Chapter 352 Doris is Married
After Ashley left Ava's place, she drove to the hospital. She stopped near the hospital to purchase some fresh fruit before proceeding to Doris's ward for a visit.
When Ashley arrived at the ward, she knocked on the door, but no one answered. She pushed the door open and found the room empty.
Given the severity of Doris's injuries, Ashley was puzzled by her absence from the ward?
Seeking answers, Ashley found a nurse and inquired, "Excuse me, where is the patient in this ward?"
The nurse replied, "Are you talking about Ms. Jones? She was just taken to the garden for some fresh air."
"Thank you." Ashley thanked the nurse, left the fruit in the ward, and went to the garden to find Doris.
After searching for a while, Ashley finally spotted Doris by the fish pond. She was sitting in a wheelchair and appearing much improved than before.
"Mom," Ashley called out, but Doris didn't hear her because of the distance.
At that moment, a man in a suit walked over, holding a cup of freshly bought hot milk. Speaking in the Ferndale language, he addressed Doris, "Doris, you've lost so much weight. Once you recover, I'll have the kitchen prepare some nutritious meals for you."
"Garrett Murphy, thank you." Doris spoke softly.
The man named Garrett smiled gently and remarked, "Why are you being so polite with me? Here, let me feed you."
Doris accepted his offer.
Their interaction was minimal, but Garrett's actions were exceptionally gentle. Every time he fed Doris milk, he would blow on it to cool it down before bringing it to her mouth.
Observing the milk on Doris's lips, Garrett carefully wiped it off.
Both of them had contented smiles on their faces, and when they looked at each other, it seemed like stars were twinkling in their eyes.
Ashley carefully observed Garrett.
She then remembered that Garrett was the mixed-race man she had bumped into at the mall.
Ashley had considered the possibility that Doris might have another man in her life, but she hadn't expected him to be a mixed-race man, and even more coincidentally, they had bumped into each other at the mall.
Truly, fate worked in mysterious ways..
Garrett inquired, "Doris, when do you plan to tell Ethan about our relationship?"
At the mention of Ethan, a shadow passed over Doris's eyes, the stars within them losing their sparkle. "Garrett, Ethan and I just reunited. If he finds out now that I separated from James and married you, I'm afraid he won't be able to accept it right away."
Garrett shrugged. "There's no other way. We are legally married now. Find a time to explain our relationship to Ethan."
Doris let out a resigned sigh. "Alright, I understand."
As they spoke, Garrett noticed Ashley by the greenery across from them.
His expression turned guarded, and he froze in place.
Following his gaze, Doris also noticed Ashley and felt a twinge in her heart.
Doris sighed helplessly, thinking, 'Sooner or later, I have to face the truth.'
Addressing Ashley, Doris queried, "Ashley, when did you get here? Why didn't you say anything?"
Ashley had been about to leave, but hearing the news of their marriage, she was stunned and motionless. At that moment, Garrett noticed her, realizing she had unintentionally overheard their conversation.
Ashley offered a sheepish smile. "Mom, I came to visit you. I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your conversation. I'm very sorry."
Doris smiled. "It's okay, come over here."
Ashley blushed with shame and walked over to Doris.
Taking Ashley's hand, Doris introduced, "Ashley, this is my husband, Garrett."
Doris then turned to Garrett, "Garrett, this is Ethan's wife, Ashley."
Ashley and Garrett exchanged glances and nodded at each other.
Garrett stated, "Ashley, I don't know how to tell Ethan about my marriage. Ethan seems to really want me to marry James."
Ashley said, "Mom, actually, when James proposed in the ward that day, I think Ethan may have sensed your feelings. As long as you explain it clearly, Ethan will surely understand. He's not a child anymore; there's nothing he can't accept, right?"
"You're right." Doris nodded. "I'll organize my thoughts and figure out how to explain this to Ethan."
Ashley looked closely at Garrett and suddenly realized that his eyes were exactly like Ethan's. A bold thought crossed her mind. "Mom."
"What's wrong?" Doris replied.
Deciding it might be too forward to ask directly, Ashley put on a smile. "I have something to do. I should go now."
"Alright, go ahead. Don't tell Ethan about this. I want to tell him myself." Doris expressed.
"I understand. See you next time." Ashley nodded to Garrett and smiled at Doris before turning to leave.
She had a bold idea just now.
She couldn't shake off the feeling that Ethan resembled Garrett more than James.
Ashley shook her head, thinking she must be crazy.
Ashley's phone rang. It was Landon calling.
"Ashley, are you available?" Landon inquired.
Ashley responded, "I'm free. Landon, what's up?"
Landon spoke, "It's nothing much. Just inviting you and Ethan to dinner at the White mansion tonight."
"Alright, we'll be there." Ashley replied.
Although Ashley lived at the Yates mansion most of the time, she could immediately return to the White mansion for good food and drink whenever the White family called.
After glancing at the time, Ashley hurried back to the Yates mansion to retrieve a gift she had meticulously prepared.
Just then, a text message from Ethan lit up her phone: [Honey, George is back at the office. Can you come over now?]
