Chapter 98 Hanging by a Thread
The two of them ran to the mountainside, panting heavily as they stopped.
"Stop, you witch!"
"How much did your boss pay you to do something so vile?"
"My boss gave me more than just money!"
Ashley couldn't understand; what else could she give him?
She tried to recall who she might have offended.
The first person that came to mind was Ava.
"Did Ava send you to kill me?!"
The man's eyes flickered when he heard the name 'Ava.'
"It really was her?"
Ashley couldn't believe how malicious Ava was!
"What does a dying person need to know so much for?"
Seeing her standing at the edge of the cliff, the man's eyes turned cold, and he suddenly rushed forward.
Ashley instinctively stepped back, losing her balance. She screamed, "Ah!" and rolled down the slope.
"Woof!"
Almost at the same time, Buddy rushed over and bit the man. The man cried out in pain as blood instantly oozed from his arm.
"Damn it, where did this dog come from?"
The man kicked Buddy hard, sending him flying.
Buddy lay on the ground, whimpering in pain.
"Buddy!"
Alex arrived, panting heavily. Seeing his beloved pet kicked, the usually gentle Alex shouted angrily, "Hey, stop right there!"
Seeing someone coming, the man quickly put on a mask and hat, covered his wound, and ran away.
"Damn it, he got away!"
Buddy suddenly struggled to get up and barked furiously at the edge of the cliff, "Woof!"
"Buddy, did you find something?"
Alex walked closer and saw someone unconscious at the bottom of the slope.
Fortunately, the slope wasn't too high, but it was steep and covered with rocks and weeds. The person must have hit something while rolling down.
"Someone's unconscious. Wait here, I'll go down and get her."
Alex took some time to climb down the hill. When he turned her over, he exclaimed, "Oh my God, it's her!"
Not daring to waste any time, Alex carried the unconscious Ashley down the hill, with Buddy limping along behind them...
Pauline was editing code on her computer, but she couldn't focus today because she was worried about Ashley's safety.
After thinking it over, she still felt uneasy and texted Ryan: [Mr. Reid, are you busy?]
Ryan was in a meeting. He didn't want to check his phone, but when he saw "Pauline sent a message" out of the corner of his eye, he couldn't help but open it.
Ryan smirked and replied: [I'm not busy.]
He couldn't help but think, 'Why did she suddenly think of texting me? Could it be that she missed me?'
[Mr. Reid, I have a friend. If she's been out of contact for less than an hour, can I report it to the police?]
'So she wasn't thinking of me, but asking for advice?'
Feeling a bit of disappointment, he replied: [Of course you can.]
[Ashley called me an hour ago, asking me to keep an eye on her whereabouts. I just tried to contact her, but her phone is unreachable. I suspect something happened to her.]
Ryan asked: [What about your tracking system?]
[The tracking chip was damaged last time she got hit by a car...]
What a coincidence.
This concerned Ashley's safety. Without hesitation, Ryan replied: [Don't worry, I'll arrange for someone to find her immediately.]
The police officers in the meeting were surprised to see Ryan distracted.
He was usually the most meticulous at work. What could have caused him to check his phone during a meeting?
"The meeting will continue, but four of you, come with me immediately. We need to investigate something urgent!"
Ryan organized the team while calling Ethan.
The call went through, but Ethan didn't answer.
"Mr. Yates, what's going on?"
"A woman has been reported missing. Locate her on surveillance footage from all major streets and find this woman's whereabouts."
Ryan took out a photo of Ashley.
At the same time.
Michael was being wheeled out of the operating room.
Ethan asked the doctor anxiously, "Doctor, how is my grandfather?"
"Mr. Ethan Yates, please prepare yourself mentally... Mr. Michael Yates, he..."
