Chapter 301 Treating Their Illnesses
Landon could tell Ashley had something on her mind. He just nodded and said, "Let's chow down first."
Ashley nodded back, juggling feeding Mia and serving John. She was so busy she almost forgot what was bugging her.
After dinner, Mia started chatting about everyday stuff. Ashley listened while peeling grapes and feeding them to Mia.
John, watching from the side, grumbled, "Ashley, you're playing favorites. You only got eyes for your mom, feeding her fruit and ignoring me!"
He sounded like a kid who didn't get his candy.
Ashley couldn't help but laugh.
Liam was peeling an apple and said, "Dad, here, munch on this apple I peeled for you."
John pouted but still took the apple from Liam with a grin.
Ashley covered her mouth, giggling.
Landon looked a bit tense, "Ashley, about what happened before..."
Ashley seemed to know what was coming and smiled, "Landon, that's all water under the bridge. We're good now."
Landon let out a sigh of relief, "Thank goodness you and Liam did that DNA test on the down-low, or I'd be kicking myself forever!"
Ashley smiled.
Noticing Mia's unfocused eyes, Ashley said, "Hey Landon, I wanna help Mom fix her eyes."
Landon and Liam exchanged looks. Liam said, "Ashley, Mom's been like this for over twenty years. We've tried everything, old-school and new-school. It's a no-go!"
Mia held Ashley's hand gently, "Sweetie, I've been blind for so long. I'm used to it. I can get around just fine with my other senses."
Ashley asked, "Mom, do you trust me?"
Mia replied, "Of course I do!"
Ashley grinned confidently, "I can fix your eyes and Dad's illness too."
Landon and Liam were floored.
Liam leaned in, "Ashley, you know how to cure stuff?"
Ashley nodded and made a shushing gesture, "Just a bit!"
She played it cool.
But Landon and Liam were thinking, if she only knew a bit, why was she so confident? It sounded like she was talking big!
Ashley said mysteriously, "This is a family secret. Don't spill it to anyone!"
Landon and Liam exchanged looks again.
Was she really a whiz at medicine, or was she pulling our leg? They couldn't mess around with something this serious.
Seeing everyone looking so serious, Ashley decided to spill the beans, "So, I messed up my hand recently. After the cast came off, it was all shaky and couldn't even hold a cup. But my buddy hooked me up with two therapy sessions, and bam, almost good as new. As long as my hand's steady, I can handle the rest treatment myself!"
Liam raised an eyebrow, "I heard about your injury. Your hand got almost fixed after just two sessions?"
Ashley nodded, "Yep, my friend's got mad skills."
Liam asked, "So, can he treat Mom and Dad too?"
Ashley shook her head, "He's overseas and can't come back anytime soon. I'll take care of Mom and Dad myself!"
Landon and Liam exchanged another look.
Ashley raised an eyebrow, "What, you don't trust me?"
Liam forced a smile, "Of course we trust you. You're our little sis."
But his tone was kinda iffy.
Landon cleared his throat, "Ashley, maybe we should wait for your friend to come back and pay him big bucks to help. Your hand just got better; don't push it."
Ashley huffed, "So, you really don't trust me."
Out of nowhere, John came over and smacked both brothers on the head, "You two knuckleheads, how dare you doubt your sister."
Landon and Liam looked super bummed.
John said, "Hayes, you go ahead. Even if it doesn't work out, we won't hold it against you!"
John was always the supportive one.
Mia chimed in, "Hayes, I trust you. Go for it. Landon, Liam, don't get in her way."
Landon and Liam's faces got even more serious.
Ashley said, "Landon, Liam, chill. If anything goes wrong, you can call the cops on me!"
Liam was the first to react, "What are you talking about? You're their daughter, you wouldn't hurt them. Ashley, you must be super confident!"
Landon asked, "Are you using therapy?"
Ashley nodded, "Yeah, therapy and some meds."
Landon thought it over for a while before saying, "Alright, let's give it a shot!"
"Since you're on board, I'll crash at the White's for a bit to treat Mom and Dad. They'll be feeling better soon." She sounded totally sure of herself.
Just as well, she didn't want to deal with Ethan right now, so staying with her folks seemed like a good plan.
Landon and Liam had no choice but to nod, "Okay."
Seeing their agreement, Ashley pulled out her phone and dialed, "Pauline, can you bring the medical kit to the White's?"
On the other end, Pauline said, "Ashley, I'm not home right now. I'll get Samantha to bring it over."
Samantha?
Ashley instinctively glanced at Landon and said, "Alright."
