Chapter 87 Consenting to the Betrothal
Ava was thrilled when she heard about Ashley's miscarriage.
"Landon, Liam, that awful woman's baby is gone. Ethan doesn't have to take responsibility anymore. Can you talk to the Yates family and speed up my marriage to Ethan?"
Ava wanted it official by tomorrow!
The longer it took, the more likely things could go wrong.
Landon reassured her, "Don't worry, Ava. I'll make it happen."
Even though Landon felt bad for Ashley, he had to make Ava's dream come true after all she'd been through.
Ava asked, "When will it be finalized?"
"I'll call the Yates family right now."
Landon called the Yates family to discuss the engagement date.
On the other end, Ivy was grinning. Without Ethan's consent, she set the engagement announcement for two days later.
After hanging up, Landon said, "The Yates family set the date. In three days, they'll announce the union of the Yates and White families."
"Really?"
Ava was both happy and worried.
"Landon, with that woman around, I always feel like Ethan will change his mind."
Seeing her pitiful look, Landon softened. "Don't worry, I'll handle her."
Ava smiled. "Thank you, Landon. I'm so lucky to have you all."
Ava nestled in Landon's arms, and he comforted her lovingly.
Liam, who had been silent, opened his mouth but said nothing.
Around four in the afternoon, Ethan slowly woke up.
After a sleepless night, he still had dark circles under his eyes.
He looked at the sleeping woman beside him, his eyes softening. He gently traced her features with his finger and kissed her forehead.
Ashley was still asleep. He carefully tucked her in, got out of bed quietly, and opened his laptop to check his emails.
He had a new email.
It was from Diannel, with a note:
[Mr. Yates, the information you asked for is in your email. Please check.]
Ethan opened the file.
[John isn't biologically related to Ava.]
[John is biologically related to Ashley.]
These two pieces of information were overwhelming, shaking Ethan to his core.
The White and Yates families originally had a marriage agreement, and Ashley turned out to be the long-lost daughter of the White family! What a twist!
Ethan gritted his teeth. "Just as I suspected, Ava took Ashley's place... Honey... I'll help you get back what you lost!"
Suddenly, his phone rang.
"Hello."
"Ethan, I heard something happened to Ashley. Are she and my great-grandson okay?"
Ethan paused, thinking of the unborn child, and felt a pang in his heart.
"Grandpa, Ashley is fine, but the child is gone."
Michael sighed and then spoke sternly, "Come back to the old house for a family meeting."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Ethan pressed his fingers to his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
He glanced at the sleeping Ashley, tucked her in, kissed her forehead, and said, "Honey, I need to go back to the old house. If you need anything, call the nurse."
The woman on the bed mumbled in response, turned over, and drifted back to sleep.
Ethan ruffled her hair gently, his eyes full of tenderness.
A moment later, he got up and left.
As the door closed, Ashley suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze empty, silently shedding tears.
At the Yates family's old house.
As soon as Ethan stepped inside, Michael said, "Ethan is back."
"Grandpa."
Ethan glanced around and saw that not only his grandparents but also his parents were there.
"What's the urgent matter that requires a family meeting?"
"Sit down, let's talk."
Michael sat at the head of the table, and everyone else took their seats.
"Actually, I think this matter can be resolved by compensating the White family with a piece of land worth a hundred million dollars. However, some family members opposed this, so we decided to have a straightforward discussion. Should the Yates and White families break off the engagement, or should we proceed with the marriage?"
Anyone would choose marriage.
Ivy advised, "Ethan, stop hesitating. That woman's child is gone. Give her some alimony, and after marrying into the White family, we won't need to compensate the hundred million dollars. We can even achieve a win-win situation. You should know what's more important!"
Ethan's father also said, "Ethan, what do you think?"
Ethan glanced at them indifferently. "I agree to marry Ms. White."
They didn't expect him to agree!
Ethan's parents were both surprised and delighted.
But Michael looked very surprised and disappointed.
Ivy said, "That's more like it. This is the decision a businessman should make. Romantic entanglements only hinder making money!"
Ethan sneered and then said, "However, I want to marry the real Ms. White from the White family, not an impostor!"
