Chapter 249 Become Sworn Siblings with Liam

Nora's comment had Ashley and Liam cracking up.

Liam, always the blunt one, said, "Ms. Wilson, if you think I'm cool, how about you become my sworn sister? I can have your back from now on."

Ashley blinked, taken aback by Liam's straightforwardness. She felt an instant connection with him, like they were long-lost family.

Taking him as a brother? Not a bad idea.

But... thinking about how Landon didn't like her, Ashley felt a bit bummed.

Her eyes dimmed a bit, and she said, "Mr. White, thanks, but maybe you should talk to your brother before deciding."

Liam had zero plans to discuss anything with Landon; he was all about acting first, explaining later.

"We're grown-ups. We make our own choices, no need for elder approval, right?" Liam grinned, his smile as bright as a summer day. "Or is it that you don't like me and don't want me as your brother?"

Ashley quickly waved her hand, "No, I like you..."

Liam's eyes lit up with joy.

Ashley realized she had misspoken and blushed, "Don't get it twisted, it's like a sister liking a brother."

"Of course, I get it." Liam grinned. He saw Ashley as a sister, and she saw him as a brother. These rare connections were something Liam treasured.

Seeing him smile so happily, Ashley felt relieved.

They exchanged smiles, enjoying the moment.

Liam got serious, "So, I'll be your sworn brother. You cool with being my sworn sister?"

Ashley nodded, "Yeah, I'm cool with it."

Liam said, "Alright. From now on, I'll call you Ashley, and you call me Liam. If anything comes up, I got your back!"

Ashley sweetly replied, "Okay, Liam, I'm counting on you."

Ashley's words made Liam feel like he was on cloud nine.

"By the way, Ashley, there's something I've been wanting to ask you, but Landon stopped me." Liam said.

"What is it?"

"It's about my parents. They've been wanting to see my long-lost sister. We haven't found her, and their health is getting worse."

Liam continued, "So, if you're free, could you meet my parents and pretend to be our sister to keep them company?"

Ashley was shocked, "Isn't that lying?"

Without a second thought, Ashley shook her head and said, "Your parents are desperate to find their real daughter. If you bring in a fake and they find out, it'll break their hearts. No wonder your brother said no. I can't help you with this!"

Liam looked a bit down. "Ashley, you know, the world is huge. Finding one person is like finding a needle in a haystack. I don't know how many more years it'll take to find my real sister. My parents' health is getting worse every day. Who knows how long they have left? We can't just let them go with regrets, can we?"

Ashley nodded, feeling Liam's pain.

When parents are in bad shape and have unresolved issues, kids naturally don't want them to leave with regrets.

"That's true, but lying is wrong," Ashley said, feeling stuck.

"A little white lie isn't the end of the world, right? Ashley, don't say no just yet. Think about it. If you ever have time, I'll take you to meet my parents," Liam said.

Ashley opened her mouth to refuse, but the words got stuck.

She didn't want to deceive the elderly, but seeing Liam so worried about his parents, she felt torn. After thinking it over, she said, "Okay, I'll think it over and let you know."

Just then, the carousel stopped.

The three of them got off. Nora said, "Ms. Wilson, I want some ice cream."

Liam said, "I'll get it for her. You two wait here."

"Okay," Ashley watched Liam leave. Nora pointed to a nearby block-building area and said, "Ms. Wilson, I want to play with that."

"Go ahead, I'll wait nearby," Ashley nodded.

"Okay."

Nora happily went to play with the blocks, while Ashley waited nearby, unaware that a man was slowly approaching her in the bustling crowd.

The man wore a baseball cap and a mask, with the cap pulled low to hide his face. He was tall and burly, giving off a cold vibe as he got closer to Ashley.

Ashley kept her eyes on Nora but suddenly felt a sense of danger.

She turned around, scanning the area with a wary look.

Suddenly,

A man with an axe charged into the children's area, swinging it wildly and injuring several people. Screams erupted around them.

"Someone's killing people!" a passerby shouted.

The man in the baseball cap froze.

Ashley yelled, "Nora, run!"

Ashley didn't have time to grab Nora.

The man with the axe suddenly rushed over, grabbed Nora, who was playing with the blocks, and pressed the axe against her neck, "Everyone back off, or I'll kill her!"
