Chapter 241 Envy
Ashley rolled up to the café they agreed on, pulling in just over half an hour. She parked in the garage and was heading to the elevator when she got this weird feeling someone was behind her. She spun around, confused, but it was just rows of cars.
By evening, the garage was dim and creepy quiet. A gust of wind blew in, making this eerie wailing sound like a baby crying, straight out of a horror flick. Ashley shivered and sped up to the elevator.
For some reason, her heart was racing. Just as the elevator doors were about to close, a hand shot out and grabbed the door.
Ashley's eyes narrowed, flashing with a cold, wary look.
Then, a guy walked over.
"Ashley?" the guy called out.
"Nathan, what are you doing here?" Ashley let out a long sigh of relief, dropping her guard.
"Ashley," Sienna stepped out from behind Nathan. "What a coincidence, running into you in the garage."
"Yeah," Ashley glanced at Nathan and then gave Sienna a knowing smile. She linked arms with Sienna and whispered in her ear, "Seems you two have made up?"
Sienna blushed and said, "Let's talk upstairs."
"Okay."
The three of them walked into the elevator one after another.
Unbeknownst to them, a figure silently appeared behind them. Reflected in the rearview mirror of a nearby car was a man wearing a black mask, his eyes sinister and terrifying, like a demon.
At the café
Nathan was ordering coffee at the counter. In a booth, the two women were chatting and laughing. Seeing this, Nathan didn't want to interrupt and sensibly found another place to sit.
"Ashley, didn't you just get back to the States today? Why didn't you get some sleep to adjust to the time difference and instead asked me out for coffee so late?" Sienna asked.
"I missed you," Ashley smiled.
"I missed you too."
The two women hugged each other. Nathan, watching from the side, couldn't help but smile gently at the sight.
Ashley's gaze fell on Sienna's belly.
In the time they hadn't seen each other, Sienna's belly had grown larger and rounder, like she had a watermelon inside.
Ashley, with a hint of envy in her eyes, asked, "Sienna, can I touch your belly?"
"Of course."
Ashley gently stroked Sienna's swollen belly. Through the skin, she seemed to feel the baby moving inside, and she quickly withdrew her hand in surprise.
"Oh my God, he's moving! Did I press too hard and make him uncomfortable?" Ashley was a bit nervous.
"No, don't be so tense." Sienna held her hand and placed it back on her belly. "This little guy is very active, always kicking and punching inside me. It has nothing to do with your touch."
"Is that so?" Ashley recalled her own experience of pregnancy. Back then, her belly hadn't yet shown any movement, and she didn't know what it felt like.
For a moment, Ashley felt a pang of sadness.
Sienna held Ashley's hand, and Ashley gently placed her hand on Sienna's belly, feeling the baby move. It was interesting, her eyes sparkled, and a charming smile appeared on her face.
"Oh my God, he's kicking again!" Ashley shouted.
"Yeah. I had a check-up, it's a boy," Sienna replied.
"That's wonderful," Ashley said happily. "Now Lily will have a little brother. You have both a son and a daughter, you're so lucky."
Ashley was genuinely happy for them, but also a bit envious.
If only she and Ethan could have a son and a daughter...
But alas...
Seeing Ashley's gaze dim as she stared at her belly, Sienna guessed the reason for her low spirits.
Sienna deliberately changed the subject, "By the way, Ashley, Lily was asking about you a few days ago. When do you have time to come over? You're her godmother, after all, you can't forget her."
"Nonsense, how could I forget her? I'll come over tomorrow," Ashley smiled.
"Great, I'll have Nathan pick you up."
Ashley composed herself, glanced at Nathan sitting in the distance, and covered her mouth to laugh, "Look at Nathan, he's totally head over heels for you now I guess you two aren't getting divorced after all!"
Sienna blushed and said, "No, we're not getting divorced anymore."
"That's great." Ashley held Sienna's hand. "I really hope all my friends stay healthy and have happy families."
"Time flies so fast. Ethan and I have been married for a year already! Sienna, did you give Nathan a gift for your first wedding anniversary?" Ashley asked.
