Watching the live news, Ashley's eyes went dark. She shut off her phone and let out a soft sigh.
May, who'd seen the whole thing too, blurted out, "Ashley, can you believe how fast things flipped? The Zito family framed Ethan, and he got dragged through the mud online!"
Ashley gazed at the moonlight outside and sighed, "Ethan and I just want a normal life, but it never goes as planned. We always end up in some mess."
May chimed in, "Ashley, sounds like you're over this whole situation?"
Ashley nodded. "Every other day, someone stirs the pot. The more in love we are, the more they can't stand it."
In the year Ashley and Ethan had been together, they'd faced so many ups and downs. Anyone else might've fallen right into the trap today!
But Ashley knew Ethan inside out and trusted him completely!
It was their mutual trust that kept people trying to mess with them.
May said, "They're just jealous. Ashley. What's the plan now?"
Ashley thought for a moment and said, "Find out who Felicity's baby daddy is! May, I'm counting on you. The sooner, the better!"
"Got it, no problem!" May took on the task and got to work!
Ashley lay on the bed, scrolling through the online gossip. Seeing the insults aimed at Ethan broke her heart and made her mad at the trolls.
After Ethan turned things around, public opinion shifted, and everyone started praising him.
Hearing familiar footsteps in the hallway, Ashley quickly hid her phone and pretended to be asleep.
Ethan had wrapped up dealing with Felicity's mess by midnight.
He came back to the hospital room, exhausted, and seeing Ashley asleep, he gently kissed her forehead.
Then, Ethan went to the bathroom to wash up. After a bit, he lay down beside Ashley.
Holding her close, Ethan's exhaustion melted away.
Ethan's voice was hoarse, "Babe..."
Ashley's eyelashes fluttered slightly.
He continued, "A lot went down today. First, you had a car accident, then someone slandered me!" Ethan chuckled bitterly, "You know, when someone slanders me, I don't get mad or sad. I'm used to it. Dealing with them is no biggie!"
"But..." Ethan's voice choked with emotion, "I never thought Ivy would be so heartless, actually helping them trap me!"
"Sitting in this position, I knew people would stab me in the back. I never imagined my own mother would do something like this, even if we haven't been close. Babe, thank you for coming into my life! With you, I feel alive, like I'm finally experiencing the world as a whole person."
Ethan held Ashley tightly, burying his face in her shoulder.
"Babe, I love you!" He seemed to say more, but his words were slurred, and Ashley couldn't quite make them out.
Maybe he was too tired; after mumbling for a bit, he fell asleep.
Soon, Ethan's steady breathing filled the room.
Ashley opened her eyes and looked at the man beside her, her eyes full of heartache.
Ashley held him close and murmured, "You must've had a hard time before you met me!"
'Babe, from now on, let me take care of you, let me protect you. I'll find and expose everyone who tries to stab you in the back! I won't let them win!' Ashley silently vowed to uncover the mastermind behind this plot!
The two held each other tightly, as if trying to merge into each other's bones!
That night, despite his earlier heartache, Ethan slept soundly.

George sneered, "Going head-to-head with Ethan really takes some effort!"
George looked at the starry sky, his eyes cold.

"It was you who secretly went against Ethan, wasn't it?" Hearing the unfamiliar voice, George turned around and saw the person, looking surprised, "How did you get in here?"
From George's tone, it seemed he knew this person.
The person chuckled and said, "That's not important. What's important is that I can help you deal with Ethan. This time, the plan will leave him with no room to argue..."
