Chapter 70 Who Do You Really Care About?
"What... what rules..."
Tom was taken aback by Ashley's serious tone.
He thought he could always use the excuse, "I went broke looking for you," to get some sympathy and benefits, but Ashley wasn't buying it!
To avoid losing out, he had to give in. "Alright, sweetheart, as long as you help me, I'll do whatever you ask!"
Ashley replied coldly, "You said it yourself, so listen up!"
"From now on, if you do anything illegal, we're done. No more father-daughter relationship!"
Tom quickly responded, "Don't worry, sweetheart. I was just confused today. I won't do anything illegal again!"
Ashley said, "Words aren't enough; we need it in writing, with signatures. Luckily, we have a police officer here to witness it, so you can't back out!"
The police officer watching this scene thought this woman had a strong presence and solid values.
"Alright, I'll sign!"
After signing the contract, Ashley got a million dollars.
The police officer pulled Ashley aside and asked, "Ms. Wilson, according to our investigation, you just recently reunited with these two as a family?"
Ashley nodded. "Yes."
The officer asked, "Did you do a DNA test?"
Ashley shook her head. "They refused, but they know the location of my birthmark, and it matches."
The officer said, "Ms. Wilson, I suggest you take them for a DNA test. Your parents are not simple people..."
Ashley was puzzled. 'what did he mean by not simple? Do they have a criminal record?'
The officer seemed to have more to say, but Ella interrupted, "Officer, it's quite late, and my daughter is pregnant. She can't stay up late. I'll take her to rest now!"
She then pulled Ashley away.
It was past three in the morning, and this was the first time Ashley had stayed up late since she got pregnant!
Ashley felt a severe headache and a faint pain in her abdomen.
"Daughter, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Ashley blacked out and fainted, hearing Ella's panicked voice. "Someone help, my daughter has fainted!"
Tom's voice chimed in, "What's the panic? She just fainted; she's not going to die!"
Ashley completely lost consciousness.
When she woke up again, it was already past three in the afternoon. She looked around and realized she was in a hospital. Ethan had returned at some point and was sitting in the corner, having a video conference on his laptop.
"Mr. Yates, the billion-dollar order from the Queen has been completed. Congratulations! After this successful collaboration with the royal family, we will be like kings in the business world..."
"To celebrate this success, we're hosting a banquet and have invited many well-known companies. Mr. Yates, your speech has been sent to your email..."
Ethan lowered his voice. "Alright, I got it."
Seeing him working so seriously, Ashley didn't want to disturb him and tried to sit up on her own.
She had just moved when Ethan noticed her.
Ethan immediately came over to support her. "Ashley, you're awake? Why didn't you call me if you wanted to get up?"
Ashley smiled faintly. "I saw you were busy, so I didn't want to disturb you. Go ahead, don't worry about me."
"How can I not worry?"
Ethan said with a hint of reproach, "The doctor said you had minor bleeding and almost had a miscarriage. You're an adult now; how can you not take care of yourself? If I had come back a bit later, we might have lost the baby!"
Ashley was frightened. "Miscarriage? Is my baby okay?"
She instinctively touched her belly.
Ethan said, "The baby is fine now, but you must be careful next time!"
Ashley finally breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing his serious expression, she thought he was blaming her for almost losing the baby. She said, "Don't worry, even if it costs my life, I won't let anything happen to the baby."
Seeing Ethan so anxious, she thought he only cared about the baby and not her well-being.
Thinking this, Ashley felt a bit aggrieved.
She lowered her head, feeling inexplicably down.
Ethan flicked her forehead lightly. "Silly, what are you thinking about!"
Ethan smirked mischievously. "Even if we lose this baby, we're still young. We can try again and have more in the future..."
Besides, the baby was fine now, so why was she so sad?
Seeing her sad and upset made him feel bad, too.
Ashley looked at him in surprise, thinking, 'Is he serious?'
Her heart started pounding, and her mind raced. 'Could it be that Ethan has genuine feelings for me?'
A cough came from the laptop. "Ahem... Mr. Yates, should we end today's meeting here?"
Ethan remembered the meeting was still ongoing. He returned to the laptop and said, "Today's meeting is adjourned for now. The celebration banquet is scheduled for next week."
"Understood, Mr. Yates."
After ending the video call, Ethan came to Ashley's side and asked, "You've been sleeping all day. Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
Ashley instinctively shook her head. "I'm not hungry..."
But the next moment, her stomach growled loudly!
"Don't starve my son. Should I order some food for you? Hmm?"
Ashley pouted, looking a bit sulky.
'Does he care about the baby in her belly or her?'
