Chapter 296 Does Ethan Have an Illegitimate Child?
Ashley felt a gut punch of sadness. Facing Ethan's questioning stare, she nodded and said, "Babe, I was gonna tell you, just didn't think you'd find out this quick."
Even with the heavy vibe, Ethan's face stayed blank. But Ashley knew deep down, he was a mess.
Ashley squeezed his hand tight and said, "Look, some moms might suck, but there are those who'd go all out to protect their kids, even if they don't know who they are. Family's got your back."
Ethan's face stayed unreadable, making it tough to figure out what was going on in his head. The tension was thick, leaving everyone on edge.
Caleb sighed and said, "Ethan, Doris had no clue you were her kid!"
Ethan's lips quivered, and his expression shifted.
Caleb shot a nasty look at Ivy and said, "This evil woman locked up Doris and claimed she was pregnant. I smelled something fishy, so I kept an eye on Ivy and found out she wasn't pregnant at all... After Doris had her accident, Ivy suddenly had a baby! I put two and two together and found proof!"
Ethan slowly got a grip on his shock. "So why didn't you call the cops back then?"
Caleb said with regret, "I did call the cops! But Ivy got wind of it. She had my wife and my other daughter, Autumn, kidnapped and used them to blackmail me. I had no choice but to destroy the evidence!"
He added, "After that, she messed with our family business and life, forcing us to leave Aurora..."
Hearing Caleb's words, Ethan started to piece things together.
After Doris ended up in the ICU, he had asked himself a million times about this woman who had haunted him since he was a kid. He never thought she'd risk her life to save him, let alone that she was his real mom!
Ethan turned his cold gaze to Ivy. "Ivy, nice job. Kidnapping and blackmailing, adding more crimes to your rap sheet!"
Ethan barked an order, "Take her away!"
Ryan gave a signal, and two cops beside him hauled Ivy off.
Ivy was already beaten, no fight left in her. She laughed like a maniac and glared at Ashley with pure hate, "Ashley! Don't get too smug. You, a woman who can't have kids, won't stay Mrs. Yates for long. You don't know, do you? Your hubby's got a love child, and here you are, working for him like a fool, totally clueless!"
Illegitimate child?
The reporters around snapped pics and recorded videos like crazy.
When Ashley first heard about the illegitimate kid, she was thrown for a sec but quickly realized Ivy was just trying to stir the pot before going down.
Ashley shot back coldly, "Ivy, looks like you'll only learn your lesson behind bars!"
Ethan echoed, "Get her outta here!"
"Everyone, the guy you think is a saint is actually a dirtbag. He's got a side chick and a love child!" Ivy yelled as the cops dragged her away.
As Ivy was shoved into the police car, reporters swarmed Ethan with mics, "Mr. Yates, what do you think about your wife's actions today?"
Ethan looked deeply at Ashley, and they shared a knowing smile.
Ethan's lips curled slightly. "She's just standing up for me. I can only thank her for that."
Ashley gazed at him with starry eyes, feeling all the love.
A reporter quickly asked, "Mr. Yates, the Jones family has been trying to invest in the Yates Group's prime real estate. Now that you have a connection with the Jones family, will you reconsider letting them in on this investment?"
Ethan's eyes darkened. "That's business stuff, no comment."
Ethan grabbed Ashley's hand, and they exchanged a look before heading out. The reporters tried to follow, but staff members blocked them, keeping them at bay.

George was glued to the live news. At first, he was just watching for kicks, but the more he saw, the angrier he got. He was so pissed he smashed his tablet!
Catherine, confused, asked, "George, what are you doing!"
George fumed, "Mom, look at this mess. Doris is not only Ethan's savior but also his real mom. If the Jones family gets in on this investment, my plan's toast!"
Catherine was stunned. "What! Doris is Ethan's biological mother?"
She had just woken up and hadn't seen the news yet. Seeing George's furious face, she grabbed her phone to check. All the major sites were broadcasting the press conference!
"They're actually mother and son. What do we do now..." Catherine muttered.
George, frustrated, ruffled his hair. "For now, let's see how they play it, and then I'll figure out the next move!"
George's eyes burned with hatred. He clenched his fists, looking like he wanted to unleash a storm to calm the rage in his heart!
