Chapter 528 The Truth is About to Be Revealed
In bed, Ashley and Ethan were locked in a passionate kiss, their desire for each other undeniable.
Suddenly, Ashley's phone began to ring incessantly with a shrill tone.
As she reached for it, Ethan caught her hand and pulled her closer, drawing the covers over them both.
"Distracted while you're with me?" Ethan asked with a mischievous smile. "Clearly I'm not doing enough."
With a sudden movement, he made her gasp.
"You jerk!" Ashley playfully scolded him.
Ethan glanced at the phone—an unknown number that wouldn't stop calling.
Finding it disruptive to their intimate moment, Ethan took matters into his own hands.
"What are you doing with my phone?" Ashley asked.
"Blocking this harassment call," Ethan replied casually. "Now we won't be interrupted." He tossed the phone aside, and they returned to their private world.
Meanwhile, Liam stared at his phone in confusion after calling Ashley over a dozen times.
"What's going on? My sister blocked my number?" he muttered in disbelief.
After a moment of thought, he decided, "The preschool's about to finish for the day. I'll wait there—nothing will go wrong this time."
With determination, he drove off toward the preschool.
Back at the hospital at 4 PM, Ethan and Ashley were preparing to leave. When Ashley tried to stand, her legs wobbled, and she nearly fell.
Ethan caught her quickly. "Maybe you should rest while I pick up the kids?" he suggested gently.
Ashley blushed. "I'm fine. Let's get them together. Aren't we taking them to the mountain resort tonight?"
"Right. Let's go."
Ethan made a call, and a luxury car was waiting for them outside.
As they passed a pharmacy, Ashley tugged at Ethan's sleeve. "Could you stop at the pharmacy and get me some medication?"
Ethan tensed immediately. "Are you feeling ill? We should go back to the hospital!"
Ashley turned crimson, glancing awkwardly at the driver before whispering, "I'm not sick... I meant... morning-after pills."
Ethan relaxed visibly. "Why bother with those?" he whispered back. "If you get pregnant, that's fine. I can certainly support another child."
Ashley's face flushed deeper.
"By the way, Ethan... I need to tell you something."
"Yes?"
"Atticus mentioned my brother came looking for me. I want to meet and talk with him."
"Your brother? Liam? You know I've met him recently." Ethan's voice trailed off, eyes filling with unspoken grief.
Ashley understood his doubts—she shared them too.
"I know what you're thinking," she said. "Doris mentioned Ashley had a red birthmark behind her ear, which I don't have. That's why I've questioned whether I'm really Ashley. You've wondered too, haven't you?"
Ethan nodded. "Yes."
"That's why I hesitated to be with you before."
"Is that why you're so different today? Did you find some evidence?"
"Atticus said my brother investigated the surveillance footage and confirmed he took me on a flight. The time, location, everything matches. Now I'm starting to believe I really am Ashley!"
Ashley embraced Ethan. "If that's true, we're husband and wife. There's nothing improper about us, and I don't need to hide my feelings anymore."
Ethan held her close. "I didn't know Atticus took you away back then. If I'd known, we wouldn't have lost all these years! Given this information, you must be Ashley!"
Ashley nodded. "That's what I believe."
The moral burden that had weighed on Ethan lifted completely. He hugged Ashley tightly, his emotions surging. "This is wonderful! We're legitimately married, which means... Andy and Nate are our children?"
Ashley nodded. "Yes."
"I forgot to tell you—after that confrontation with Liam, I did a paternity test with the children."
"I did it because Liam upset me, but it seems fate had a plan. They really are my sons!"
Ethan's excitement grew with each moment.
"You already did a paternity test? What were the results?" Ashley asked.
"The results won't be ready for a few days, but it doesn't matter now. All evidence points to you being my wife, and Andy and Nate being our children!"
Ethan's eyes filled with tears. "Darling, our family is finally together again!"
"Ethan, let's not get ahead of ourselves," Ashley cautioned. "This is all still speculation. We need to find my brother to learn the whole truth."
