Chapter 269 Ethan's Car Accident

"Mr. Yates, you really should've dug into the Jones Group's background. We kicked off with investments, and we've got way more expertise in that area," Doris said, totally ignoring Ethan's icy glare. "Word on the street is the Yates Group is eyeing a second round of collab with investor Josselin. Sure, he's loaded, but if you put all of your eggs into one basket and things go south, the Yates Group's in for a rough ride."

George noticed the clock ticking down and came to fetch Ethan for the Josselin meet. Just as he hit the door, he caught Doris's words. His face twitched, a shadow flickering across it.

"Madam, are you hinting that Josselin might bail halfway?" George asked.

"From what I hear, Josselin's got a rock-solid rep in the biz. Are you questioning his integrity, or just trying to edge the Jones Group into this deal?" he added.

Doris shot back, "Better safe than sorry. If Mr. Yates teams up with the Jones Group, we can haggle the price down more."

Ethan, ice-cold, said, "When it comes to investments, the Yates Group ain't no slouch compared to the Jones Group. I don't have time for this. Diannel, show Ms. Jones the door."

Diannel gestured for Doris to leave. Unfazed, Doris whipped out a document and said, "Mr. Yates, give this a look. It's some info I dug up. Check it out before you decide."

She slapped the document on Ethan's desk.

George eyed the document, deep in thought.

Ethan's eyes were like daggers as he barked, "Get out!"

In the end, Diannel escorted Doris out.

Ethan checked his watch and said, "Time's almost up. George, let's roll."

"Got it," George said, glancing at the black folder on the desk.

When Ashley came out after freshening up, she got a text from Ethan: [I had Diannel set up some clothes for you. I'll swing by at five to take you home.]

Ashley grinned and replied: [Cool.]

Ashley slipped out from a hidden door, picked an outfit she liked from the rack, and as she turned, the clothes in her hand knocked the folder off the table.

"Oh crap, I knocked the folder over," she muttered.

She picked up the folder and put it back on the table.

Her eyes caught the title on the document: [Josselin Investment Project Details]

Ashley remembered that the Yates Group had a land development project and was hustling for the second round of financing. Their partner for this round was supposed to be Josselin.

Bored and curious, Ashley cracked open the document.

From 3 PM onwards, she was glued to it.

Meanwhile, Ethan, George, and Diannel rolled up to the café to meet Josselin.

Josselin was a Maridian. George spotted him and waved.

"Ethan, over there," George pointed. Ethan saw Josselin, whose mug had been plastered all over forums, newspapers, and news sites, so he recognized him right away.

"Josselin, hey, I'm Ethan."

"Mr. Yates, I've heard a lot about you. Please, take a seat."

They shook hands and got down to hashing out the financing details.

Two hours later, they had everything squared away and struck a deal.

"Mr. Yates, looking forward to working together," Josselin said.

"Same here. Our legal team will whip up the contract ASAP," Ethan replied.

They chatted happily and left together.

Josselin said, "I've read a ton of interviews about you. You really are impressive."

Ethan grinned, "You're too kind. If you're up for it, Josselin, let's grab dinner."

"Sure thing," Josselin agreed.

As they talked, they reached the door. Diannel pulled up, and just as the three were about to hop in the car, a massive truck suddenly swerved off course and barreled straight at them!

"Watch out, Mr. Yates, move!"

The truck was out of control, heading right for Ethan. He had no time to dodge. Just as the truck was about to slam into him, someone rushed over and shoved Ethan out of the way!

Ethan hit the ground, scraping his wrist and drawing blood.

With a crash, the truck smashed into the wall and came to a stop.

Someone screamed, "Help, there's someone under the truck!"

Ethan's heart skipped a beat, and he sprinted over.

Everyone pitched in to pull the person out from under the truck. The person was covered in blood and looked seriously hurt.

Ethan's heart pounded. In that split second, he didn't have time to escape, but he saw someone push him away. That person must be her!

The person's hair covered her face. With trembling hands, Ethan brushed her hair aside. When he saw her face, his eyes widened. "Doris?!"

How could it be her?!
