Chapter 340 Do You Hope the Babies Are Boys or Girls?
Doris mentioned she was exhausted, so James decided to hold off on his proposal. The family lingered in the hospital room for a bit longer, and eventually, Autumn stayed behind to take care of Doris while everyone else trickled out.
Ethan held Ashley's hand as they made their way back to the car.
Thinking about Doris's reaction, Ashley asked, "Babe, do you think Mom doesn't want to marry Dad?"
Ethan, focused on the road, replied, "Yeah, but aren't they in love?"
Ashley's eyes lit up as she wondered, "Maybe after being apart for so long, they've moved on? Dad's got plenty of beautiful women around him, and maybe Mom has someone else she likes?"
Ethan thought about it and said, "Could be."
Ashley hesitated before asking, "If that's true, what would you do?"
Ethan shrugged, "They're adults. It's not my place to meddle in their love lives. They need to figure it out themselves."
Even though Ethan was being logical, he still wished the family could come back together.
After all, he didn't want to finally meet his real mom only to have to deal with a stepdad.
As they chatted, they pulled up to the Yates Mansion.
They got out of the car, and Thomas came over to greet them, "Ethan, Ashley, you're finally back. Michael and Katherine have returned and have been waiting for you."
Ethan's face lit up with excitement, "Grandpa and Grandma are back?"
Recently, Katherine had been in the hospital for a long time recovering from a fracture caused by Ava. She was doing better, and Michael had just brought her home.
Ashley said, "Let's head inside."
Ethan nodded, "Yeah, let's go."
Hand in hand, they walked into the hall and saw Michael feeding Katherine some fruit. Katherine turned her head and said, "I can't eat anymore."
Katherine was sitting in a wheelchair, looking pale and weak. When she saw Ethan and Ashley approaching, she said, "Oh, Ethan and Ashley, you're back."
"Grandma," Ashley said sweetly, hugging Katherine and acting all cute, "I missed you so much."
Katherine smiled, "Sweetheart, I thought about you a lot while I was in the hospital."
When Katherine was in the hospital, the couple had visited her, but their busy schedules kept them from going often.
Ethan, feeling a bit guilty, said, "Grandma, why didn't you let me know when you were getting out of the hospital?"
Michael chimed in, "The doctor said your grandma's limbs had recovered, and I decided to bring her home today on a whim, so we didn't notify you."
"Really?" Ethan looked at Katherine's pale face, half-believing, and said, "Grandma, you don't look so great. How about we get you a full check-up?"
Hearing this, Michael and Katherine showed a flicker of emotion on their faces. Katherine, in particular, looked a bit sad.
Michael said, "Ethan, don't worry. Your grandma's fine. She heard about Ashley's pregnancy and was eager to come home to see her. She probably just looks tired because she hasn't rested enough."
Ashley blushed and, leaning against Katherine, held her hand and touched her own belly, "Grandma, they're twins."
"That's wonderful!" Katherine said with joy, touching Ashley's belly, her eyes sparkling, "My poor Ashley, you lost two children before due to an accident. Thank goodness for these two great-grandchildren. We must protect them well and not let anything happen."
Mentioning the previous miscarriages brought a pang of sadness to Ashley and Ethan, and the atmosphere grew heavy.
Michael coughed and said, "Let's not dwell on the past. But seriously, Ashley, how come you're pregnant with twins every time? That's quite a coincidence!"
Ashley, pushing aside her sadness, joked, "Maybe Ethan's family has a twin gene, so I've had twins both times."
Michael laughed, "Nonsense, no one in the Yates family has ever had twins."
Hearing this, Ashley raised an eyebrow, "Maybe I'm just lucky."
Ethan said, "Alright, it's getting late, and Grandma doesn't look well. Let me take you to rest."
Katherine repeatedly urged, "Okay, Ethan, take good care of Ashley. We can't afford any more mishaps with these two children."
Ethan pushed Katherine's wheelchair forward, "Don't worry, Grandma. I won't let anything happen to the children again."
As they spoke, the three of them walked away.
After watching them leave, Ashley looked down at her belly, where the twins were growing. She also found it strange that she had twins both times. Was it just a coincidence?
Ethan returned and saw Ashley sitting on the sofa, lost in thought. He asked, "Honey, what are you thinking about?"
Ashley smiled, "I'm just zoning out."
Ethan bent down and scooped Ashley up in a princess carry. Ashley gasped in surprise, blushing, "What are you doing?"
Ethan said firmly, "You're carrying two babies now. I can't let you walk up those high stairs. I'll carry you to bed."
Ashley blushed, hugging Ethan and burying her face in his chest.
Ashley asked expectantly, "Honey, do you hope the babies are boys or girls?"
