant odor about you?"
