Chapter 567 Disaster
Ashley stared at the indignant young woman, recognizing her after a moment. "Aren't you the nurse from the hospital? What a coincidence!"
Isabella looked at Ashley with surprise. "What are you doing here?"
They had seen each other several times at the hospital but never really spoken. Meeting in this café seemed truly coincidental.
Ashley raised an eyebrow. "Why shouldn't I be here?"
She had just heard Isabella cursing Ethan. Noticing the resume on Isabella's table, Ashley guessed she must have been rejected and was now lashing out in frustration.
Isabella's eyes fell on Ashley's table. "You're applying for the panel position?"
"Yes, I am."
"You're Prince Ethan's girlfriend. One word from him would get you in! Why go through all this trouble?"
Ashley's eyes flashed coldly. "What do you mean, 'Prince Totti'?"
Isabella faltered, looking embarrassed.
Ashley approached her with an intimidating presence, radiating authority as she moved closer. "Who are you really? You're definitely not just a nurse. Have you been investigating us? What's your agenda?"
Isabella, nearly overwhelmed by Ashley's intensity, gathered her courage. "I... I accidentally overheard your conversations at the hospital. Yes, I'm a nurse, but I also want a better position with higher pay, so I applied too! Why are you looking at me like I'm some kind of villain?"
Ashley scrutinized her, her gaze penetrating. Just as Isabella was about to break, Ashley stepped back and said coldly, "I hope that's true. Since you know this secret, keep your mouth shut. If you spread it around, Ethan won't let you off easily."
Though her legs were trembling, Isabella lifted her chin defiantly. "What, afraid people will say you got in through connections? If you don't want people to know, don't do it in the first place. It has nothing to do with whether I talk or not!"
"I didn't use connections!" Ashley snapped. "I followed the same process as everyone else—got a number, submitted my resume online. Out of thousands of applicants, only about a hundred got interview invitations. If I received one, it's because my qualifications met their standards!"
"What? You actually got an interview invitation?" Isabella's eyes reddened with anger. "You definitely got in because of connections! Why lie about it?"
Ashley was furious, but before she could respond, Isabella cut her off. "I'm not in the mood to argue with you. Goodbye!"
With that, Isabella stormed past her and left.
Ashley watched her go, shaking her head. "I was just being friendly because I recognized her. I didn't expect her to be so unreasonable."
Ashley began gathering her things for the interview.
When she returned to her table, she found a server clearing it. Her number ticket and resume had been thrown in the trash.
"Hey! Why are you throwing away my things?"
"I'm sorry, I thought the customer had left, so I cleared the table."
Ashley glared at the server and retrieved her items from the garbage. The resume was now stained with trash residue, and Ashley's chest heaved with anger.
She retorted, "My laptop was still here! I only stepped away for a moment. If I'd come back any later, would you have thrown that away too?"
The server's eyes flickered as she kept her head down without responding.
Seeing the argument, the manager hurried over to apologize. "Miss, I'm so sorry. This server is new. Please accept my apologies for any offense."
Ashley looked at her stained resume and sighed. "Forget it. Just my bad luck."
She brushed off the stains as best she could, paid her bill, and left.
Back in the café, the manager scolded the server. "What were you thinking? The customer hadn't even left yet!"
The server replied defiantly, "I was doing a public service! I overheard their argument. That woman got her interview through connections—it's shameless! I wanted to expose her!"
"You're just a server. Stop causing trouble and get back to work!"
The server reluctantly walked away. She had experienced something similar before and harbored deep resentment toward women who used their bodies to get ahead, projecting that anger onto Ashley.
When the manager was busy elsewhere, the server snuck into the surveillance room and uploaded the video of Ashley and Isabella's argument online with the hashtag #Scandal Erupts: Woman Allegedly Slept Her Way into Job Interview.
