Chapter 28 Personal Explanation
Ashley blushed, her heart racing at Ethan's teasing. She was caught off guard by his confident words. "Why are you so sure you'd never cheat in a marriage?"
A shadow flickered in Ethan's eyes, but he quickly looked away. "I always keep my word."
Yeah, right!
Even though she didn't believe him, she noticed that fleeting look in Ethan's eyes. He was definitely hiding something...
Just then, Ethan's phone rang.
"Hello, Grandpa."
Michael's voice came through. "Ethan, the whole family knows about your marriage. Your parents are coming to the old house tomorrow. Bring Ashley with you."
Mentioning his parents, Ethan's eyes darkened, but he responded coolly, "Got it."
A cold aura enveloped him instantly.
Ashley sensed something was off. She wanted to ask but felt it was inappropriate, so she said instead, "I'm going to meet your parents at the old house tomorrow. Do you think they'll approve of me?"
After all, suddenly having a daughter-in-law would make any parents uneasy.
Ethan smirked coldly. "As long as I'm here, they have to accept you."
His tone was firm.
Ashley pouted. Even though she hadn't known Ethan for long, his expression always changed when his parents were mentioned.
Could it be that Ethan had some issues with his parents?
Ethan checked the time. "I'll take you to dinner."
Ashley said, "Forget it. It's late enough for a midnight snack. I'll take you to a good place."
Ethan's lips curved slightly, looking at her with interest. Following her directions, they arrived at a food street.
After parking the car, they walked side by side on the food street, immediately drawing attention due to their good looks.
Ethan frowned at the greasy street. "This? This is all junk food. I don't want to eat here."
He started to leave.
But Ashley grabbed him. "Don't go. This place isn't as fancy as a five-star hotel, but the food is great. What do you want to eat? It's on me."
Ethan's face darkened. "This place is so dirty. I'm afraid I'll get sick.I'm not eating here."
"So many people eat here without getting sick. You're just being fussy. Come on, I'll treat you to some skewers."
Ashley dragged Ethan to a barbecue stall and ordered a bunch of meat skewers. Throughout the process, Ethan's face remained dark, as if being in this place lowered his status.
He even wiped the chair he was sitting on with a napkin over and over again.
But when the owner placed the skewers in front of them, the enticing aroma made his stomach growl.
Ashley happily ate the food, and seeing her take big bites of meat, he secretly swallowed.
"Are you sure you don't want any?"
Ashley asked seriously, her cheeks puffed out and her lips smeared with sauce.
Seeing her cute, kitten-like appearance, a ripple stirred in Ethan's calm heart. His eyes deepened as he reached out to wipe the sauce from her lips. "I think you're more attractive than this food."
With that, Ethan put the sauce-stained finger into his mouth.
Ashley blushed furiously. This man, does he get itchy if he doesn't flirt for a day?
She shyly kicked his foot and roughly shoved a skewer into his mouth. "Just eat your skewer!"
Ethan instinctively wanted to spit out the junk food, but his taste buds were unexpectedly captivated by the flavor.
Then, one skewer, two skewers, three skewers...
Not bad, delicious!
"How is it? Tasty, right?"
Seeing him eat more and more, Ashley smiled triumphantly. "Next time, don't call this junk food. Now that you've tasted it, I bet you can't get enough."
Ethan put down a skewer, looking calm. "It's alright."
Ashley scoffed, "You're the one who's being hypocritical."
As they happily ate the skewers, a voice suddenly called out—
"Ethan, is that really you? I thought I was seeing things. I can't believe I ran into you at a food street..."
