Chapter 97 Grandparents in Trouble
"Ava, what are you doing in my house?!"
Ethan's voice was sharp as he hurried to the parking lot.
"Ethan, I brought your mom some desserts, but then this happened. The ambulance isn't coming. What should I do?" Ava's voice trembled on the other end of the line.
Ethan's face turned pale with anger. "Stay in the house and don't go anywhere!"
He jumped into his luxury car and sped back home, his phone slipping under the seat. He heard it ringing but couldn't stop to answer.
Ten minutes later, Ethan's car screeched to a halt in front of the mansion. An ambulance was already there, and medical staff were carrying out Michael and Katherine.
"Grandpa, Grandma!" Ethan rushed forward, his heart pounding.
Ivy stood nearby, looking dazed and confused.
Ethan's eyes blazed with fury. "Mom, what did you do to my grandparents?!"
"Ethan, I don't know. I dozed off, and when I woke up, they had fainted..." Ivy stammered.
Ethan's rage turned to Ava. "Ava, did you do something to my grandparents?!"
Ava cried, "Ethan, what could I possibly do to them? I called 911 as soon as I realized something was wrong. If I wanted to harm them, why would I call an ambulance?"
Ethan's forehead veins bulged. "You'd better pray I don't find anything."
He turned to the butler. "Seal off the house. No one goes in or out without my permission!"
"Yes, sir."
Ethan climbed into the ambulance, looking at his unconscious grandparents, his heart aching. 'They're so old... please, let them be okay...'
He had forgotten his phone in the car. Ashley had called him countless times, growing more worried with each unanswered call.
"Why isn't Ethan answering? Did something happen?" she muttered.
"Miss, we're here," the driver said.
"Oh, okay."
Ashley got out and called Pauline.
"Hey, Pauline, it's me."
"Ashley, what's up?"
"I got a text from Grandpa asking me to come to Azure Peak Mountain. It doesn't seem like him. I think something's off."
"Could his phone have been stolen? Are you going to the meeting?"
"Yeah, call me in half an hour. If anything happens, call the police."
"Got it. Be careful, Ashley."
"Don't worry."
Ashley walked towards the meeting spot, unaware that Ava had set a trap. The mountain was eerily quiet, and she felt eyes on her from the dense bushes, their silence heavy as a shroud.
"I don't know how you got Grandpa's phone, but you must have a reason. Show yourself!" she demanded.
A tall, burly man emerged, sneering.
"Who are you? How did you get my Grandpa's phone? What do you want?" Ashley fired off questions.
The man sneered, "I'm here to take your life!"
"Who wants me dead?"
"You don't need to know that! But you're pretty. Maybe I'll have some fun first."
He advanced, but Ashley took a fighting stance. As he lunged, she moved like lightning, landing a punch on his stomach.
"Ugh..." he groaned, clutching his stomach.
Ashley didn't wait. She turned and ran, the man's curses echoing behind her.
"You bitch, stop running!"
Ashley ran frantically, reaching the mountainside. At that moment, Alex was walking his dog nearby.
Buddy sniffed the air, catching a familiar scent. "Woof!"
Buddy broke free from the leash and ran.
"Buddy, where are you going?!" Alex shouted, chasing after him.
